  • Two books I read as a child but can't remember the titles?

I remember reading two books as a child (late 60s-early 70s) which I loved but have since forgotten the titles. Both books were about Jewish families that lived in New York or New Jersey during the first half of the 20th century.

book 1 - All I can remember is that is was about a Jewish famliy with 5 little girls. One part I remember was a detailed description of how they celebrated Passover.

book 2 - About a boy (12 to 14) that I think lived only with his little sister and mother (father dead?). Possibly his little sister was ill. The book's title was the boy's name.

I know this isn't a lot to go by, but I am hoping someone out there might be able to help me.

    Thanks! :o)

Abito a Roma.

    Grazie! :o)

  • English courses in Ireland for over 35s?

I am asking this question of behalf of an Italian friend. She would like to do a 2 week full immersion English course in Ireland. She would like to find a school with people in her age group, say 35 y.o. on up, not teenagers and young adults. Has anyone done this? Can you recommend some schools?

    Thanks!

Ciao a tutti. Come è stata l'esperienza?

  • A question about Scientology?

Are there any Scientologists out there? I know very little about this religion and was wondering if you could explain, in a nut shell, a few things. What is the BASIC belief? Do they have a "religious" day of the week? Did you convert from one of the main 3 Monotheistic religions? What does this religion offer you spiritually that you did not find you religion of origin?

    Thanks!

  • Ideas for a birthday present (see details)?

I have been invited to my landlady's birthday dinner, who is in her mid 60s. We are on very good terms and I am friends with her 4 daughters. I pride myself on usually being able to find the right gifts for people (so I have been told often), but am at a total loss here. Any ideas on what I can get her? Please consider that I live in Italy, so no suggestions about specific shops in the US or UK... Just suggestions for the item. Thanks for your help! :o)

  • A question for Americans who have read this book?

I am American (but living abroad) and am presently reading the book "Why Do People Hate America". Have you read this book and, if so, what is your opinion about it? I'm really curious.

  • Which, in your opinion...?

...is one of the most underrated Beatles song? A song you really like that is not as well know as, say, Yesterday or Let It Be? Ones that are hardly ever aired on radio stations or are included in their compilations?

  • So, how often have YOU been...?

...the 999,999th visitor of a site? Have you ever actually clicked on the darn little pop-up to see what you've "won"?

    I'm curious. ;o)

  • We keep on hearing about how all countries have these enormous foreign debts?

If that's true, then who are the creditors?? I always wonder about this.

  • Murder One with Anthony La Paglia?

Hi! I live in Italy and a few months ago they were airing what I am assuming was the first season this show on Sky. I really liked it. Suddenly, it wasn't on anymore. Did they do any more seasons of this show in the States or was it cancelled? Or did Sky Italy only buy the first season (the penny pinchers!!).

Just wanted to know if I can look forward to seeing more of this show or not. Thanks!

  • A trip to New York and...?

Hi! I'm from Italy. I will be visiting NY the first week of April with friends. We are 7 adults. We are planning to book a hotel in New Jersey because accommodation there is cheaper. We will be renting a car (our trip will continue to Boston). What to you suggest is our best option to reach New York from NJ (3 days back and forth). Take our car, park somewhere in NY then move around by public trasportation, or commute by subway NJ-NY or any other suggestions? Thanks!

  • Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire?

OK, this is for people who have read the books and know their stuff. My sister thinks I'm fixated on this particular detail (and maybe she's right! lol) but... There is a short bit in GOF that intrigues me and I'm convince it will pop up again in Book 7.

When Harry first discovers the pensieve, at one point Bertha Jorkins appears and says she was jinxed by someone because she followed him and saw him kissing "Florence" behind the greenhouse. Dumbledore says "sadly", "Why did you follow him in the first place?" I am convinced an important revelation will come of this seemingly unimportant bit. Otherwise, why would it still be in the pensieve and why would Dumbledore deem this memory so important to the point of preserving it in the pensieve in the first place?

Did anyone else pick this up - or am I a lone lunatic??

C'mon guys, theres still a long time before Book 7 is released. Might as well bide our time... Wanna play? :o)

  • New York, where to sleep??

Hi to All. I'm from Italy and will be making a trip to NYC from Mar 28 to Apr 7. Do you know of good, clean and CHEAP places to sleep? Hotels, motels, B&Bs for about 2-3 nights? We 6-7 adults.

    Thanks!

  • Trip to Boston and...?

I'm Italian and I will be making a trip to NYC, Boston and possibly Niagara Falls in April (Mar 28-Apr 7) with friends. We will be renting a car.

I've already been to NYC, so I know what to do there.

I've never been to Boston. What are some must do's there? And is it too ambitious to want to make it to Niagara Falls from Boston in the amount of time we have? Any nice places worth stopping by on the way? And, is it still cold in April?

    Thanks!

    Grazie!
