What is a healthy Christmas snack for kids?
I know it is a few weeks away, but I like to plan ahead. I am looking for a healthy snack to to my classroom of 4 year old children for the day of their Christmas party(I am a preschool teacher). I do not want to do Christmas cookies. I would like to something that the kids will like and that could a holiday theme, even if it is just green and red. Any suggestions?
3 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoIs it normal to miss a period after emergency surgery?
I have been on the pill for 6 months. I never miss a pill and take my pill at pretty much the same time each morning, usually around 6am but sometimes as late as 9am. I was having a lot of break-through bleeding with the one kind of pill that I was on so my doctor gave me a new prescription and told me to start it as soon as I could since I was basically having a period in the middle of the pill pack. I started the new pill pack when there was one week left of my old pill pack. Two or three weeks into the new pills I spotted for a few days. I not worried because I figured it was my body adjusting to me forcing it into a new cycle. I started the inactive pills on a Sunday (usually I do not start my period until the Monday or Tuesday of the 'inactive' week) and on that Monday I had to have emergency surgery for an aneurysm. That was almost 2 weeks ago. I still have not started. I cannot get out and buy a pregnancy test. I am not real worried because I was so careful about taking my pills at the same time everyday, but I guess I am just looking for some reassurance that I am just late because of the stress of emergency surgery and me worrying about missing work at my new job.
3 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoIs the Who-ville in "Horton Hears a Who" the same Who-ville in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"?
I am watching my little cousins and since it is rainy, chilly weather outside we are inside watching movies. Right now we are watching "Horton Hears a Who" and I got to wondering if the whos in this Whoville would be the same whos from "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"? Does it mean that somewhere in the Horton Whoville lives the Grinch and little Cindy Lou Who?
Has it ever made you wonder if, maybe, just maybe, or universe as we know it could be a speck of dust floating around and there is a big elephant (or other creature) carrying us around?
Sorry, I am a little bored as I have seen this movie many times and I am a little sleep deprived. Strange, silly thoughts come to me when I am sleep deprived.
12 AnswersMovies1 decade agoCan having your car insurance cancelled lower your credit score?
My friend had his car insurance cancelled because his wife had a few wrecks in a few years and then a DUI. They were on the same policy. Last month is when they were told their car insurance would be cancelled. Last month Equifax dropped his credit score 100points (don't know about hers). They only reason he knew about the credit score drop was because his one and only credit card had the limit lowered 75% The only thing he can think of that changed was the car insurance. Could cancelled car insurance affect your credit?
Credit1 decade agoWhy am I so fidgety all the time?
I hate sitting still, actually I hate sitting. When I am out with friends and they are sitting at the bar, I would rather be standing. When I do sit, I am constantly swinging my leg, bouncing my leg, or swiveling in the chair. I cannot sit still unless I make the conscious effort to do so. Even then, it bugs me to sit still and not move at all. It bugs one of my friends because he thinks that I am nervous all the time. I am not nervous. I have never been diagnosed (or even tested for) ADD or ADHD.
I guess I want to know who else is like this and why do you fidget?
3 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoWhy won't my dog eat in the kitchen?
I have asked other questions about my dog. I inherited him from my grandma about a month ago. He is 11 years old. My question this time is about his odd eating habit. I feed him a little bit of canned food mixed with dry food occasionally. When I do this he gobbles his food right up. When I give him dry food and put water on it he will look at it and then look at me, when he realizes I am not going to add canned food, he gobbles down the water/food mix. When he gets dry food only he will leave it most of the day. I feed him 1/3 cup servings 2-3 times a day. The morning serving will still be there at night. This is if I leave the food in the kitchen. If I bring his dish in the living room with me he will eat it all right up. I tried staying in the kitchen, sat in the chair and even on the floor and he still did not eat more than a few pieces of kibble. It did not change anything to have me stay in the kitchen with him. Why won't he eat in the kitchen?
The food dish is in the same place as where my grandma kept it.
8 AnswersDogs1 decade agoI have an 11-year old dog that pees in the house, this is not a new behavior. How can I retrain him?
I inherited my grandmothers dog. She has had him since he was a year or two old. He developed the nasty habit of peeing in the house while she had him. She had times that she could not move well and did not always let him out in time, or did not notice that he needed to go out. I have only had him for a month and am trying to get him house-broke. I let him out every hour or so. The only time he goes longer than an hour without going out is if he is sleeping. I let him out as soon as he wakes up. He still pees in the house though. The other day he was outside for over an hour and within five minutes of me letting him in, he peed! He never acted like he had to go back out. He was laying down then he just got up walked to the other side of the room and lifted his leg.
I know that he basically needs to be retrained, but how do I go about doing this? I have never had to house train a dog on my own.
6 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow effective is the Plan B pill?
My boyfriend and I had sex the other day and the condom broke. I took Plan B less than 12 hours after we had sex. I know that the pill is 89% effective if taken within 72 hours, the Plan B website says it is even more effective if taken within 24 hours. How much more effective is "more effective"?
P.S. I was nervous and took Plan B because I should be ovulating tomorrow. I was a little off on my days or we would not have done anything.
1 AnswerWomen's Health1 decade agoHow do I know if I am depressed or if it is just a temporary funk? (long)?
I have neurofibromatosis. I have had to have two emergency surgeries (and one minor scheduled surgery that was also related to the NF) in the past two and half years because tumors grew and caused major internal bleeding and I almost died both times. I have had doctors tell me they have never seen anything like what happened to me before. These are the experts in my condition. They are not sure why it happened or if it will happen again. I am still dealing with complications from the last surgery that was 7 months ago. I also have at least some pain every day of my life because of the NF. Ever since the surgery in July, I have had days that I feel just ‘crappy’. I feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat.
I know that I should be happy because I have a wonderful and supportive family and group of friends. I should also be happy that I survived the surgeries and that I am able to do all that I am able to do, but I am just not happy.
I don’t want to talk to family or friends about it and put any more burden on them than I already have. I have a new doctor that I have not been to yet. I don’t know if he would be able to do anything for me after meeting me for the first time. I don’t have a lot of money and I have crappy insurance so I am not sure about seeing a mental health professional.
How do you know if you are actually depressed or if it is just a temporary funk that will pass without medication?
2 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoHow do we divide up grandma's estate?
My grandmother passed away last month and left everything to my dad (an only child), my brother and I. My dad is to receive 75% and my brother and I receive 12.5% each. My grandma had a car. My brother and I have no interest in this car. My dad would like to drive it because it gets better gas mileage than his diesel truck. My dad want to put the car in his name so that he can have it insured in his name. Do my brother and I have to do anything to "sign off" on the car or can my dad just get it in his name?
We live in Michigan and nothing in the will was specific, just the 75%, 12.5%, 12.5%
5 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoCan I mix some instant vanilla pudding mix into a angel food cake mix?
I am looking to doctor up a box of angel food cake mix that I have. Can I replace an equal amount of the cake mix with the instant pudding for some flavor? For example remove 1/4 cup of the dry mix and add in 1/4 cup of dry pudding mix?
I don't want the pudding poured over it when it is done. I want the finished cake to be unfrosted and unglazed, but with a little different flavor.
Will this work or will it screw up the mix?
7 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhat is the word used for when two words are spelled the same but sound different?
I know synonyms, antonyms, and homophones, but what is it when to words are spelled the same but sound different? For example, lead (follow the leader) and lead (lead poisoning) or read (present tense) and read (past tense) or wind (blowing air) and wind (coil up a cord).
4 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoCan I leave the house with my wound vac?
Please only answers from those that have dealt with wound vacs.
In about a week and a half I will be getting a wound vac. It will be attatched to my lower/mid-back area. I know that I will have it for a couple months. I know a little about the vac and all. The only thing that I want to know is can I leave the house with it? Is it possible an at least not too much of an inconvienence to leave the house?
I know that I have to have it running all the time and it runs off a battery, but I do not want to be stuck in my house for two months. I want to be able to at least go to one of my friends houses' or at least for a car ride, anything to get out of the house. Of course, this would be if I can get someone to take me anywhere since I doubt I will be able to drive with it coming out of my back and all.
1 AnswerOther - Health1 decade agoCan spermicide be used after sex to prevent pregnancy?
My boyfriend and I hate using condoms and do not really want kids right now. We are really careful using the rhythm method and condoms (when needed), but I was wondering about using spermicide. I wanted to know if it can be inserted after sex to kill the sperm. I have heard that spermicide tastes bad--he likes to perform oral sex on me after sex and before we go again.
3 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoWhat is the horror/suspense book that the lady is obsessed with smiley faces and babies.?
This book starts out with a lady on LSD that is holding a baby and it starts crying. Then she shoves the baby's face into the hot stove and it talks about the smell of melting plastic and then she throws it in the closet with all the other dolls that she hurt in some way. She thinks the dolls are real because she wants a baby so bad. She is also obsessed with the yellow smiley face image. All of this is revealed in the first two pages so there are no spoilers about the book here.
I liked this book because it mentions driving from Detroit to Chicago and seeing a smiley face on a building about half way through her trip. That building is only a few miles from where I live. I was telling a friend about it and she does not believe me. Bragging rights and a house cleaning are riding on me finding this book.
1 AnswerBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhat does it mean when someone is stumping?
Lately I have been hearing about the presidential candidates (and others on their behalf) stumping in some states? It sounds like the same thing as campaigning. What is stumping and how is it different from campaigning?
3 AnswersElections1 decade agoWhat would be a good birth control with no hormones?
I can not take birth control with any type of hormone because the doctors think it may cause a type of tumor I am prone to get to grow. I have never had kids, so I apparently am not a good candidate for an IUD. My boyfriend and I want something reliable to use with condoms. I am too young to get my tubes tied (I think you have to be 30) and I don't necessarily want to go to those extremes yet.
