  • Diminutives of Greek names...?

I am aware that, when speaking to a Greek guy you can take the 's' off the end, so Nikos becomes Niko etc...but is that ONLY when you're using their name to them, or is it also done in other situations? And are female names also given diminutives? Anyone know of any websites that explain this?

  • Greeks and Greek speakers only please...usage of 're'?

Hey, I get to spend time with a small group of Greeks on a fairly regular basis, and have noticed that they often say 'ela re...', or just 're'. I can't seem to find a pattern in the usage of this, and was wondering if anyone could explain what both the above sayings mean and how to use them appropriately.

    Thanks :)

  • What constitutes 'low wage'?

I'm hoping to be starting a minimum wage job shortly, after having been receiving JSA, council tax benefits and housing benefits for about a year and a half.

Apparently people on a 'low income' can get financial help with rent and council tax, but I can't find an actual description of this elusive 'low income' wage. Is it national minimum wage?

I'm over 25, single and rent my own flat (in case that needs consideration).

    Cheers :) x

  • Americans: TV related question :)?

Hey. Was wondering: do you get irritated by the sheer amount of adverts on TV? I was in Orlando recently and was amazed at how much advertising there is - in the UK it's unheard of to have an ad break between the programme and the opening/closing credits.

BTW: I've never met such polite and respectful people as I did in Orlando, they're a credit to their country. I fell in love with the place and people!

  • What interesting things can I do with my hair?

My hair is just below shoulder length, straight and mid brown with natural golden highlights and a parting on my left side. I don't have a fringe (bangs). I'm growing it so don't want to cut it (barring trims), I don't want to dye it, and it doesn't hold a curl. Without making any permanent changes, what could I do with it to make it look more interesting and unusual?

    Cheers :) x

  • How to satisfy intense broodiness?

I'm not in a position to start a family (I'm not financially stable, my relationship isn't yet ready for it, I'm not psychologically responsible enough), but the body clock's kicking in and the yearning to have a baby is almost intolerable.

Is there anything I can do to satisfy or at least cope with these feelings? I can't keep a pet as I live in a non-pets apartment.

    Thanks all :) x

  • How to cook this Kurdish dish?

My neighbour, who is an Iraqi Kurd (I think that's correct, sorry if not), makes this delicious dish using stuffed vine leaves and chicken, and seemingly variations on other ingredients such as aubergine, courgette and tomato. Is this a traditional dish? If so, does anyone have a good recipe and how-to on making this dish? I'd ask my neighbour but she doesn't speak English.

    Many thanks :)

  • How to cry-proof my makeup?

I'm very recently single and am going out with my girlfriends tonight (it's that or stay home moping). I want to look good but I'm worried that a spontaneous flood of tears will leave me looking like Barbara Cartland. Any tips on how to make my makeup cry-proof?

    Cheers :)

  • How should I dress for my age?

I'm a 26 year old pale white British female. I'm size 10-12, about 5'7'' and have an hourglass figure, brown hair and green eyes. I was wondering if there's anything I should be bearing in mind when I choose my clothes - I don't want to look like a mid-twenties girl trying to look like a teenager! Any thoughts?

    Cheers :)

  • On Nintendogs+Cats, how do you feed a treat while on a walk?

I can tug on the lead until my dog looks at me with an exclaimation mark over her head, but how do I give her a treat after she's come away from the bin/rubbish etc? There are no icons on-screen or anything I can press/tap to access the treats.

I'd really appreciate an answer as I'm pathetically fond of my dog.

    Cheers :)

  • Will antibiotics affect my copper coil?

I have the Nova T 380 fitted for contraceptive purposes and have just had to go on a course of Erythromycin. Will the antibiotics affect the efficacy of my coil? There was nothing in the info booklet about this issue.

  • How to show respect to my Muslim neighbours?

I live next door to a really nice young Kurdish Muslim couple and their new baby. We're very friendly (in fact they're the nicest neighbours I've ever had), but I don't know a huge deal about Islam or Kurdistan and would like to know if there's anything I might do (as a non-religious Egnlish woman) that may inadvertently offend them, and also if there's anything I can do to show respect for them and their religion. They're pretty relaxed (she has no problem with me seeing her hair or arms). ike to know if there's anything I might do (as a non-religious Egnlish woman) that may inadvertently offend them, and also if there's anything I can do to show respect for them and their religion. • Remedy for raw skin on face?

    Hey,

I was epilating my lip today and I think I left it on one spot too long and it's removed the top few layers of skin. It's not particularly red but is sore and is kind of sweating a clear/yellowish liquid.

Does anyone know of any remedies - can use to help it heal, or should I just leave it alone? It looks like a horrible coldsore!

    Thanks everyone :) x

  • Why can't I rate answers?

I use my phone for the internet.

I keep trying to rate answers, but here's what happens:

    - I click on 'choose as best answer'

    - my question, the selected answer and a column of grey stars appears, which turn green as I click on them.

    - I add feedback and hit 'submit'.

    - the same page reloads. The stars have gone grey again but my feedback is still in the box. A pink banner tells me 'you must rate the answer'.

    - I go through the same process a couple of times, then give up.

    What am I missing here??

  • How can I pluck up the courage to sing on stage?

Please realise that nothing said here is meant in arrogance.

I have a good voice & come from a very musical background (both my family & romantic partners), & have been told by professional singers (who don't tend to bulls**t you) that I'm an amazing singer. I live in a town with regular open mic nights & karaoke.

In spite of all this, & the fact that I'd love to *be* a proper singer, the thought of singing in front of a roomful of people makes me freeze in terror.

Is there anything I can do?

  • How much money can I have and still receive income based Jobseekers Allowance?

I'm on income based JSA and have been for about 2 and a half months. The other day I received an inheritance cheque for just over £9,000. If I put it in my account will my benefits be stopped?

  • What is this piece of jewellery?

I thought it was a brooch when I saw it in a charity shop but it isn't.

It's an oval with a cameo on the front, and when you turn it over it has a horseshoe shaped clip (which is sprung) that you can lift up.

What is it and how is it used?
