Who is making the sacrifice?
With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching, I was wondering who is making the sacrifice of their career to be home while the children are out of school. This is a question for dual-income families with children who do not use the services of child care, whether paid or a friend/family member.
I already work from my home office which does afford me a lot of flexibility as I don't work certain hours, but rather meet deadlines. However, I can't really be attentive to a 5 and 6-year-old while I'm busy working, so I am rearranging my hours to work while they are sleeping.
Who in your family makes the sacrifice? Are both partners taking turns sacrificing? How are these decisions made? Do these decisions feel voluntary or imposed?

As a follow-up to the question about Rio's clone, I wonder how many others reported the clone and/or have reported other clones when they notice them. I reported the clone because I don't think it's right to try to defame others that way.

what is your perception of me? I am looking for both men's and women's perceptions of a woman who proclaims herself not a feminist.
26 AnswersGender Studies1 decade agoWhy is there a Women's Studies' section but no Men's?
As you can see, I am a woman. But why is it okay for women to have this section of their own, schools of their own, groups/organizations of their own, etc., but if men do it, it is called chauvanistic, misogynistic, etc? I am not looking for the easy answers, ie, women imagine they are always being victimized, men are neanderthal knuckle-draggers intent on bashing women over the head and dragging them to a cave for sex and a pot roast so women HAVE to fight back, etc. I am looking for intelligent, well-thought out observations.
I don't think being a woman is any harder than being a man or vice versa, just different. If a man is a brand new Samsung 46" flat screen HD TV, then a woman is a pair of 14K 1 ct TW Princess Cut diamond earrings - these items are on my wish list =) Basically, what I'm saying is both of these items are about the same value, but are quite different in character.
18 AnswersGender Studies1 decade agoShould I tell him?
Yesterday was my older brother's birthday party which was thrown by myself and my younger brother. There were a lot of people there including my ex-husband, who is the father of my 2 older children. He had driven 1000 miles to visit with his children, and since they were invited to the party, everyone felt it only right to invite him as well. My current husband couldn't be there because he had to work.
So today, my younger brother's girlfriend tells me that she was talking to my ex-husband yesterday and he told her that he is still in love with me. I'm not in love with him; we have been divorced for 10 years. My current husband has occasionally stated that he thinks my ex still has a thing for me, but I've always just brushed it off and told him he is being silly. Now that I know that he was right, is this the kind of thing I should tell him?
