In fantasy stories, what does "old magic" make you think of?

Ancient scrolls, books, or even stone tablets describing rituals and magic that has long been forgotten. Something powerful and dangerous if misused. At the risk of sounding like a nerd, it kind of reminds me of the Dalish elves in the Dragon Age games. People who were driven from their homeland and lost much of their culture and history and magic in the process.

Old magic must be archaic and missing modern discovery, kind of like outdated medicine and technology. It is probably crude, and its results hard to apply to modern times.

New magic would be pertaining to things like technology or new fads in the magic system.

Old magic was probably the more popular spells used in ancient times.

In Celtic myth, the ancient magic seemed to be the oldest, purest form of magic, whether good or evil. It was sometimes called deep magic.

Some kind of magic (usually dark) that has been forgotten by the general populace of magic users over time.
