I am 57 and just had it confirmed that I was adopted, even though nobody ever told me anything, and I suspected it since childhood. Now I'm searching for my birth family.

  • BIRTHMOM or twin, was your photo in Times-Picayune New Orleans newspaper, day after Mardi Gras 1962?

I am 57, just found out I was adopted, and am searching for birth parents for medical info, heritage, and to meet if you so desire. I saw my exact duplicate in that photo!

I was raised by two people who wanted me more than anything in the world, and I never doubted that I was loved. They sacrificed to give me everything.

I am not angry and do not feel abandoned, as I know it was the circumstances, and I was just "a baby" to you, and it wasn't against me personally. I want you to know it's okay. I couldn't have had better parents. Thank you for giving me to them.

However, I feel that something is missing. People who are not adopted will never understand the feeling we have when we find out our past is a blank page.

Please let me meet you, or siblings, if there are any. I've longed for a sister my entire life, and if that was a twin or sister in that photo, I'd love to meet you. I don't want anything from you except to meet, if you want to meet me, too.

  • Was that your photo in the Times Picayune newspaper in New Orleans in your flapper outfit on March 7, 1962?

It was the day after Mardi Gras.

If so, you might be my twin or my birth mother. When I was 12, I saw myself in the paper, only it really wasn't me. It was my face, my hairdo, and even my pose, but it wasn't me.

Now I found out I was adopted! So are you my twin? My birth mother? It's hard to tell the age of the person in the newspaper photo. When I was 12, everybody called to tell me they saw my picture in the paper, and it DID look EXACTLY like me! But she also looks just like my daughter who is now 34.

So if you see this, answer here, please. I would love to meet you. If we are related, don't worry, I won't give away your secret if you don't want it known, but I need medical history for my children and grandchildren.

I am registered on several adoption search sites, so you can also list yourself there.

  • What is "group posting settings" in Yahoo Groups, and how do I change it for when I post?

One group I belong to said they have to keep fishing my posts out of the spam folder b'cuz it says I'm using "group posting settings" & they don't even know what that is. They have used a filter to make sure my posts go through, so I'm okay there now. I've been a member there (used to be different site before yahoogroups came into existence) for over 10 years, including before it was moved to YG.

However, if there's a setting that I can change, I'd like to do it. Searched but couldn't find ans.

Also, recently I got two IM msgs saying they were from Yahoo, & that there were "numerous complaints" that I spammed both groups and chat, bt I never do that! I've been with the same group 10 years, & the only chat I was on recently had some technical problems; the group had to try 4 different chat sites before they found one that worked for most people.

    So--

Help, please. Apparently I just need to adjust some setting somewhere, but what setting and where is it? THANKS!

  • Was it ever ILLEGAL TO BAN smoking in restaurants or other businesses or rental apartments?

I've been discussing the smoking issue, but have a couple of business owners claiming that the government is taking away their rights. They believe that the government should not pass nor enforce anti-smoking laws, but I'm curious to find out if it was ever illegal to ban smoking from any businesses at all. I'm especially wondering about restaurants, clothing stores (where merchandise could be ruined by smoke and it could be a real fire hazard), schools (by teachers), or anyplace.

So, in your area, was it ever ILLEGAL TO BAN smoking from anyplace? Please ask your parents, and especially your grandparents or older neighbors who might know.

There are a few points I am about to make to them (on a group, not here), comparing the smoking issue to some other issues, but I want to see if anyone here comes up with my same thoughts before I post it to them.

Thank you in advance for participating.

  • Tasters' Choice coffee commercials, the "soap opera" series, years ago. How did it end? I missed a few.

I would appreciate it if somebody could give me a link if the videos are posted someplace, or just give me a rundown of what happened in each one. I hope somebody remembers those commercials. They were like a mini soap opera. Don't remember how many years ago, but it drove me crazy a few years ago, and a question I saw today made me think of them again. HELP! Please!

I don't know if the couple were married or having an affair, but when each one came out, people couldn't wait for the next one to find out what happened. So what happened?

  • How can I (elderly handicapped lady) get out of abusive situation, but not lose my home?

My husband, though physically abusive on the rare occasion, is verbally abusive every day. He yells about everything. Nothing I do is right. He's mad at me because I'm now handicapped. (I didn't ASK for this!) He's always putting me down, and I can't take it any more. If I call the police, he might lose his job, and I'll lose my home, not that I'm happy here, but at least I have a roof over my head and food on the table.

I try to not yell back or reply negatively when he calls me all sorts of names, but he knows that I can only hold out so long before I'll finally say something back to him. Sometimes I wonder why I'm even here. I often wish I weren't. I don't do anything mean to him, and I know he's very stressed with work, but that doesn't give him the right to treat me the way he does. He calls me horrible names, and I don't know where to get help. It's not like our home is already paid for. Our kids live out of state. How can I stop the screaming, but keep my home?
