  • Ex-convicts: What would be an affective alternative to prison?

This question is directed to anybody who has done time long term and thinks that prison made them more voilent, inclined to crime, etc.

The reason I am asking is because I am currently watching a documentary on Solitary Confinement, and the prisoners keep telling about the negative effects of being locked up long term.

I have no idea what it is like to be locked up so I am curious if anybody who has done time long term has any thoughts on a better way to punish, rehabilitate, etc. criminals.

This is a serious question asked out of genuine interest. I had no intention on using any terms that are considered insensetive so please disregard these terms if you felt offended by them. I am only looking for answers.

    Thanks to all who answer.

  • Where, in the gospels, does Jesus day that he is God?

I have only seen that he says that he is the son of God or the messenger for God. Even in Matthew (24:36) He states "No one knows about that day and hour, not the angels in heaven, not the Son, but only the Father." This seems pretty clear that he is differentiating himself from God in a concrete manner. Where does he say that He is God?

  • Would you be comfortable living in a world if everybody else in the world acted like you? If not, why?

Elaboration: Im not saying that everybody else would be a clone or devoid of free will. I am talking about a hypothetical world in which everybody's morals (as well as the actions they took based on those morals) were consistent with yours.

Example: Lets say that you witness a person getting mugged. You have a few options. You may do nothing, call the police, remember the muggers face and distinguishing marks, use your phone to record it then post it to youtube, jump in and stop the mugging, help the mugger, mug the mugger when he is done and steal both wallets, etc. Would you be comfortable living in a world in which everybody else would react to the situation the same way you did?

  • My Compaq Notebook is turning off randomly. It is not the battery. What can it be?

My laptop shuts off (not shuts down, but the power just cuts out) at random times. It even shuts off when it is plugged in. I thought it may be the battery, but once it was able to be turned on again I removed the battery and it stayed on. This tells me that it is probably not the battery. It seems like it may be a short in the computer or something like that, but I don't really know anything about computers. Anything would help. Thanks.
