26 year old occasional cynic. Love all manner of boring and funky hobbies. Some of my least embarrasing ones include reading, walking, fishing and...erm...crocheting. I have a sweet hubby, 1.5 wonderful kids (working on Mini-Me number 2) and an alright life. Not the greatest, could do with a serious monetary contribution, but hey, keep dreaming! I've only ever won £10 on the lottery and I'm convinced that was a fluke.

  • What does the writing on a military footlocker mean?

I have just purchased an old military footlocker and am trying to date it and get some information on its original owner (told it was WWII era). The only clue is the writing stamped in black which reads:

William H. Hart (I assume the original owner's name)

    LT 0-1588625

    RH - 130 - AAA

Does anyone know what this information means?

    Many thanks in advance!

  • How long does a serviceman need to be in the armed forces before they can get TA?

I'm told it's 90 days active duty before you can get TA, but I am not sure. Would like to know TA info for all military branches, specifically eligibility in terms of time served.

  • What is the health benefits package like for California state government workers?

Would like to apply for a CA state government job, but due to my family circumstances (I am the sole breadwinner in the family with a hubby and two small boys), need a decent health insurance benefits package that doesn't cost the earth!! Does anyone know what percentage they cover for the employee and for the employee's family? If anyone has had first hand experience, some advice would be much appreciated, especially how you like the coverage and if it works for you.

Many thanks for all of your help.

  • How does someone become a tattoo artist?

Just curious, really. It seems like a hard industry to break into. Does it come down to experience rather than any formal qualification? Or is it a combination of both?

Always wondered about it more out of interest rather than wanting to take it up as a career ;-)

    Many thanks...

  • What is a good "dad song" for Father's Day?

Making an MS movie for Father's Day for my husband and stumped as to what music to set it to.

Any good ideas for "dad songs"? Something upbeat - nothing depressing!

  • Why am I so tired?

I am a 27 yo female, 147 lbs - I've been getting progressively more and more tired over the last months, falling asleep at work and at home when at my worst. I've recently had blood tests, but these have come back normal, though blood sugar, cholesterol and TSH are pending.

So what's wrong with me? I'm very active - I ride my bike to work everyday, I run and weightlift 4 nights a week and I take my boys on walks when I get time. I do, however, take my 3 rest nights a week, eat about 2400 calories a day and have a balanced diet. My appetite is largely unchanged and remains good. I have no pain save that from weight training.

I also regularly get freezing cold and my knuckles go purple. My heart rate is <60bpm, but I put this down to exercise. Sleep is unrefreshing, both naps and at night.

I just don't want to be told again by the docs that it's some post-viral thing because surely it would have cleared up months ago!

Very frustrated! Any advice welcome! Cheers!

  • My parents were both Canadians at the time of my birth - am I eligible for Canadian citizenship?

I am 27 years old and my hubby and I are yearning for pastures new! I have a lot of my extended family living in Canada, and would like to move there. My parents were born in Canada, moved to the US before I was born and had me there. They've lived there ever since and were naturalised as US Citizens a few years ago. When I was 13 or 14, my bro and I received certificates commemorating Canadian citizenship that came with a plastic ID card. I still have this, of course, but have never lived in Canada.

Here's where it gets complicated. I am now living in the UK on an indefinite leave visa with my British hubby and two young sons (also British), and, like I said, I wanted to move to Canada with all them in tow. Does my citizenship certificate actually count for anything and could I live and work with my family in Canada on it? I'd contact the high commission myself, but to be honest, I'm sick to death of teleprompts and will only attempt this as a final measure!

    Many thanks!

  • What is a good way to incorporate lean protein into your diet without the calories?

Hi all! I'm a 27 year old "just back to fitness" mom. I do quite a lot of exercise, namely biking to work and back everyday (about 1 hr/day in total), running for 2-3 miles 4 nights a week and weightlifting at home for about 35-40 minutes 3-4 nights a week. I'm trying to get some good muscle tone, but finding it difficult to incorporate lean protein into my diet without the calories (still have about 15 lbs to lose). Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this and approximately how much protein I should be consuming per day (without resorting to supplements if possible)? I don't want to look like Ms Universe, but it would be nice to have a good degree of muscle tone.

    Many thanks in advance!

  • What is a good weightlifting workout routine for me?

I'm 27, female and just lost over 75 lbs (5 st 5 lbs for the UK), going from 234 lbs (16 st 10 lbs) to 159 lbs (11 st 5 lbs) over a year. I'm coming to the end of the weight that I wanted to lose (approx another 20 lbs to go) and wanted to start getting some good muscle tone, but don't want to be buff like a bodybuilder or anything.

Just wanted to see if anyone knows a good routine to follow for a near beginner (have done light weightlifting, but nothing intensive) using dumbbells or basic equipment at home.

I do running 3-4 times a week for 20 mins a pop and ride my bike to work 5 days/wk at 1 hr/day for cardiovascular exercise. Just unsure how to mix my existing exercise plan with a new one for weightlifting, how to figure out rest days, if I need protein supplements, if I need to up my caloric and/or protein intake (I'm at 1300-1400 calories a day before exercise), etc.

Any help would be most appreciated! Some abs work in there would be very good (I've had two kids!!) TY

  • How do I set up a living trust in the UK?

The obvious is to see a solicitor, but is there a way to do this without involving an attorney? The costs are prohibitively expensive. We just want to to know that our sons will be taken care of if, touch wood, anything should happen to my hubby and I.

  • How do I train aggressive tendencies out of my pet rat?

We've just got 2 pet rats and were assured that though one nibbled, he was not vicious. Turns out that he is quite aggressive inc. hissing and biting thru the bars at fingers and when we try to pick him up. When we do pick him up, he turns into a nice rat and will sit with you and let you happily stroke him.

Is there anyway that I can train this tendency out of him? To be honest, I wouldn't have agreed to taking them had I realised that he was like that as I have a toddler in the house. But the previous owner assured me that his nibbling was not vicious. I am happy to take the time to give him the love and handling he has obviously been neglected of, but I fear that I may need to find a new home for the aggressor if training does not help. I do have several years of rat experience, but never one so mean.

BTW, they both are males, the other is a litter mate and he is not aggressive, though timid & def underheld. They do not fight between themselves, just with human fingers!

  • Why doesn't my son talk?

Hello there. My oldest boy is nearly 22 months old and, so far, hasn't spoken more than a garbled word at either myself or his father. We're getting slightly worried as other children around his age seem to be excelling at speech.

It's not as if he's not intelligent - he listens to what you say, will do what you ask him and is incredibly friendly and patient with other children. It's just that he doesn't want to talk! He's said a couple things that sound like "dada" and "bum", but when asked by me and my husband to repeat it, he clams up. Other than that, we put no pressure on him to speak when he obviously doesn't want to. I even caught him saying what I think was "buh bye" and waving to a little girl, but again he wouldn't repeat it to me.

Should we be worried? I know children develop at different rates and all, but it seems like most of them at least start talking by now.

    Any thoughts or advice?

    Many thanks in advance...

  • What is a healthy level of calories for a dieter (moi) to consume on a daily basis?

I started dieting in May shortly after the birth of my son, and have so far lost 50 lbs with another 30 to go to achieve a reasonable weight. I've adopted a pretty healthy programme of eating right and cycling to and from work everyday. So far, it hasn't been bad at all.

I recently saw a programme that stated that for a dieting individual, I should consume no less than 1200 calories per day or I may, in the long term, mess up my metabolism and risk putting the weight back on. Thing is, on calculation, I'm consuming about 1000-1100 calories per day and have had no problem with this. I don't starve myself, I get a balanced diet (ie not just salad and water) and I don't feel hungry between meals.

Should I heed the advice of this television guru and up my caloric intake by what is, essentially, a slice of bread's worth (even if I'm not hungry for it), or just go on as I'm doing? To be doubly sure I am getting the nutrition I need, I take daily multivitamins.

    Many thanks!

  • Does it matter that my fundal height measures 2 weeks ahead?

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and since 24 weeks, my fundal height has consistently measured 2 weeks ahead according to our community midwives.

I understand this can be indicative of a larger baby, but could it also mean me being further along than originally thought? I am, in fact, a heck of a lot smaller than I was with my son (I was blimpo woman by 6 months with him), so I don't really know how to interpret this.

It would be helpful if anyone else had some experience with something similar to this. I don't mind if the baby comes early or late really, but I hate having this level of uncertainty about the due date.

Many thanks in advance for your advice :)

  • Why use radial artery cannulation to draw blood?

I was in hospital with whooping cough when I was pregnant with my first. They took blood from my wrist rather than the vein at my elbow pit. I found this rather strange.

Why would a doctor choose to draw blood from such an odd place when I have perfect veins to draw from (I also had blood taken from the usual elbow pit veins when in hospital)? Surely the blood all comes from the same place?

  • How do you become a midwife in the UK?

I have a 2.1 BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Microbiology, but was thinking about maybe training as a midwife. But I have so many questions:

    How do I get started?

    Who do I contact?

How long would I have to go back to college/uni for?

    What are the costs?

Are there any midwives/nurses out there who can point me in the right direction?

    Many thanks in advance! :)
