  • unfair dismissal while pregnant?

My partner is 3 months pregnant and has let her employer know. under 2 weeks later her employer called her in to the office to say that they were making 1 employee redundant and she was up for consideration. her employer has always dodged laws and been a very bad employer. She has never been given a terms of employment document despite being employed for 2 years and requesting one. While they have told all employees that a redundancy will be made we believe it is just a plan to legally get rid of the pregnant employee.

Today they have come to her with a letter to say that she is being given a disciplinary for not following procedure on a prior matter. She says that this is normal for things to be done in a certain way and was not at fault for not following procedure.

It is quite obvious that they are just bolstering their evidence for selecting her for redundancy due to her disciplinary record etc..

They asked her to sign the letter to say that she understands it and agrees with it.

She refused, as i had told her not to sign or agree to anything.

So they said if you do not sign it you will have to leave and as she still refused she was asked to leave.

There are a few things we will be following up but for now where does she stand.

The issues are: unfair treatment and stress amounting to sex discrimination whilst pregnant.

    Unfair dismissal while pregnant etc..

Please let me know your thoughts but only factual answers from people who know the law in these matters, i am able to find out most basic info from direct.gov and ACAS.

    Thanks,

  • Iconic drinking locations in london?

I am making the short trip to London this weekend for a day and night out drinking with my dad and brother. A lads night out type thing.

I have been trying to think of the different pubs etc we should visit.

I was taken in by the Blind beggar pub in Whitechapel as this was the location of the most famous murder commited by the notorious kray brothers.

I am hard pushed to find on the internet other such pubs in Central London that hold the same kind of cult/iconic status.

I would like to put a few together so we can do a crawl around them all.

I.e pubs that have been featured in films or hold historical importance, frequented by famous people etc..

    real emphasis on CULT.

    Thanks,

  • I need people to help me find out if a prison sentence is likely for the following crime.?

It is not for me but for someone who i am close to.

Is someone likely to go to prison for theft. If it is their first offence?

The reason i ask is that i know it would depend on the items stolen and value.

This person has stolen over the space of 2 years £25,000 worth of valuable items from 2 companies that they have worked for.

They have been caught and heavily questioned by police and charged with theft. another person who lives with the first person has also been charged with pocessing/handling stolen goods.

The second person has a previous conviction for common assault, dating back from when they were 17 (now 23).

The second person has protested their innocense as it was their girlfriend (the first person) who had stolen all the goods and they were unaware of this. however the items were in plain view all over their shared house when a warrant was executed.

The first person has admitted to stealing 60-70% of the items found and the police still believe they have stolen the other items.

What are the chances of the first person facing a prison sentence for their first offence due to the ammount stolen and the period of time it was stolen over?

and also what is the likely sentence, charge for the second person charged with handling stolen goods.

also note the first person has said that the second person was not involved in or aware of any wrongdoing or illegal behaviour.

Thank you in advance for your serious responses.

  • I wrote a poem about the dreams im having while on some powerful prescribed drugs. Is it any good?

Hazed is the lake of black.

    Glazed are my views, green.

Open is my mind but closed are my doors.

    Stuck behind.

    No way out, push.

    Falling, but not down.

    Lower.

    Awake. Though asleep through screams.

    Silence but dreams are loud

    Fever.

    Shout!

    Not amazed, roll through dark.

    Listening but never heard.

    Loud asleep.

    Run.

  • Can i sue a burglar who is currently in prison?

We were burgled in the middle of 2009 and while there were only a few things missing recent developments have caused great stress, costs and loss of earnings.

My girlfriend is of Polish nationality and her ID card was stolen with her bag during the burglary.

Months later we have been to the Polish embassy to apply for a new card so that we can go on holiday.

We were told that as we do not have the original ID card then they will only be able to issue a temporary card that will be valid for 5 days and a 1 way journey to Poland only.

My girlfriends work will not pay holiday pay (mainly because they are a bad company).

They will give her the time off unpaid as they do not have another choice.

It could take up to 1 month that my girlfriend will have to spend in Poland while the ID is processed.

So we are looking at 1 month without wages, the costs of return flights to and from poland.

The cost of traveling across Poland as she lives far east side.

Plus the costs of traveling twice to the embassy in London and the £40 administration charge that was paid for the temporary passport/ID.

I have a crime reference number as was told by the police that the burglar had admitted and been prosecuted for a number of burglaries and is serving a prison sentence.

My question is can i pursue some form of legal/civil action against the burglar to recoup all these costs that he is responsible for?

    Thanks,

    Adam
