  • How many cubic inches do I need to reliably generate 300 HP in a V-12 engine? ?

How many cubic inches do I need to generate 300 HP - (RELIABLY!)                              I want to build a V-12 engine for a boat. I need 300 HP. How many cubic inches do I need to design for?

I am NOT interested in a screaming supercharged engine. I want an engine that will run RELIABLY, at moderate speeds. NO TURBOCHARGER!NO SUPERCHARGER!

NO NITRO BOOST OR OTHER IDIOCY!

I am NOT looking for a Rolls-Royce Merlin or Daimler Benz 605 engine, that needs overhauling every second day that you use it. I am NOT looking for a Allison V1650 that has to be turned over by hand once every 24 hours to avoid cylinder damage.

I basically want a V-12 that is like a normal V-8. Reliable and a good runner.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!. .

  • Dimensions on rail lamps on Stirling Single Locomotive?

Hi, rail fan from Tucson Arizona in the U.S. here. I'm working on a 7 1/2" gauge model of the Stirling Single, and I have photos of the lamps that she carried. (One on the front right buffer beam, and one on the base of the chimney) However, I have no dimensions for them, and the plan set I have does not show any details about them. Would anyone happen to have any dimensions for these lamps?

I have photos that I can then scale into drawings, if I can just get the basic length, width, and height.

A friend of mine just went to the Rail Museum in York, and found she had been moved somewhere else, so he could not get any dimensions (which was one of the plans while he was over there.)

Also, does anyone know where this locomotive got moved to? I would like to travel over there, but I would hate to show up at a place that the Stirling #1 is missing from.

    Thanks!

  • Yank has question for UK Rail history buffs?

I was wondering if anyone knows the current museum location of the old Liverpool and Manchester Railway 0-4-2 named "LION", which appeared in the movie "Titfield Thunderbolt" in the 1950's. The movie was about a small English town that took a locomotive out of their local museum to operate on their local train route. I understand it is owned by a preservation group, but I can't find any info on it. I have the set of MAP plans drawn by LBSC, but I am converting them to 71/2"

gauge. I need some photoes of the wheels. LBSC just drew them as round circles and didn't fill in any details. The plans are for 5" gauge, so there is no sense in my buying the castings, as they are too small for my project. Everything else is pretty well detailed out, but the wheels need to be as close as possible to the real thing. It needs the correct ones to complete it's character. Thanks to whoever has a suggestion!

  • C.H. Lightoller, an officer on the "Titanic" had a cabin cruiser called "Sundowner"? Where is it now?

He used it during the 30's and 40's, and in fact took it over to Dunkirk during the early part of WWII and picked up British troops as part of the evacuation fleet. Does anyone know if it still exists, or who owns it now? Hopefully a UK yachtsman will answer and have some info. I'm in Tucson, Arizona across the pond, so no info here. Thanks!
