I am working on my Ph.D. in Evolutionary Paleontology, and have my bachelors in Geology. I'm hoping to teach at the university level some day. I am particularly interested in arms race systems and co-evolution/escalation, though all geology is interesting to me.
Looking for a good commuter bike?
My car engine bit it, and I am looking for a decent commuter bike for under $400 to get to and from work. I have a slightly hilly, short ride (a few miles each way), and also have in the past with my old bike (a Gary Fisher hybrid) enjoyed peddling around on short rides (~10 miles, I'm a lazy cycler) on weekends. Any suggestions? Price is important since I'm going to be paying a LOT to get my car going again :(
I'm also very tall-6', 34" inseam.
7 AnswersCycling9 years agoWhat camera feature allows you to take photos every minute for hours? I need to photograph an experiment.?
I am hoping to take pictures every minute over probably a 24 hour period, maybe more like 6 to 12, and have seen cameras that take pictures every minute or so but cannot remember what the feature that does this is called.
1 AnswerPhotography1 decade agoCan anyone recommend a camera that takes good close-up shots of 3D objects to do geometric morphometrics with?
I'm a paleontologist, and will be taking a lot of close-up images of shells that I need to be high-quality and non-distorted. I've heard most digital cameras cause some distortion, I currently have a Nikon Coolpix and the auto-focus doesn't work well for gastropod shells.
I'm hoping to hit up the sales on Black Friday, and get a camera that will take non-blurry relatively close up non-distorted shots--any suggestions?
Thanks!
4 AnswersCameras1 decade agoWhat is the meaning of the 5 point tin star?
5 point tin stars are very popular as home decor where I live in Western New York. I recently purchased one and was told the five points have different meanings- I think hope, love, and prosperity were three of them. Anyone know the other two or alternative meanings?
Thanks!
1 AnswerOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoHow can I convince my parents to let me live with my boyfriend?
I am financially independent and have recently started graduate school; he plans on moving to the area next year to look for work before going to a nearby grad school and we want to live together. We have been dating for two and a half years and are in a happily committed relationship; we're both 22.
Money-wise, we can both afford this.
However, I really want my parent's approval on this and am not sure what they are going to think of my proposal. How can I bring up this topic, and get their approval?
