In principle, speed is a relationship. If I go 60 mph in my car that's measured in relation to the road. At the same time I'm going 120 mph in relation to the car in the opposing lane. But we always perceive light to be going light speed regardless of our reference frame. So what do physicists mean when they talk about going 50% light speed? What is that measured against?
