I lived with my daughter until she was 3 years old. Because of difficulties with her mother I wasn't in her life again until she was 17 years of age and she wanted to get away from her mom. A couple of months ago I found my daughter online from a marriage I had when I was quite young. Her mother and I split up and haven’t spoken unless it had something to do with child support or her insurance payments.

We have exchanged several emails and but now it seems that I'm doing all the talking and I don’t want to scare her off. Should I only contact her once a month or so or should I wait until I hear from her. I know that she is quite intimidated by her mother and I don’t want to make her life more difficult that it already is.

A few years back my daughter and I had a disagreement. Recently I found her on my space and sent her a message. She sent back a message saying that she may like to get to know me again at some point. Recently she sent a request asking to be added to my friends list so I know she watching at least and I added her of course. Is this a sign that she’s reaching out to me or should I wait until I actually contacts me to speak to her. And if you do think I should contact her where do I start conversation wise. I don’t want to get drawn back to the disagreement that started this problem.

Since she is trying to get to know me I have a feeling her mom may be intimidating her into not speaking with me by telling her that she won’t pay for her college etc. I know in the past she has been telling her terrible things about me. I’ve tried to speak with my ex in the past this but she hangs up on me. So I wrote her a letter and instead of calling me she calls my current wife at work and tells her that her daughter has a father figure in her life and doesn’t need me anymore.

I pretty sure I already know the answer to this but I want your opinions as well for more ideas of what I can do.
