Just me. Not doin much

  • Can I just buy a motorcyle and ride legally on my license? UK?

I passed my car license in 1992, I was one of the last to recieve a paper license. It had entitlement to operate category A on it, which is motorcylcle. I sent off for a card license later and saw that category A had been removed.

Now though, I have just checked my license on the DVLA check and share website and I see that I once again have category A entitlement. I've never had a lesson or passed a test on a bike, in fact all I've ever done is ramp around my mates farm on a 50cc years ago.

Is this some grandfather rights from my old paper license? Can I legally just hop on a Suzuki TL1000 and hurtle myself into oblivion?

  • Is my old graphics card better than the chipset on the new motherboard?

Just had to replace the motherboard on my computer, I picked the GIGABYTE 78LMT-USB3. It's got on board ATI Radeon 3000 graphics.

My old graphics card is a NVIDIA Geforce GT220. I think that they're quite similar in performance, but I don't know if it's worth installing it and messing about with drivers if it's not going to be any better.

  • Children Have taken over for the night.?

Just got back from hard week at work, ready for a chilled out couple of hours on Skyrim, only to find my two teenagers plus one boyfriend occupying the big screen with some 4 hour long toss film about blue people in space.

My question is this, how do I dislodge the invaders from my habitat without causing too much permenant damage?

  • Daughter wants to bleach hair, advice please, I know nothing.?

My daughter has hair that is medium blonde coloured, light blonde in the summer. She has been dyeing it for some time now, a brown colour, and sometimes a purple tinge or something similar.

She has now announced that she wants to go back to her natural colour, or one quite close, in time for the new school term which is in 2 weeks.

She tried to do this once before, she bought a colour stripper (??) This made her hair go sort of Haley Williams orange, she then put a very light brown in and it just went dark again.

So what's the proper way to do it? are there any products that you recommend?

Is there a difference between a colour stripper and a bleach product?

Left alone to it, she will just end up brown again probably, so I've said I'd help out, but haven't really got a clue and I reckon hair dressers will charge at least £100 for what needs to be done.

  • Just bought some kitchen knives, was it too good to be true?

I saw a set of 7 knives, cleaver, salmon, bread, carving, chef, boning and paring knives, with a meat fork and sharpening steel. The sign said it was reduced from 500 pounds to 35 pounds. After a lot of doubt, I thought that it worked out to less than 4 pounds per item and bought them, the lady in the shop said it was because it was bankrupt stock.

On reading the leaflet, I guessed it would be because you don't get any of the customer care follow up if they've gone bust.

So does anyone know for sure that I've been ripped off or are they a bit of a bargain.

The set have the name WALTMANN und Sohn written on every blade. I don't even know if this a good name, and if it is, I couldn't see if they were copies.

  • AM3/AM2+ conundrums. (build)?

I have recently been doing a build. I bought a mother board new, I thought it was AM3 socket, now it seems, after reading the smaller print, that it is AM2+ socket saying it's AM3 CPU ready.

I then bought a CPU, I thought I'd splash out a little and went for an Athlon II Quad core 640. 3.0 ghz 2.0 mb cache for around 80 pounds.

After putting the thing together, I started it up but there was no signal coming out of the back. I checked all my connections but no joy.

Does anyone know of a quick way to check and see if this board has support for this chip specifically?

The board is an ASUS ASROCK N68C-S.

I hope this is the problem else it means something isn't working.

  • New build not working.?

    Hello,

I've inherited a case, bought a new motherboard and cpu, cannibalised a dvd drive and hard drive and graphics card and RAM. I've plugged it all in and fixed it together. On firing up, all the fans and lights work, including dvd drive and Hard drive, but can't seem to get any power out of the 1/0 panel at the back. Moniter won't spark up, keyboard and mouse, blank. Am I missing something obvious?

The motherboard is a ASROCK N68C-S UCC and the CPU is Athlon II quad core 640. 3.0 ghz. I've put DDR II RAM in it and all drives have SATA cables.

I only ask because if I give up and take it to the computer shop, then if it's dead simple, he'll laugh at me.

I didn't buy the motherboard and cpu as a bundle.

  • I want a tattoo, worried about symbols origins. ( Swastika )?

I love old symbols such as Chinese and Celt, my origins are a mixture of Norse ( north east europe ) and Mediterranean. I was looking at having the symbol of the three horns of Odin Incorporated into a tattoo somewhere on my back.

I was doing some research into the symbol and found one entry that said it was related to the swastika, ( associated with the Nazi movement of world war 2 ).

I have looked into this also and there are other theories such as, it was taken from a Hindu sign meaning something completely different.

Surely the Norse symbol was around first and meant their god, not racial purification. Or has the Nazi movement tainted any symbol that has been associated with it, rightly or wrongly.

I don't want to have anything that would offend people tattooed all over me.

  • Why can't slaughter by electric shock be considered Kosher?

I don't intend to offend by this question, I am genuinely interested.

Recently researching the term Kosher, I found it to mean that an animal is of split hoof and chews the cud, like sheep, cattle and giraffe oddly, but not pig. A little more complicated for birds. Kosher also means that the animal should be treated well in its life and not beaten or bruised and killed in a certain way, this being to have its throat cut cleanly with a knife in a slicing motion, not causing any bruising.

This strikes me as possibly a very old version of animal welfare. Animals must be treated well and eventually slaughtered with minimal suffering. Very commendable even by todays animal rights standards.

What strikes me is that when these rules were composed, the method of a shock through the head, killing instantly, was not possible. Now that it is, surely someone in a senior position would be allowed to deem it appropriate.

If I appear ignorant, I apologise. I only ask because I can't find the answer.

  • The word, God, means superior being (?) , but what is Gods name?

Through texts and history, people have named their gods, Hindu, Roman, Greek. In christianity they refer to God, in Islam they refer to Allah. Are these names for gods, or do they have other names? Has the name been lost or become the word??

Got an old 80 gig hard drive, just bought a new 320 gig hard drive. Ideally, I'd like to bob the whole thing onto the new drive and just have the one due to available places to install. How do I do it, my new drive is formatted but empty, I have windows Vista basic.

I've heard rave reviews about both these games, but are they very different and is one better than the other? Is one better value or gameplay?

  • Which graphics card is better? I have two, which do I install?

    Righty ho then.

A few days ago, I bought a second hand NVidia Ge force 8800 for £10 off my mate, then a few days later, another mate gave me an ASUS EAH3450. The Ge force has 256 dedicated ram and the ASUS has 512mb, but is it actually any better. Both ddr2 memory and pci-e slot.

Does anyone know to save me fitting both and having a look?

  • Whining noise when I hit 40 mph.?

I've got a Fiat Punto with a 2004 plate. I think it was owned by someone who treated it a bit rough, judging by the brake pads.

The other day, I went over a speed bump and it started to make a weird whining noise later that day. It's related to the speed of the wheels, not the speed of the gears, I can tell that by the tone.

Is there anyone who knows what this is and roughly how expensive the sound is?
