  • To all "only children": are you happy being an only child, or would you have preferred to have siblings?

I am a mother of one girl who will be four in August of this year (2010), and I am wondering for all those "only" children if you wish your parents had given you brothers and sisters, or if you are happy being by yourself. I have a brother and sister, along with over 30 first cousins, and 10 aunts and uncles. My daughter only has 3 cousins, all of whom are girls, and I am curious if I am doing her an injustice by not giving her siblings to rely on and be close to long after my husband and I are dead and gone. Opinions?

  • Know where I can find the statutes on this???

My hubby's friend had Child protective services called on him and the person told them he is on drugs. So they started drug testing him and he has been passing but now they are saying that they will fail him if he takes prescription drugs for his hernia and arthritis, and they "don't feel like" stopping testing him yet, even though they gave him a set date of Jan. 15. Is this legal? The state is Pennsylvania. If anyone knows where I can find the info on this please give me the link. I appreciate it!

  • Parents: tummy time tips?

What's the best way to deal with tummy time? Should I let my 2 month old cry it out, because she absolutely hates it, but I know she needs it. What's the best course of action? Thanks

  • All Mothers: Need serious help with my 1 month old!! Please read on, thanks!!!?

I have a one month 3 day old daughter who won't stay asleep unless she is being held or in her swing or bouncer. I need suggestions on how to get her to stay asleep in her crib or bassinet without movement because I can't get her used to sleeping these ways for the obvious reasons (she will outgrow her swing etc.) I am EXHAUSTED, what to do???

  • No appetite, what do I do?

I am breastfeeding exclusively and have not had an appetite since I delivered my beautiful girl (3 weeks and 4 days ago).

I eat once a day, but not very much. It is hard to make myself eat because I don't really have the energy to cook anyhow.

Will my milk supply dissipate, and what can I do - other than eat - to stop it from disappearing if it will?

  • Rooting reflex?

Will my daughter (and for that matter all newborns) use their rooting reflex even if they are not hungry?

I am breastfeeding and my 3 week old has been eating LITERALLY every 20-30 minutes since yesterday (though thank goodness she slept during the night). But she is rooting constantly and the only thing that appeases her is to be eating!!

Could it be a growth spurt? I don't know if they have them at 3 weeks of age. My milk supply seems to be fine. I am adamant about not supplementing, but I am drained, literally!

  • My newborn's eyes flutter quickly into a corner?

Is this normal? I was watching on an episode of Mystery Diagnosis on the Discovery Health channel where a woman's 3 month old did the same thing and the baby was eventually diagnosed with Moyamoya disease. It is extremely serious, causing mental retardation and seizures, because blood is blocked of from the brain. I want to know if anyone elses baby has also done this but turned out to be normal. Is this something that normal babies also do? Please help, I'm freaking out, I have to stop watching these shows!

  • depo provera and breastfeeding?

I had a baby 8 days ago and I am exclusively breastfeeding. The doctor said my option for BC other than condoms is depo provera, but before I get it I am wondering if anyone has gotten the shot and then had problems with their milk supply. Any insight is appreciated.

It worries me that she was 21, and would do something like this to avoid telling her family she was pregnant. What lengths might these teenage mothers be going to?

  • Breastfeeding mothers: Know where I can find the cheapest...?

breastfeeding pillow called "my brest friend"? Either online or in a store, it doesn't matter. But I'm due in a little over 3 weeks so it would be helpful if I could just go to a store and buy it and not have to wait for shipping.

Also does anyone know the name of the little neck pillow for infants so their heads aren't constantly against something? And if so where can I buy that?

    Thanks!

  • Could this mean I've dropped?

I am 36 weeks prego with my first baby. I have been carrying low pretty much my whole pregnancy.

But lately whenever I am walking around sometimes I can feel my girl hitting off my pelvic floor (it kind of stings).

I used to only have to pee if I was walking around but now I have to even when I am sitting down.

Also, she often has hiccups right at the lowest center point of my belly.

But sometimes I think I can feel something lodged in my upper rib. However this never occured the whole time I've been pregnant til about a week ago. Is it possible I dropped and she is just long enough to reach my rib? Thanks in advance.

  • Characteristics of my baby?

I am half black, half white with curly brown hair and brown eyes. I am also pretty light-skinned but still noticably black. My hubby is white with straight blonde hair and blue eyes. Is anyone else in a similar relationship with kids, and if so what are some common ways our baby might end up looking?

Curly Brown hair and blue eyes with brown skin? Straight Blonde hair and brown eyes with white skin?

I know everyone is different, and so are our genes, but I am really anxious about what our baby is going to look like, because I have heard of the hospital workers not giving black mothers white babies until tests have been done to ensure her motherhood.

  • Women: 30 weeks, Braxton Hicks?

I had been having this sharp, stinging pain that was located on my left side, toward my back. That was about 3 weeks ago, and when it started, it was for only appx. 5 minutes, once or twice a day. It has been getting progressively worse, with more and more new symptoms occuring. Now, the other evening I was awakened by this pain, so excruciating it made me nauseus, my stomach got hard, I had menstrual like pain, but also in my back, and I felt like I had to go #2. The pain would subside, then come back full force. This lasted for over 2 hours!

I have not had any bloody discharge (that goodness) and I had a non-stress test that showed the baby was perfectly fine, and they said I wasn't having contractions - however I wasn't having the pain during the test. Are they Braxton Hicks, and any thoughts on the duration and seriousness of them? Please help, I still have 10 more weeks to go!!
