  • What is wrong with my PC?

I had a power surge the other day. After that, the pc wouldn't boot. Nothing at all. No fan, no beep. Just a green light.

So I replaced the PSU with a new one (500w which should be ample). With the new PSU the fans started turning but no beeps and no success.

So, thinking that the CPU or board was fried and not wanting to pollute either with the existing components, I bought a new rig.

Motherboard (ASUS M4A88TDV Evo), new CPU (AMD Phenom ii x2 550) and 4gb of 1066 ddr3 Kingston memory. Hooked it all up to the 2nd PSU, no peripherals. No problems on install, no errant screwdrivers or drops. Checked it 100 times. All the pins in the right place. Power plugs fine. But no boot and no beep.

Now I am really grumpy. Is it the motherboard? Is it the CPU? Do I send one back or will the online vendor charge me if one is fine and the other one isn't. Or do I take the whole thing to some local pc shop where a monkey plugs it in to check it.

    Or am I jinxed?

PS Mac freaks can give any smart alec comments a rest. I do also have a Mac. I need this for work.

  • What sort of person answers over 100000 questions on this site?

One contributor has answered 106000 odd questions. Now, lets say this person answers one question every 2 minutes then he/ she spent 212000 minutes answering questions. If he/ she works 7 hours a day for 50 minutes an hour that is 605 days effort. Assuming holidays and so on that is about 3 years full time work. For free?

Does this person need to reconsider their life goals? Or should Yahoo be paying this person? I think he/she should at least consider asking for a pension or other employment rights.

  • Why do cats get more "talkative" as they get older?

Before people get snooty I know they don't talk, Mine have been good at hunting but generally dumb when it comes to reading and writing.

However, cats certainly seem to make more squawks and meows as they grow older.

Are they copying us in the same way that a parrot does? I.e. are they hearing us talk and simply trying to mimic the sound?
