  • Font has installed but why are styles are greyed out/unavailable?

I have installed a font family to my machine (Windows 7), with bold, black, italic and light styles. When I open Flash, the font is listed in the property inspector, but the style drop-down is greyed out with just 'Regular' selected, as if the font family is being seen by Flash as a single font.

The font is true-type. Is there anything I can do to get around this, or is the font family corrupt?

  • Did Mohammad make mistakes that have affected how people view Islam?

A question for muslims or anyone who has a deep understanding of Islam...

Since the Koran is considered as the word of God, Mohammad, was after all, as human as the rest of us. Being a prophet aside for a moment, do any Muslims believe that Mohammad made mistakes that have caused people to not understand Islam correctly in our current time?

i.e. People always cite his marriage to Aisha as an area of concern (though back in the day, people did all kinds of things like this, regardless of religion), and also, there is much talk of how Islam was spread by the sword. If Mohammad had made different decisions in the beginning, do muslims believe that people would be less critical of Islam today? Or did Mohammad do what was needed?

I know Christianity & other religions have similar question marks over its bloody past, but these acts happened after Jesus, as opposed to Jesus being the person who carried them out.

No daft answers from people stirring trouble, thanks.

  • Should the word 'black' as a skin colour be considered racist?

I know everyone has got into the habit of using the word black when referring to someone, but I personally find it a bit offensive, and I'm not even 'black'.

People have so many different coloured skintones, some African women have more milkier complexions, others darker. No one who is the actual colour 'black' exists, so why now, in the year 2007 do we use it to describe a person who's skin tone could range from light to dark? Chinese people are often referred to as yellow in a derogatory way, but when describing a Chinese person, we don't say 'that yellow guy'.

How do 'black' people feel about this word? Perhaps if people weren't such xenophobes and read up on other cultures, we could maybe learn to identify physical traits with their respective cultures i.e. being able to see the different between a dark-skinned somalian woman and a jamaican woman, as opposed to seeing them both as just 'black.

  • Islam and The prophet Mohammad...?

    Hello there,

I have some questions about Islam, if anyone can help me.

I have heard that apparently Mohammad ate meat less than ten times during his entire life. I would like to know if this is true, and whether or not muslims follow his lead on this or believe that they should? It seems that within Arabic culture, meat is a large part of all meals, but why is this if the above is true? Should muslims either not eat meat or limit their meat like their prophet (may) have done.

Also, when muslims use the word mohammad they usually say or write peace be upon him after his name. Is this a requirement? Would muslims prefer if everyone (muslim or non muslim) used the 'pbuh' after mentioning their prophet's name, or is it something that muslims believe only they should do?

    Many thanks :)

  • Lack of 'Eat-In' Asian cuisine restaurants?

I live in London, and we have many Asian takeaways, but very few eat-in Chinese or Japanese cuisine restaurants. Is there a reason for this? Is this just a British thing, or do other countries notice a shortage in their cities too? Do people consider ethnic cuisine fast food, as opposed to gourmet food?

    (I love tofu/bean curd!)

  • How many meat-eaters does it take to change a lightbulb?

    It couldn't be done.

One falls to the floor writhing in pain from food poisoning from reheated pork.

The second does likewise, but from excruciating period pains bought on by a vitamin C defiency.

The third goes into a CJD induced coma.

The fourth is hospitalised with salmonella and the fifth finally gets to the lightbulb- he needs the light on during the day because of a vitamin A defiency bought on by not eating enough vegetables or fruit- but because the poor bloated chap is so obese from all the saturated fat he eats, he hasn't got the strength to reach his arms up.

So a vegan changes the bulb for him.

  • What should I look for in my first double bass?

Already play guitar, so am not a novice when it comes to string instruments. So would rather spend a little more and get something decent...

I'm not sure I'd pigeon-hole myself into what genre I want to be learning... probably mostly rock-blues and jazz.

Some double basses I have seen say they are strung to what genre you want to be playing... can someone explain what specs they do this to? i.e. blues, tighter strings rockabilly, loose-r strings etc?

Should I look for a particular type of wood etc.

I'll be looking for a 3/4 size one.

Also, any decent brands/type suggestions or links to european websites (who ship to the UK) selling a particularly good or good value bass would be nice too :-)

Thanks, sorry if I sound like a double-bass NOOB! :-)
