  • Dear Atheists...?

    May I ask...

...Since "belief" is a basis for "action" (in that a person will not act on what he does not believe in), then what actions in your everyday life demonstrate that you do not believe in a God?

  • Intelligent Design? Natural Selection?

    intelligence, intelligent

[Origin: 1500–10; < L intelligent- (s. of intelligéns, prp. of intelligere, var. of intellegere to understand, lit., choose between), equiv. to intel- (var. of inter- inter-) + -lig- (comb. form of leg-, s. of legere "to pick up", "choose"; cf. lection) + -ent- -ent]

    inter-

a prefix occurring in loanwords from Latin, where it meant “between,” “among,” “in the midst of,” “mutually,” “reciprocally,” “together,” “during” (intercept; interest); on this model, used in the formation of compound words (intercom; interdepartmental).

    lect(ion)

[Origin: 1530–40; < L léctiōn- (s. of léctiō) a reading, equiv. to léct(us) (ptp. of legere "to choose", "gather", "read"; c. Gk légein to speak) + -iōn- -ion]

Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006

THEREFORE, even "natural selection", which is said to be the "choosing between" this or that form, is, by definition, "INTELLIGENCE".

  • A Question about the "Children of Israel"...?

    Salaam (Peace) to all...

Jews, Christians and Muslims alike have, in their Scriptures, accounts of the sojourn of the "Children of Israel" in Egypt, under "Pharaoh"...and on the whole, all three communities consider these accounts to be historical records.

However, as a former Christian, my question has more to do with the Christian view of the Biblical account of this saga.

The book of Exodus is most widely known for its account of the enslavement and subsequent liberation of the Children of Israel from Egypt, by the Hand of God, Himself.

However, in the book of John, Chapter 8, we read:

    31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin...

  • "Order" without "Intelligence"?

    Salaam (Peace) to all.

From the standpoint of physics, a change in position over time is referred to as "velocity"; and, a change in velocity over time is referred to as "acceleration"; and, a change in "acceleration" over time is referred to as "control".

Control suggests Intelligence, and Control is a prerequisite for Order. Since we can see that we are part of a Supremely Ordered Universe, from the tiniest atom to the largest galaxy, how then can one argue against "Intelligent Design" when all the evidence supports the conclusion that Order cannot exist without INTELLIGENCE?

  • Where Did the Devil Come From?

This is probably the third most important question one could ask, regarding the origins of things...after, "Where did God come from?" and "Where did Self come from?".

If God is the First Being to Exist, then everything that came into existence "after" Him necessarily came "from" Him. If all that exists came from God, then all that exists tells us something of God...about the Nature of God.

If the "devil" exists, what does his existence tell us about God? And what does the "devil's" existence tell us about Self, since Self was created in the Image and Likeness of God? Where did the Devil come "from", and why did God cause or allow "devil" to come forth?

  • Why Do I Believe in God?

When I was a child, my Belief in God was based mainly on "tradition"...or "hearsay". I was never taught or advised to "prove" anything...to myself or anyone else. I was simply told by some elder I that Loved and Trusted, "you just have to believe"...and so I did. But what was the QUALITY of my Belief? Looking back, I can see that my "pre-awakening" belief was little more than "superstition"...which brings me to the core of my answer...

  • What, Exactly, Am I?

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful...the Best Knower.

If I take the position that "whatever I can observe, I am not that", then what, exactly, am I, since I can observe my surroundings, my body and its functions, and even my thoughts? If I am neither of these, what am I?

If it is true that the "I" sees all but itself, then is "self-awareness" possible?
