I got a new cat from the rescue society on Friday. She's a year old, and had been with them for 3 months. She's in good health, glossy coat, etc.

She is also extremely insecure. She always wants to be in the room with us, or know where we are. If I move from room to room, she'll follow me and wait to see what I do. I can deal with that, she needs time to adjust and get used to having a family.

But her insecurity is causing eating issues -- if we walk past her while she's eating, she will stop in order to follow us! After normal eating patterns all weekend, she didn't touch her food today while she was home alone! I was afraid of something like this, so I took note of what I was feeding her. She went right to her dish when I led her, and ate heartily... but not while alone.

Anyone out there have experience dealing with this kind of insecurity, have tips or advice? I've had cats before, but never neurotic in this fashion. All advice welcome.

I'm looking for a horror book I read in the early 80's. It was about two children who battle the evil antagonist -- I don't remember the antagonist's name, sadly. One of the children has a supernatural power to heal. What I do remember clearly is the little rhyme about that healing power.

"The healer heals and heals again, but it leaves the healer never the same."

Somewhere in the book he uses the power to heal on of their parents, and it makes him very sick.

....

And that's what I remember. Does anyone know this book, or have information about it to help me find it again?
