Speculative school administration job application: should I address it to the headteacher, or just to the scho?
I'm sending out 40 speculative job application letters to local schools this week, but should I address them to the headteachers of the schools, or to the offices in general?
1 AnswerOther - Education1 decade agoOnline data protection help: Should a website publish my name and full postcode?
A start-up independent recruitment company has published my CV online, with my name and full postcode included in the information.
Although my profile on the website is listed as 'protected' I've been able to view my profile and those of others - all with name and full postcode, as well as employment and educational history -without using a password.
I can't help thinking that this leaves me open to identity theft. Is there anything in the data protection act that covers the publishing of name and postcode online?
Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoHospital doctors - particulalrly paediatricians - can you help please?
Okay, I'm writing a story (fiction) and this is preliminary research - I just want some broad pointers.
If a child had been in hospital unconscious for a couple of days (with possible concussion and hypothermia) but cause was unknown, how long after the child had come round would you want to keep him/her in for? Parents are present, no evidence whatsoever of abuse or anything like that.
And if that child, having regained consciousness, then had a panic attack caused by phobia of hospitals, would you attempt to get them discharged quicker because of the stress caused to them by prolonged time in hospital (if the child seemed healthy)?
I know in reality there'd be a lot of red-tape and it would be very complex, but this is a relatively small part of the piece I'm writing and I want it to have a sense of realism but not be too bogged down in fine detail, so any general help would be much appreciated. Thanks,
2 AnswersOther - General Health Care1 decade agoWhy won't Word won't print without wanting to save the document as a .xps file?
I am the primary user of the pc at home and we have Windows XP. Word (2003) works fine when I use it from my log-in area, but whenever anyone else uses their own log-in area they have a problem: If they've written a document - a letter, say - which they don't want to save, Word won't print without asking them to save as an xps document, and then doesn't seem to print anyway.
Is there any way of stopping this?
Sorry that's not very detailed - I'm not very technically minded! Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
3 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoCan you think of any examples of stories within stories?
I don't really want examples of 'Frame stories', (such as Wuthering Heights, The Canterbury Tales etc), more examples of a single short story within a novel, significant to the plot, either told by a character and written as dialogue or presented as a seperate chapter or passage.
Hope I've made that clear ;-P
Thanks in advance for your help.
6 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoCan you claim Jobseeker's allowance while studying for a Master's Degree part-time?
I'm currently on Jobseeker's allowance and have been for a few months, but I'm thinking of going back to uni to do my MA. If I'm still seeking part-time work while I'm studying, can I continue to claim JSA?

3 AnswersFinancial Aid1 decade agoCan you book more than one practical driving test at a time?
I know you have to leave 10 days in between each test, but can you book multiple tests 10 days apart so that if you fail, you don't have to weeks/months in between?
4 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoModernising 1920's house - can you give any advice?
My dad has just inherited a house built in the 1920's. Nothing has been done to modernise it since it was built it seems. The place needs central heating installed (at the moment one room is heated by a portable radiator), rewiring (most of the plug sockets are the old 2 pin sort), new doors and windows, probably some replacing of floorboards, and of course modernising of kitchen and bathroom and re-decorating.
It's such a big job that none of us can see the wood for the trees.
What order should work be done in?
Should any new plumbing be connected up to existing sinks etc until kitchen and bathroom are refurbished? (My dad is staying in the house a few nights a wek so that its not left empty and so needs running water in the kitchen at least).
How much can be done while the house is still "furnished" - there's a lot of stuff there that need's shifting, but can anything be done while there is still stuff in the house, to get things moving and make the place more habitable in the meantime?
I know there's no way you can give very accurate or detailed information, but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It sort of goes "dit dit dit" and gets louder and fades as I run around, as if telling me I'm getting closer to something or going away from it. Any ideas?

7 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoITV's Wuthering Heights: What the **** was that all about?
I can't believe how livid I am. They ripped the heart and soul out of one of the most beautiful books ever written.
The only performance worth watching was Tom Hardy's, but even he didn't get Heathcliff off exactly right.
Cathy and Heathcliff DON'T have sex!
Heathcliff DOESN'T Shoot himself.
Cathy shouldn't be that two-dimensional and insipidly pleasant.
All the best scenes, dialogue and speeches were bastardized and/or cut beyond all recognition.
The characters were all wrong.
Why did they bother?

She's been on You Have Been Watching and Would I LIe To You recently and contributed little in the way of comedy gold either on either occasion.
So why's she there? Who's booking her? If it was Buzzcocks it would be understandable, but general comedy shows??
