It's just lil' ol' me. I enjoy this format for many reasons; I get to give out advice, ask interesting questions, and in general see if there is any other intelligent life in the Yahooniverse. I also prefer this to chat; it can still be addictive, but it's easier to find more substantive topics here. Toodleloo.

  • I made a big goof creating my Wordpress blog and don't know how to fix it?

Let me start by saying I'm a novice here.

Ok, I have a domain. Let's call it http://website.com/ (this is not the real website in question, and I know this links to a website. I apologize. I am just trying to find a generic "example" name and anyone I come up with is going to be a real website because everybody buys every simple name imaginable).

My intention was to start a blog. The particular tutorial I followed instructed me to place it under http://website.com/blog.

Ok, great. Except now, http://website.com/ is a blank page. And if you're reading this with any interest, you probably already know I can't get http://website.com/ to point to http://website.com/blog.

I am at the point where I do want to start using http://website.com/ as an active page, but http://website.com/blog is what my Wordpress blog was loaded under. Meaning, http://website.com/blog is acting as the root that I must build the site off of, when I actually want http://website.com/ to be the root and all the entries I've created for the blog to be a page off of the root site, not the root itself.

I assume this will require me backing up all my files and starting over, in a sense, but there has to be a way to do it where, at the end of the process, I can put all my prior content back up under the directory http://website.com/blog.

I also know that I can't be the first person to have this problem, but darned if I can find a place or person willing to show me a step by step process for correcting this situation. I am too invested in my blog to just start over, but I need to take the next step on the website.

If somebody can tell me how to do this or show me where a step by step process for doing this has been posted, that would answer my question.

  • Where can I find the music to the Ice Skating Pair performances?

I am a film score fan and it seems at least some of what is being used comes from that medium. I have loved everything I've heard so far and want to know where I can go to find out what music is being used. The networks used to be good at letting you know what the music was, but not anymore.

  • My father died...what happens to marriage?

I am just wondering if anyone has dealt with losing their first parent and had shockwaves in their marriages afterwards.

I'm still a little numb and walking outside of reality right now, and I find myself asking "what now" in a lot of areas. I also suddenly feel like I have to get my "house" in order, and that would definitely mean some lifestyle changes between my spouse and I.

I also find myself looking back at my dad's life and seeing what he accomplished and what he wished he had done and wondering if that's going to be me someday, and what do I need to do differently to avoid that in my life.

My head is just swimming right now and I need to hear from people who have been there and tell me if what I'm doing is normal and if there were marital struggles following the death of a parent.

  • I want to do something with my Outlook Contacts, but afraid?

I have a ton of Outlook Contacts that I'd love to put into an Excel spreadsheet. Supposedly I can "export" them, but at the last step it says "this action cannot be undone", which makes me think if I do this, they will be emptied from my Contacts folder. What I really want is to copy them into an Excel Spreadsheet, and that's it. Does anyone know how that's done? I tried going to the Microsoft website tutorials, but it is not very helpful.

  • Searching the web for content the easy way...does this exist?

I know I'm a caveman, but I'm just now getting into the world of RSS...I'm using Snarfer, but what I really want to do is find a program where I can plug in certain search terms and find articles related to those terms, not just pull down any article from a particular site. I thought maybe a web crawler was what I needed, but that doesn't sound right either. Sometimes, it's all about using the right terminology. Essentially, I want to create automated recurring searches using particular keywords. Does that exist, what's it called, and where do I go to find the tool to do it?

  • GRRRR! Need help with an Excel question? This is weird...?

I was working in an Excel '02 spreadsheet and it just flipped out for no reason. Now, if I try to double-click a cel, it treats it like I'm trying to highlight a group of cels in the workbook, and I can't turn it off! All I can do is go to task manager and end the process. I can still navigate with my keypad, but one double-clikc in a cel and it's all over.

I've even gone into my options screen and played with the checkmark where it talks about editing directly in the cel vs. editing in the formula bar.

I just want my old excel back! Help!

  • Are the Boston Celtics tanking for the ping-pong ball?

I'm a Memphis fan...we've been legitimately bad and have had good reasons for our awfulness, but it seems like the Celtics are just manipulating their lineup to lose now. Every report I hear says that Pierce is dying to get back in the lineup, but the Celtics are "remaining cautious". Plus, they aren't making any moves to try and improve this season. Aren't they close to an NBA-record in consecutive losses? I mean, surely this is a tank-job worth Stern's ire and sanctions. The Grizzlies got shafted last year by the wierd playoff seeding, where the Clips were rewarded for tanking with a better first-round matchup, and now they're about to get shafted again by the shameless Boston Celtics (I hope they get the 4th pick). I'd love to hear anybody's thoughts on the entire situation.

  • Ever notice how all the celebries who ask questions here?

Seem to be asking questions that make them all pitch-men for the UN?

"How do we help UNICEF?" "How do we end world hunger?" "How do we make sure there are no more sick kids in the world?" "How do we eliminate world poverty?"

Even if you're a far-left liberal and are all about talking about these things ad infinitum, doesn't this one-track questioning get a little old? Doesn't it seem a little too heavy-handed? We should be all about helping our fellow man, but c'mon....

(And yes, this is a question...)

  • What impact will Eddie Jones have on the Heat?

While not an impact signee, he does make for another veteran that can be turned to for a handful of quality minutes. With all their injuries, will he add enough to help keep the ship from sinking further until Shaq and Wade are 100%?

  • Can someone please explain this to me regarding affairs?

I'm seeing question after question from "the other woman" where once the affair has ended, they think they "owe it" to the wife to tell them. Are these people just itching to complete the homewrecking job they began with the affair, or what?

  • Why not a Pau Gasol for Jermaine O'Neal swap straight up?

They're both disgruntled and would like a change of pace, they're both low block players (although their games are a little different), the salaries would be close to the same, and I think they'd bring a fresh fire to each team they wound up with. Makes too much sense so it will probably never happen. What do you think? (I'm a Grizz fan, so if you have alternate thoughts, I'd like to hear them regarding Gasol and not O'Neal.

  • How do people really benefit from relationship advice here?

I mean, are people really doing what others say, or does it just feel good to garner sympathy or blow off some anonymous steam? Have you derived any benefit from a question you've asked about your relationship, or a question/answer you've seen?

  • Domain name registration?

I need help. I'm looking to register a domain name, and there's so many people doing it these days....can anyone give me some solid pointers here or guide me to an online resource to answer my questions? This would be for a business I'm interested in starting....it is a membership/networking/informat... driven business (NOT an MLM), basically I'd provide some info for free but offer a membership with special additional perks and $ saving opportunities at venues my members would be highly interested in.

I'm looking to have my questions answered prior to committing to any one provider...everyone's promising help, but I'm not sure what I really need. Anyone who's traveled this path before me, I'd appreciate any info/advice you have.

  • Are printer cables universal?

I have a friend who was kind enough to give me an extra printer of his, but it's missing the printer cable. Are they pretty much "one size fits all"? And how much can I expect to pay for one new?

BTW, the printer is a Lexmark Jetprinter, if that makes a difference.

  • Love advice from works of fiction?

This is aimed at both sexes (but obviously I can learn more personally from the ladies):

If you could pick one novel that shows how a person could sweep somebody off their feet, which one would you recommend and what could I expect to learn?

  • What situation would mean "automatic" divorce for you?

And if you're going to say cheating or abuse, at least give a unique spin on why, or get a little more descriptive (ex: cheating with a sibling, or in your own bed, etc). 10 points goes to the most creative, personal answer.

  • Regarding your best past relationship? Any regrets now?

I was wondering, for those of you who have settled down, is there a past relationship that still haunts you, and why? It can be one you wish you had done better, differently, feel you still don't have closure with, or wish you had maintained instead of where you're at now.
