Why is Britain called a democracy when it has an unelected upper house?
Isn't it about time Britain became a democracy and scrapped the House of Lords and had an upper house that was elected by the people?
13 AnswersGovernment8 years agoWhat PHYSICALLY (no maths please) stops a spaceship travelling faster than light?
You have a spaceship with loads of fuel and you start the engine and keep it going so that you continuously accelerate through empty space. Then what happens when you get to 186,000 miles per second to stop you continuing the acceleration?
9 AnswersPhysics10 years agoWhen fox hunting was banned, I expected two things to happen. More foxes, fewer rabbits.?
However, it's the other way round. I rarely see a fox these days (they are welcome on my land) and my farm is over run with rabbits. This leads me to conclude that the hunting unmentionables were breeding foxes to hunt, which has now stopped (sort of), and so fewer foxes are at large.
Does anyone have an alternative explanation?
11 AnswersHunting10 years agoShould TV channels have Dogs?
Do you find Dogs annoying? Are they distracting? Don't TV channels realize that Dogs annoy viewers? What do you think?

10 AnswersChemistry1 decade agoWas there more to the Falklands war than just giving the Argies a slap?
The Falklands War gave the British Governement an excuse to build a fortress on the islands, but was there another reason to fortify the Falklands other than to deter any future pathetic attempts to steal our territory?
Could it be that the huge coal and oil deposits in British Antarctica might have been the real reason?
11 AnswersOther - Environment1 decade agoIf the average weight of a sheep fleece is 3Kg, how much does it cost to shear and how much does it sell for?
Wool is the GREEN alternative to man made fibres which are manufactured from NON-GREEN oil by products.
If you get caught in a fire, wool will protect you, because is doesn't melt and stick to your flesh like oil based fibres, in fact wool carbonises and forms a non-inflamable barrier to the flames.
Despite this, wool brings little return for a farmer, but just how little? Next time you buy a carpet and the salesman tells you that the dearest carpets are expensive because they are woven from pure wool, tell him what you have learned from the answers to this question. If you don't know the answer, an educated guess will do!
6 AnswersAgriculture1 decade agoDo you think we should pay a fee to watch TV channels that show adverts?
Adverts on TV are a pain in the butt, and it's getting worse. UK commercial channels are heading in the same direction as the US commercial networks went and that is to halve the time between successive adverts so the further you are into the program, the more frequent the commercials. Why don't we all give up paying for commercial TV for six months and see if things change?

7 AnswersElections1 decade agoWas the pope's refusal to pray for Maddy McCann and only bless her photo was because he knows there's no god?
If the pope is really big G's representative on Earth and in constant contact with him, what would be the harm in asking big G for a special favour, to save an innocent little child?
Do you think that he ducked the request because the odds are that she has come to harm and he knows that there really is no big G in the sky to save her and a mere blessing is safer because it is little more than a "good luck" wish?
After all, if the pope had prayed for her and it turned out that harm has come to her, he could always have ducked responsibility with the old "god moves in mysterious ways" excuse for his god's failing, or some such claptrap couldn't he?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you think the quality and standard of BBC Television programmes has deteriorated over recent years?
Brain Dead TV is insulting to thinking people. What TV program do you think is the biggest insult to your intelligence?
15 AnswersReality Television1 decade agoShould the law be changed so that elected governments must fulfill their manifesto promises and nothing more?
Political parties often do not fulfill the promises they made in their manifestos. Look how long it took the Labour party to get round to banning the brain-dead sport of fox hunting, and they didn't do that properly because it is still going on!
So should they have to keep to their word and if they fail, should they be prevented from participating in the following election?
Should it also be unlawful for them to introduce policies that didn't appear in their manifestos, which we didn't have a chance to vote for or against, unless they hold a referendum?
Voters have not been given the chance to authorise the government to participate in globalisation, or to go to war, or to throw our doors open to massive immigration. Should decisions of that magnitude be decided by referendum?
10 AnswersElections1 decade agoThe recent would be bombers worked in the NHS. Should we have the right to refuse treatment by muslim doctors?
It seems that the evil islamic faith can poison minds right across the spectrum of society, even those who are normally regarded with reverence. This proves that no muslim is to be trusted. If you can't trust a doctor, who can you trust!
The common factor in most terrorist attacks is usually religion and in recent times, it's the islamic faith.
Surely, it must be our right to disassociate ourselves from these evil people by refusing to have any contact with them, especially as the islamic cancer has spread into the higher echelons of public service?
19 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoMore bombs, more alerts. Will Britain every be a safe place to live whilst the door is open to all and sundry?
Why should we have to put up with this mayhem all because of the Labour government's stupid idea that wildly different cultures can live peacefully together. Isn't that why the population of world divided itself into different countries in the first place? Why should we be be forced to live in fear? Why should we give up our freedom because of Bliar's (sic) stupid ambitions. No one voted for this! It's time for a BIG change. It's time our country was restored to the peaceful place it used to be. If the major parties can't restore our peace and freedom, we must look towards the parties, that until now have been in the minority. Other parties have promised to bring the troops home as soon as they are elected and repatriate the immigrants. Check them out. Read their manifestos; you will be enlightened. For the sake of this great country of ours, never vote Labour again!
20 AnswersElections1 decade agoWould it have been better to stay with the British Imperial system of measurement?
Today, we have pints, litres, feet and metres. If you drive, distances are in miles and yards, if you buy furniture it's in millimetres. We have the stupid term of "one pence" and "two pence" instead of "a penny" or "tuppence" and weights measured in grammes.
Notice that commerce chooses to use the smallest measurements hoping the public will believe they are getting a lot for their money.
Kids these days are not so hot at maths. I think they were better at it in the old pounds, shillings and pence days, because they had to think a lot harder when dealing with money.
Ask a car dealer about the petrol consumption of a car and he will give it as say, 30 miles per gallon because it sounds much better than 6 miles per litre.
So is it time to scrap the decimal system and go back to the far more sensible Imperial System?
