My boyfriend and I were just able to look at the sun for a moment. It was a perfect, white sphere, and you could see sun spots on it. It looked like a giant, full moon, but the moon is waning crescent today, and you can see it in another part of the sky. It was as if the clouds were filtering it. Has anyone experienced this or know what causes it?

We're getting ready to move onto what we have been calling just "The Farm," and the subject of the day has been a name! We're looking for ideas... it is 27 acres, mostly wooded, some pasture-land. It has a pond and some really awesome old trees. It is very hilly, and it's in southern Indiana on the Ohio River. We want something creative and natural -- we are gonna have horses, chickens, goats, and in the future alpacas and maybe even a cow or two. We are striving for self-sustainability.

Names we have considered so far (these can either have "farm," "ranch," or whatever after them) --

Honeysuckle Hill

Periwinkle or Perrywinkle (It's in Perry County)

something to do with the wildlife -- Vultures, Crows, foxes, coyotes, oppossums, etc.

I volunteer as a Barn Manager/Trainer at a local rescue. Recently, the owner has moved a pony onto my premises that is displaying very distressing signs to me. She was on another volunteers property with her foal (who the volunteer is adopting), and she started to display signs of lethargy and dizzyness, and she developed swelling of the lips and muzzle. I was not aware of the pony being hurt until she arrived, and after talking to the owner of the rescue, she told me the pony had been checked by a vet and not prescribed any treatment or action to combat her symptoms.

Upon inspecting the horse myself, I noticed she was feeling ill. The skin on her muzzle has developed sores and her lower lip especially is quite swollen and red. The sores are oozing. Another thing I noticed was that her sclera was yellowed, and her eyes looked slightly hazy. Upon a rub down, I felt patches of skin/muscle that felt hard on her shoulder and rump.

The vet did not prescribe any remedy, and only suggested the foal be taken away -- in my opinion, a bit too early -- but I guess it would be better than the foal nursing on tainted milk. The vet said "If it was going to kill her, it would have by now." Not very comforting.

I am wondering if there is any other suggestions of things I could do to ease this girl's pain. Will it work out on it's own? Are there any special feeds or supplements that could help her liver if it's poison? Could it be anything else?

Right now I have her in a round pen that sits inside the pasture. She has a bit of grass to nibble on, plus hay and water. Another mare and foal and a gelding can interact with her across the pen fence.

I just inherited a ten gallon tank from a friend. It was in rather poor shape and was housing a single 10-12 inch plecostamus (who has been re-homed in a 55 gallon!) The gravel was absolutely filthy and the filter was unmentionable. I proceeded to vacuum the gravel with a siphon, and removed most of the debris. I replaced the filter with one rated for a 29 gallon tank, rinsed the old filter media, and added it to the filter along with two new filter cartridges. I pretty much ended up doing a 100% water change since i had to have enough water to siphon the gravel.

Question is -- Do you think rinsing the gravel and old filter media (as well as using a new filter) will wash away all the bacteria that had colonized in the old tank setup? Do you think the tank will have to cycle completely, or just experience a mini-cycle? Right now, there is nothing in the tank but gravel, some debris that didn't get siphoned, and fresh water.

My 1996 Toyota RAV4 has been making a grinding noise while I drive for quite some time. It is shaking the vehicle and gets worse with speed. I assumed it was something to do with the wheels, so I took it to a tire shop. They said it was the transaxle. What does this entail, and what are the estimated repair costs?

I get kinda freaked out and try not to look behind me, but I feel like someone is there!

BQ: Do you think it can be unhealthy, or does it not matter?

I do, usually, but I don't eat a ton of sunflower seeds. I have heard of the shells causing impaction in the bowels, though, of people who eat a whole lot of them.
