  • Near-fatal gunshot wound cliche in a story?

I know its a cliche, but I'm writing a story in which a character gets shot. Its a single shot from a handgun and a 9mm bullet. The victim, a female, is shot anywhere from point-blank range to close range. She remains conscious for a few minutes and is rushed to the hospital. Recovery can be a lengthy one, that's fine. Can anyone provide where the bullet can hit the victim to make the scene work?

  • Fear of loneliness or of being alone/distant?

This may be a diagnosable disorder, but I can't find anything specific.

So here's the situation: I just returned to a community college. My normal habit has been to isolate myself in studies and classwork. I have diabilities in the social aspect. What I feel now is oddly specific. With my classwork done early, I'm free to sit in the dining area with other students.I sit off to the corner of the room or out of sight. I do this during class, sit all the way in the back. Doing this, I feel invisible and I don't like this feeling. I'm much too shy to meet anyone new and I'm growing very uncomfortable with being unnoticed. What could I do?

  • Would these scenes be inappropriate for Fanfiction.net?

I have two scenes for a fanfiction that I'm not sure if they would be acceptable.

The first scene is of two characters. The first one, a guy, has just came home from years of being away. Dirty, he takes a shower. The other character, his girlfriend, surprises him and steps into the shower with him. The most they do is kiss, but it's not described. The next part is after that; both of them are sitting on the shower floor, letting the water run. They talk about getting married and waiting until their wedding night to have sex.

The second scene is after their wedding. No sex is described; the scene opens with them in bed together. They mention how he didn't use a condom and that she could get pregnant.

Although I won't describe the sexual activity, it is hinted.

  • Which sounds more reasonable in this scenario?

Imagine that a friend of yours was lost in the past. You stumble across his grave. Let's assume that you have a time machine and you could go back in time to rescue your friend. (Let's also assume that there is no date on your friend's grave, forcing you to open his casket for a clue)

Now, which scenario would sound more reasonable?

    A. You find your friend's body as well as a clue as to when he died. You go back in time and save him before he dies.

    B. The casket is empty except for the one clue. You go back in time and save him, explaining the lack of a body in the casket.

    C. The casket has someone else's body in it. It still holds the clue, but someone else dies instead of your friend, taking his place.

  • I don't know what to do. What happens now?

I just came back from the attorney's office for help with my SSI benefits. My mom is saying that because I wanted to talk to him about a video-game, it meant that I purposely threw away our chance at his help. I know that we have a chance at the hearing, but my mom seems to have given up. She's demanded that I find a job by tomorrow while she's looking for a second one.

I feel trapped. She's putting all the blame on me for losing SSI when we haven't even gone through the trial yet.

I don't know what to do. My thoughts keep going to suicide.

  • Pacemakers and Tranquilizers?

I have some proof-of-concept questions regarding pacemakers.

    1. Would a tranquilizer or sedative have any effect on an artificial pacemaker? How severe of an effect?

    2. A person's heart rate increases when they run. It slows when they sleep. Assuming that a pacemaker is hacked* and set to a low heart rate, what would happen if that person tried to run?

*Hacking a pacemaker to alter the setting is possible. (1,000 Ways to Die: #371 Hack Attack/Hacked Off)

  • What do I do? So confused...?

Four of my questions just got reported within 10 minutes. I honestly don't know why that happened. One question was from 2 years ago, I don't remember what I did wrong.

I filed for appeals but I doubt that anyone will respond. I'm tempted to delete my Y!A account and leave it.

  • What is your reaction to this?

"He told me a fantastic love story between a 17th century blacksmith and his wife, the current blacksmith’s daughter. The romance between the two was so strong that each of them made a wedding gift for the other. They both agreed to make necklaces, but they each had the choice of what to make for the other. The young blacksmith gave his wife a gold necklace with a pendant in the shape of a star. He explained that it represents the first time that they met. According to him, she shined with such radiance and light. Her father helped her make a silver necklace with a pendant in the shape of the moon. She explained that the moon was a symbol of guardianship, as the moon was guardian of the night. The edges of the crescent moon represented his arms that held her gently, but firmly whenever she was afraid or sad. He then told me that the blacksmith held on to his wife during their wedding ceremony, promising never to let her go.”

    Give honest feedback, Please.

(Seriously, don't hold back on flames either.)

  • What is this character?

    http://slycooper.wikia.com/wiki/James_Barkley?file...

What animal does this anthromorphic character resemble? The image's source says that he is a badger. Another source says he is an unspecified canine. What do you think?

  • My birthday is July 3rd, and I don't know what I want... Any ideas?

I will be turning 19. I am a guy... I just can't think of anything that I would want. I do want stuff like an Xbox 360 or a new laptop, but that is out of the question. Perhaps something below $50?

  • Citing another research paper?

I found research on a website with a great piece of information that I want to use. Rather than copy it and pass it as my own, I want to give the source the credit that it deserves. However, the information came from an anonymous student. How do I cite this source and not plagiarize it?

  • What does this mean? Does she like me?

I met a girl by the bus stop who took the same bus route as I did that day. I see her twice a week at school, waiting for the bus. We've sat next to eachother, joked around... She even said that meeting like this was something she was used to. Classes end in June and I want to see her after school ends. Maybe take it slow?

  • Does this sound interesting?

Does this opening to my story sound interesting enough that you would want to continue reading?

Life is not fair, is it?

But who am I to complain? My name is Grimm Hund. I am 25 years old, healthy as can be, and alone. I was alone with Miranda in this, otherwise empty; room.

I stand watching her body, silently praying that she’ll move again. I know she won’t though; she’s been pronounced dead for several minutes now. I should not be here. Why can’t I just leave her to rest in peace? Look at me now, at the peak of physical condition, and I was crying but minutes ago for a woman whom I barely met.

I guess it will be some time until the morgue picks up her body… I can spare some time.

After all, I have all the time in the world…

Simply put, I cannot die, yet I can feel every known definition of pain. Is this a curse? Is this a wicked fate? No matter. My fate was written as a symphony of my own torment. My story actually begins sometime in the late 17th century- still not convinced? The earliest that I can remember was 1686. I cannot recall anything before that… Oh, before I continue… I mentioned that I was 25. That’s not technically a lie. I died when I was 25 years of age, so I can’t call the last 300 years as part of my life. If you want to be technical about it, I would be 346 years old. I don’t introduce myself as being that old for two reasons: One, I simply do not look that old. I have the appearance of a youthful adult. Two, I haven’t had much social interaction before I met Miranda. I was silent and dormant, locking myself inside my own house.

I wasn’t always this way. When I was 19, (and still living) my life was fantastic. I live in Salem Village, Massachusetts- although locals now refer it to be named Danvers. (I’ll still call it Salem or Salem Village because it was named Salem Village when I lived there.) The town was small, but functional. Everyone knew each-other. Everyone was busy in their daily lives. I was currently working with the local blacksmith, Mr. Canis. He was a hardworking man, as strong as can be. He was also aging. The man must have been 42 years old when I met him. He had also worked alongside the previous owner of his forge until it was passed on to him.

One late afternoon, Mr. Canis became too exhausted to work. He closed up the shop that day. Usually I don’t leave until the sun has long set past the horizon. This time, I had a few hours to spare. This was a day, regardless of being many years ago, that I will never forget.

  • Can the definition of irony be considered as common knowledge?

Irony is defined as the use of words to portray a meaning opposite to the literal meaning. Also defined as events that occur that are opposite of what is expected.

Would I have to quote this or can it be considered as "common knowledge" and not need to be cited?

I don't want to cite something that doesn't need it.

  • Writing a (fake) death scene?

What would be your reaction to the following:

    1. Your girlfriend has been shot. She is in great need of medical help. You rush her to the ER, where she makes a full and miraculous recovery.

    2. Shot like before, but not fatal. Just a flesh wound. You help her until she gets medical attention.

    3. The entire scene was staged to look like she was dying. In reality, the gun had blanks and she was covered in movie blood.
