i need an external hard drive 100GB for class, but is a flash drive an external hard drive?

I have a samsung m370 flip phone. I recently bought a USB cable that said It could be used to transfer photos onto my computer (I have a mac)...however when I plug the usb in the phone only charges, nothing is read on the computer. I can't connect to the internet on my phone b/c i don't have a data plan, and would like to make the usb cable work. What do I need to do for my mac to read the files from my phone using the usb?

My camera requires 2 AA Batteries. Recently I tried to put new batteries inside the holder and the door refuses to close. One battery won't seem to go all the way inside, like there is something in the way. This is stopping me to be able to close the door-therefore my camera can't work. When I look inside the compartments, I see a little screw that is sticking out, it looks as if there used to be a cap around it, but part of it broke off...is that part of the problem?.
