Lost a gift given to me, I feel awful.?
My very best guy friend left for college yesterday, and he gave me a ring that he said he'd had since freshman year, that he got in Santa Fe with his mom. He said it was important to him and he wanted me to have it. I was over the moon, like, so happy to have something to have something like that with me every day that meant something to him. Anyways, yesterday I went rafting and in the cold water the ring must've loosened and slipped off. I searched a raging river for hours, obviously didn't find it, and I definitely cried for a while, haha I was really upset. I know it was a total accident, but I still feel like such a crappy person. And how could I tell him that I lost the ring he's has since freshman year? He just started wearing it like 2 months ago, but still, he gave it to me. I just feel like a terrible human being..how to I go about getting over this?? And besides draining a river I doubt I'm going to get the ring back :( I just don't know what to do.
1 AnswerFriends10 years agoWhere can I make a customized ring? (not for a wedding)?
I was just given a ring by my best best guy friend right before he went off to college, and yesterday I was rafting and it slipped off (cold water must've made it easier to slide off...anyways, I spent hours searching hopelessly but obviously I didn't find it. I'm just wondering if there is a place that does custom rings that aren't for championships or weddings? It was a simple silver band with a gecko engraved on the front. Is there any place that makes/engraved custom rings like that? PLEASE HELP
1 AnswerOther - US Local Businesses10 years agoUSD (University of San Diego) waitlist?
I got a letter today saying that I was waitlisted at USD. It is my number one school and I had full intent to accept contingent on getting in, but now that I have been waitlisted I am wondering if there is anything I can do to increase my chances? I know that private universities are first and foremost businesses, they are there to make money, and that means they want to offer admission to students who will accept their offer for admission. I am hoping that there is some path that I can take to increase my chances of getting accepted, please let me know what I can do!
Anyone who has any ideas about this please answer, or have been waitlisted and accepted into USD. Thank you.

4 AnswersHair1 decade agoEditing an honors English paragraph? please help!?
I really need to get feedback on this paragraph. Please "edit" it in a way that an honors English teacher would if that is possible. It is in response to the prompt/assignment below:
Assignment:Pretending that you are an amalgamation of Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson, write a response to the following excerpt. (she said that we didnt HAVE to write it like we were them) Incorporate as much relevant evidence as you can to prove that you understood the scope of their writings.
---I was just reading an article about a girl who wants to wear a tuxedo to her prom. The school said, "absolutely not". I'm liberal in MOST situations but I think the school was right in telling her she couldn't wear a tuxedo to the prom. Then it made me wonder about something.
Shouldn't conformity be forced in some situations?
Imean...what's to stop her from wearing a diaper to the prom? Or a suit of armor to the prom? Then that would lead to other stances on established norms. She might find it in herself to wear a clown suit to a funeral. Or a grim reapers outfit to a wedding.
Again, i'm liberal enough but IMO (in my opinion) some situations need conformity. I think the prom is one of them. So are funerals, weddings, and jobs. Any other time is probably alright in most cases.
Here is my response...
Conformity in society takes shapes in many different ways. The specific situation of whether “society” finds it appropriate for a teenage girl to wear a tuxedo to prom, is one of the examples of this way of thought. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “to be great is to be misunderstood”, meaning that normally society is blinded by their “norms” and cannot see the true meaning of an individual idea. This shows perfectly the unnecessary pressure society puts on the individual, where individual thought and actions are suppressed and misunderstood as “inappropriate”. Society does not have the right to forbid the individual from “hear[ing] a different drummer”, and living life in a way which others may not. The traditional pull of society, the “deep [ ] ruts of tradition and conformity”, in this case in the form of a specific type of female clothing, pushes people away from growing into their own person. The refusal of those in power for a student to express herself through choice of clothing exemplifies that those with control, or the majority, feel the right to look down upon the individual spirit. (Is that sentence awkward? I don’t know how to change it). It is an individual right, in any way a person chooses, to express their style of life freely and unopposed, so they many “accept the[ir] place..for [themselves].
PLEASE feel free to make corrections/edit. I really need an "A" on this.

10 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoShould I do IB or AP? Please help I am so confused...?
I am in 9th grade and this year my school got the IB curriculum. It is really new to our school and they don't even know what courses are for sure going to be available to us so it makes it really hard to decide. I have done a bunch of research and I can't seem to find real answers. I am technically signed up for the IB program but it doesn't start until junior year so I'm trying to decide now because I realized my schedule for next year will be different if I decide on IB or AP. This is just so confusing, I tried talking to my counselor but she didn't really answer my questions. I want to go to a really good college (preferably Ivy League) and I don't know what to do. Some people say IB is a waste of time and that colleges don't look at it any differently than AP and others say it is a great program which helps when applying to highly selective schools...I have A+'s in all my classes except math, which I have a B in (it's sort of my Achilles heel) So should i take IB or AP? Thanks
2 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education1 decade agoCosta Rican desserts?
I have to do a culture project on Costa Rica and I need to bring in a food. I want to bring a dessert that will be easy enough to bring in (i don't want to have to serve it warm or really cold or anything if I can help it)...a couple desserts people told me about are queque seco and torta chilena but I want something thats really authentic and commonly eaten by the Costa Rican people
7 AnswersCosta Rica1 decade agoreally confused...help!?
I'm a freshman in high school and i usually get A's in all my classes. I've never gotten below a B in anything but for some reason math is extremely hard for me. I was given the option to take Integrated 1 or 2 and I chose 2 but I feel like I'm struggling. As of right now I have a C- in the class, and if i don't do well on the midterm I will have a D which means my GPA will be a 3.0... So will my GPA and midterm scores hurt me in the long run...like when i'm applying to college?
3 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education1 decade agomy dog wont let me put medicine in her ears...help!?
i have a 1 yr old shih tzu and she has been very friendly. She shows no signs of hostility and is super playful and happy. Even our groomer said that she was a "delight" when she groomed her. However, about 2 months back the groomer said she was hostile and when they tried rinsing her ears she would snarl, growl and bite. This was the first time we heard of this behavior and took her to the vet. She had an ear infection and we needed to medicate her for about 20 days. Whenever we tried she's been the way the groomer said she was and although we've managed we really need to rinse her ears so she can shake out all the stuff in her ears. Tonight we even gave her part of a mild sedative which the vet said would work and when I tried she bit at me. This is really a problem, how can she get her ears cleaned at the groomers if she bites and growls when we go near them with the rinse? shes only bad when she sees the medicine but how can I fix this?

3 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education1 decade agoindependent study in high school?
I go to a public high school and this upcoming september-october I am going to Europe with my family. This trip is very important to me because we have had a really tough life and never had a family vacation, and a family friend is allowing us to stay in her villa in Italy but only for those days so this opportunity may never come again. However, I would be gone for about a month and I don't know how this would affect my studies. I 'm a very serious student so I make it a point to do homework and class assignments but would it be possible to do some sort of independent study for this time? I don't know if I will ever be able to do this again so I really don't want to pass it up. could this be possible?
3 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education1 decade agogetting my puppy to tell me when she needs to go potty??help!?
ok so I have a 8 1/2 month old shih tzu and I can seem to get her FULLY potty trained. We got her in june and she seemed to pick up the concept pretty quickly since we have two other adult dogs that are already potty trained and for weeks we saw no going in the house and she'd go outside to go potty so we thought everything was fine. Then we started smelling pee and i realized that she had been going in the house. so i tried potty training her again and still, shes going inside. she seems to understand that when shes outside and needs to go, she goes there but she doesn't get that she needs to always go outside. Recently i've been trying to get her to scratch the door before i let her out so she associates that with going outside to potty but it doesnt seem to be working. please help!
