  • What is a great current song to analyze?

I am looking for a current song that teens listen to that has some kind of cultural criticism for the youth group I am leader. I am 42, so I have been using songs from U2 and Radiohead, but they really don't relate because they have never heard of my music. They do eventually come to appreciate the music a little bit, but I would like to use something that they listen to. Obviously Justin Bieber has nothing of poetic value, but there's got to be something out there that is somewhat incisive. There is a lot of hip-hop out there that has some great meaning, but I suspect my group doesn't really listen to it. Any ideas?

Thus far I have used Zooropa, Closer to Fine and Fake Plastic Trees. They all thought each was "weird". :-)

  • I want a completely bootable clone drive of my Windows 7 environment?

I have a laptop which I sometimes wonder may die soon. I bought an external USB hard drive, which is in fact bigger than what is in the laptop. What I want to do is make an image of my laptop's disk in such a way that (after changing the BIOS settings to boot from USB) I can boot from this external drive and it is as if I am working on the same computer (less whatever hardware changes there might be) but I would be on any other given computer capable of booting off of a USB. I have found numerous programs that claim to "image" the disk, but it is not bootable. Norton Ghost does not do this either (as the Best Buy geek told me). i tried R-Drive which does a raw, disk to disk copy and it did not work either.

I know that wanting to do this sounds strange, but I have some programs that are not easy to reinstall and so I'd like to not have to worry about that if my laptop dies. Also, it just seems to me to - theoretically at least - an easy thing to do, but I have not found anything.

  • Why does a non-super majority not allow Obama to win his health care package?

I am a Canadian, so the intricacies of the US political system are not entirely understood by me with respect to passing bills. If Obama (or, I suppose I should say, the Democrats) still have a majority, why can't they push through the bill? With the extra seat for the Republicans, my reading is that they can now "filibuster" which in my understanding, make debate on the bill interminable. But this seems to me to just be a stalling tactic, but can't actually stop a bill from passing. So why is it now in such dire straights? Please, no comments on whether you like or dislike the bill - this is a political question only.

  • Christians who think it is their duty to argue for the right to bear arms?

Why is it that Christians of many stripes think that it is a necessary part of their platform to argue for the right to bear arms, or for the loosening of gun laws. Whether or not this is a good idea, why does it seem that Christians feel this is important?

  • Sharing a printer over a network?

I am able to share my printer over my network, but with one problem. The only way I can do it is to first enter a userID and password to access the computer to which the printer is attached (that is, the Administrator account). Is there not a way to make it so that anyone in my home network can just print without doing this?

  • Sympatico home wireless network?

I have Sympatico and all my computers (two laptops with XP Home) are using the sympatico modem (2Wire Gateway) to get on the Internet with no problems. What I want to do is have my computers also be locally connected in a wireless LAN, particularly so that I can print a document from one computer (wirelessly) to another computer attached to a printer. Bell claims that this is something they do not support. Is there not a straight-forward way to do this?

  • Buying a mac on eBay with warranty?

I am thinking of getting a macbook on eBay. I am careful about not getting a shady computer and it won't be used. What I am wondering, however, is if I can get a warranty by doing this? For example, I live in Canada, but I'd likely buy it from the US; would Apple cover me? Is there anything I can buy that would?

  • Installing Leopard on a PC laptop?

I am trying to figure out which laptop to buy and really want a mac, but can't afford it. A friend told me that you can install Leopard (or Tiger) on a PC with Boot Camp. Is this possible? Some of the searches I did on this seemed to say that it is not legal...I want to keep it legal!!

  • Derivation of relativistic mass increase?

I can derive the relativistic equations for time dilation and length contraction for Einstein's theory of relativity; is there a similar derivation for relativisitic mass increase? I figure it must have something to do with the conservation of momentum at relativistic speeds, but I have not yet seen a good derivation.

  • Family vacation website that gives quotes?

I want to book a Caribbean vacation for 5 adults and 2 children under 5 and want to find a website that will give me a quote for this kind of group. I can't find one that will do it (usually it only allows a couple of people). Can you tell me a website that will do this?

  • How do I get my Bluetooth to work with my Samsung APH-a640?

I have a laptop computer that has a LAN access driver and claims to be Bluetooth enabled. I just got a Samsung SPH-a640 cell phone that is also Bluetooth enabled. Should the laptop not recognize the phone? I set the phone to be "always visible" and no matter what I do, the computer does not find the phone. Why? It should be able to do this wirelessly, right?

  • At what point was it determined that pi was an irrational number?

Most people know that pi is the ratio of the cricumference of a circle to its diameter. What is not intuitive, however, is why this number is necessarily a non-repeating number. We know now by the various uses of trigonometry and calculus how to determine pi. When, however, did mathematicians know the nature of pi, and how? I mean, I could measure the circumference of a circle (say, take a string of known length and make a circle with it), then measure its diameter, and I will maybe get 3.14, but of course, my measurement would not be exact enough to know that it is an irrational number. SO....how did they do it?

I am looking for a real application for imaginary numbers....not to find the complex root of an equation... something that really makes them useful!
