A Rose By Any Other Name
Hey, whats up ♥
If you've signed a contract to give a month's notice, can you still just say "I quit" and walk out of the job?
In the UK. What are the consequences for quitting and walking out? Do you just lose your pay, or can they take legal action?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoWhat is a good weapon to fight vampires with?
I don't know much about weapons but I don't want to google this stuff too much for obvious reasons.
Other than the obvious stuff (swords, blessed things and things made of silver) what would be most efficient for killing vampires? Hollow point bullets to make it harder to heal? Weapons that are good for doing swift damage?
I'm trying to arm my characters with fresh weapons (we've seen the rest too often) but again, I'm not really a weapons person and I don't know jack about this stuff (I live in the UK).

I like:
The Order of Merciful Aid
The London Knights
The Grey Wardens
2 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoHow are the generators that fuel most major cities fuelled?
People are mentioning moving towards natural energy, but how are generators currently fuelled? They must be consuming a crapload of... something. But I don't know what it is. Is it oil? And if it is, what kind?
1 AnswerOther - Environment7 years agoWhat are some magical names for families and estates?
A good example would be something like Marr (from Melissa Marr) or Spiderwick... things that are a bit fae or otherworldly but definitely old and English. Anyone got any? They're for a story but all of my ideas sound really bland.
1 AnswerBooks & Authors7 years agoCan steam see programs that aren't open?
I doubt it can, but just wondering. I had a few downloaded games on my PC but I've deleted them. I've actually got a job now so I'm looking to start buying legitimate stuff through Steam. There's one I'm not sure I want to delete, though, since it'll be so much hassle to get the game and all its expansion packs again. Will Steam notice it if I don't open it while Steam is up?
2 AnswersVideo & Online Games7 years agoWhat's it like working full time? How long does it take to get used to it?
I haven't started yet but I've finished university. It's tough to wrap my head around the idea of waking up every day and going to work to do the same damn thing FOREVER. That whatever job you wind up at, barring promotions, is what you'll be doing for the REST OF YOUR LIFE.
So I want to hear it straight. What's it like working full time? How long does it take to get used to it? I know people need money, but isn't it tough to give up so much freedom?
2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment7 years agoDo you like chocolate ice cream?
I don't. Well it's okay but I don't like it very much. What about you?
7 AnswersOther - Food & Drink7 years agoIs there a word for mythological beings?
I'm thinking of things like selkies and mermaids. I'd really like to know if there's a word for them. I don't like the term "mythological being" and I'd rather not call them monsters, sprites or spirits in my story.

1 AnswerBooks & Authors7 years agoCan anyone suggest some Harry Potter rewrite fanfiction?
I know some people rewrote the Harry Potter series the way they wished it had panned out. Does anyone know of any fanfics like this? Preferably completed novel-length rewrites.
I stumbled across a forum conversation from a few years back where people were kinda vague about it but it made me want to check it out. I'm not a massive HP fan, but that's because I'm not into the kind of drama it was about (wasn't really epic or action packed enough for the kind of fantasy I like).
On the other hand I do like the world and would like to see what other people have managed to do with it :)
3 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoHow real do your novel's characters need to be?
People state that real characters are something a novel needs to be good, but how real exactly do they have to be? Right now my characters are leaning more towards Friends (the show) than John Green's characters or characters out of classics. It makes me feel a bit self-conscious, especially as I'm writing an action story. There are dark moments, but mostly my characters are humorous with plenty of funny exchanges.
I'm not looking for coddling or anything, I'd just like to know how real your characters can be and still remain "novel worthy" material.
4 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoHow do I change my IP for an MMO?
To cut a long story short, I want to get some gold from a website without the risk of losing my account.
The plan is to make an alt using a brand new IP address, and then log onto the game with this IP and purchase some gold (and have it sent to my alt). Then I'm going to let it sit for a week. If the ban-hammer doesn't fall, I'll assume it's safe and buy the items I want, then send them to my main. If I DO get bammered then at least I still have my account.
Just for the record, I DO support the games I play. I spend a lot of money on the game. I just don't have the time to I used to... I can't play to get to where I want to be and the server I'm on doesn't (currently) have any viable cash-shop-to-gold items I can buy... so until future updates this is the only way for me to keep my "place". I'll still be buying cash costumes and cash items like I always have.
Anyway, I've heard of people changing their IPs to get around country bans, so how do I alter my sign-up/game log-in IP?
3 AnswersOther - Computers8 years agoHow and where do fanwriters get famous?
There are lots of famous fanfiction writers, but how do they get famous? WHO are they famous who? I have no idea where everyone talks about them and how you can keep track of them. I only find out about them occasionally (i.e. Cassandra Clare) when something major happens. So how can I keep track of it all and learn who's big/where everything's going on?
4 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoHow do you reveal who/where exactly your MC is and what they're up to when you open a new story?
When you've just begun a story and the reader knows nothing about where it's set or who the narrator is, how do you open it and reveal who the main character is, what they're up to and where they are?
4 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoHow can I get my USB devices to stop randomly being unresponsive?
I don't know what to do, and it's getting really annoying :/
I'm on a Windows 7 laptop and I use a USB mouse and keyboard because my normal keyboard's screwed up and I'm not in a position to send my laptop off (need it for work for a while longer, and don't have any alternatives). Lately my mouse and keyboard randomly stopped working though. I've tried going to Device Manager and uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, but no dice. I've also tried unchecking the power control, but that doesn't seem to work either.
The computer recognizes my mouse and keyboard and acts as if they're they're. Windows also makes all the right sounds when I plug them in/unplug them, and they even show up when I check the properties of the USB ports I've attached them to... so why do they randomly stop working!? I can see the light on my mouse but it's not doing anything when I move it, and my keyboard's light flashes when I plug it in but then it does NOTHING.
The reliable way to get them up and running is to restart my laptop, but you can probably guess how badly this SUCKS when you're in a party and you're halfway through a raid/dungeon in an MMO :/
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoA question for fans of fantasy quests?
How much time do you expect the characters to spend in human-inhabited locations? And does it bug you if the characters spend most of the story out and about travelling through dangerous settings, or is that what you want?
I'd love to hear how people feel about this stuff :) I know everyone likes to see interesting characters so I'm not sure how much people-time vs adventuring a story needs to keep y'all happy :)
