  • Why are so many people on this site SO anti-adoption?

I understand with every situation there are bad and good stories, but it seems like anytime someone shares a good adoption story they get 10 thumbs down.

This question forum won't work to help each other if the second someone says one positive thing it gets a thumbs down. I don't think people should feel suppressed from sharing good experiences.

So what are your true feelings on this? I'm really curious...what bad things have happened to people to make them so angry and anti-adoption?

  • What's a "fomer adoptee"?

I've read this term here. What does it mean exactly?

    I'm an adoptee.

  • I'm baffled. Anyone else?

I don't know if this belongs in Pregnancy/Parenting, but answering a question on this site about an hour ago is what made me confused and curious. I'm also the most comfortable here and feel like I know a lot of you...so here goes:

Someone responded to a question and stated her views against abortion, I probably didn't agree with a lot that she said, but I also respect everyone's opinion on such a sensitive subject; my question has nothing to do with abortion, just telling you how I came up with this question.

Anyway, she was debunking some arguements for the 'exceptions' people make either personally or within the law to justify having one.

So one exception she noted was 'consensual incest,' a term I didn't even know and stated her friend's parents were 1st cousins, in a casual way, like 1st cousins having sex, making babies and being in sexual relationships up was very common and a reason folks site as to why they had an abortion.

I always thought these 1st counsin jokes we very antiquated (like from 200 years ago in newly formed states when everyone had 15 babies and you were related to the whole town, and had no choice but to marry a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd cousin.)

Or worse, I thought it was an elistest and very bad joke those of us in some northern east coast states (and late night talk show hosts) make about rural, southern states and I always felt bad about them.

But, as a true sociologist at heart, I am wondering if I have been living in a bubble and this is really a common thing that happens in parts and I'm not familar with it.

What are your thoughts on this? Weird or very normal? And, I'd be curious as to where you live (by state) just out of pure interest in this, as its so forgein to me. And, I love learning new things.

I hope no one is offended by this, I've just been curious since learning the term "consensual incest." Fascinating to me.

  • SNL: What's your most quoted/favorite Saturday Night Live line ever? ?

Mine is "jane you ignorant sl*t."

When used in the right setting it will always get a laugh and break tensions.
