  • What do you recommend to help soothe a teething baby?

My four month old daughter just started teething, and I feel so bad for her. She's usually such a cheerful little girl--she's not fussy at all--but she cries and cries, and I know it's because she's in pain.

What tips do you recommend to help soothe her and make her feel better? I'd love any personal stories or suggestions. Also, how long did it take from the time your baby started teething to when they got their first tooth?

    Thanks!

If you've had prurigo of pregnancy, what relieved the itchiness? And how soon after giving birth did it go away?

    Thanks!

  • Why is my cat's behavior changing?

I've had my cat for seven months now. I got her when she was about nine months old, so she's nearly a year and a half right now.

Though I got her from a loving foster home, we don't know what happened to her in her early life--we suspect she was abused, because she was always scared of strangers, and flinches when anyone moved suddenly in her direction.

From the moment we met, though, she wasn't scared of me, so we were a perfect match. I brought her home, and even though she was skittish at first (and still hides when strangers come into the house) she's grown a lot braver and bolder since she's been living with me.

All that is great! I love that she's feeling comfortable and safe in our house. However, recently her behavior has started changing again, in not such a great way. Frequently, when I'm petting her, she'll nip at my hand, or grab my hand in her claws and bring it to her mouth and bite down gently. She never bites me hard or anything--it really does seem like play--but she never used to do it before. Whenever she does it, I take my hand away and say "OUCH" loudly, and stop playing with her.

She's also just this week started chewing on wires. We have had this cat for seven months, and she has never once chewed a wire until this week.

Can you think of any reason why her behavior might be changing like this? Nothing has changed in her diet, or her home environment. She's still a sweetheart and I love her, but I'm baffled as to why she's suddenly exhibiting bad habits out of the blue.

    Thanks!

  • If you had three days to spend in Yosemite, what would you do? What's a must-see?

We're going to Yosemite National Park next week, and we'll be there for three days. What are the best, absolute must-sees? The one catch is that I'm pregnant, so we can't do anything too taxing (like rock climbing or rapelling.) What are the best moderate hikes, the most beautiful sights? What should we absolutely not miss? And, is there anything that you weren't so wowed by that we shouldn't bother with?

    Thank you!

  • Are ant bait traps safe when you have a cat?

We're having a bit of an ant problem this year. Are ant traps like this one safe to put out if we have a cat? I don't want to endanger her at all, so if we have to we'll just suck it up and deal with the ants, but I'd really love to be able to put something out to deal with the problem.

And if these aren't safe, can you recommend anything to combat ants that IS safe for cats?

    Thanks!

  • 20 weeks pregnant...is it safe to lie on my back?

I'm 20 weeks pregnant, and I've heard from various sources that you're not supposed to sleep on your back. How strict is this? The last few nights, I've gone to sleep on my side, and actually woken myself up in the middle of the night so I could flip myself from my back to my side. I'm getting tired of it! Besides, I find that I am more comfortable on my back than my side.

And does it apply to more than just sleeping? Can I lie on my back and read, or is that a bad idea?

Basically, if you could enlighten me as to how far this restriction/guidline applies, I'd really appreciate it!

  • 18 weeks pregnant and having mild abdominal pain...what does it mean?

I'm 18 weeks pregnant, and have been experiencing mild abdominal pain/cramping for the last 24 hours. It's not very painful, but I'm worried that it might mean something bad for the baby. Has anyone had this before? What did it mean for your pregnancy?

I have a call out to my doctor, but he's delivering a baby and will be checking in for messages and will call me back. In the meantime, I'm really starting to worry, and would love any personal experience with this kind of thing. Thanks!

  • Pregnant and leaking colostrum...what's the best way to handle?

I'm 18 weeks pregnant, and I'm starting to leak colostrum. I'm wondering what the best way to handle it is if I want to make the leaking episode as short as possible. Should I squeeze my breast and try to express the colostrum faster, to get rid of the "supply"? Or should I leave it alone, because squeezing it out generates more colostrum?

    Thanks!
