How many combinations are in a 3x3 grid?
I'm trying to make a game using grid tiles. Each tile is 3x3 square and contains 9 individual squares (like one side of a rubix cube). Each square can be either black or white.
I would like to know if there is a formula that will tell me how many combinations are possible. The tiles can be turned to any orientation. That's worth mentioning because a "T" shaped combination, for example, would be considered the same combination as an inverted "T" shape as well as a "T" turned on either side (an inverted "L" shape on the other hand would not count as the same combination as a regular "L").
I'll be watching this for a while if further elaboration is required. Thanks for your help!
2 AnswersMathematics8 years agoDoes a handheld calculator use more digits in its calculations than it shows on the screen?
My TI-30XA only shows 10 digits. I sometimes do calculations where all ten spaces are filled up and I was curious as to whether or not there are "invisible" digits that extend beyond the screen that get used in calculations. As an example, when I press the pi button, it shows 3.141592654. Does it perhaps, calculate using 3.14159265358979323846?
1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoHow much to charge for IT labor?
I'm doing some work for a friend of a friend such as setting up a few printers, rerouting/shoring-up ugly cables and a few other oddjob computer-related things. I've never done this sort of thing professionally but I know what I'm doing. How much should I expect to charge per hour for that kind of work?

5 AnswersZoology9 years agoIs distillation the best method for purifying water?
After having done extensive research, I've found that the most popular methods for water purification involve expensive filter systems. I'm really not interested in in buying an expensive system that requires the periodic replacement of filters. I want something that is self sustaining and that leaves me with pure h2o. Distillation seems to be the answer to my request, but does it have any drawbacks?

I mean absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, COMPLETELY homogeneous?
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoWhy did the indigenous American civilizations never progress beyond tribal technology?
I just read today that oldest-known civilization in The Americas dates back to about 3000 BC. After a little research, I discovered the oldest-known civilization in The World dates back to about 4500 BC. Is it just a matter of a progression of time; that since they spent 1500 extra years being nomadic, they lost a competitive edge? Does the state of Indigenous America in the 1500s reflect the state of Europe a millennium and a half beforehand?
3 AnswersHistory10 years agoDoes antenna width matter?
So I know that the length of an antenna determines its frequency. I can understand that bit, but how important is the width of the antenna? If you were to compare one that's hair-thin and another that's the width of a pencil, what would be the difference?
3 AnswersEngineering10 years agoWhat is the origin of the modern power-switch symbol?
I'm specifically talking about the line that is the "on" symbol and the circle that is the "off" symbol. It seems like the circle would better represent "on" since it looks like a closed circuit. My buddy thinks the line represents a 1 or "high" and the circle represents a 0 or "low" as in digital circuitry. Thanks for your info!

I could probably test this myself, but it's dark out right now and I'm curious. I know reflective metal can get hot... i had an old car once with shiny bumpers that'd get hot as the dickens in summertime. Does glass behave in the same way?

My boy turned 1 recently and he's fascinated with anything mechanical (wheels, hinges, containers, keys, doors, etc). My online searches have come up with older kids' toys like electronics and other things a bit beyond the comprehension of a baby. Thanks for your help!

So if you go to the USGS website and upload the earthquake page, how current is the data? Do the seismographic monitors constantly upload data to the site, making it real-time; or is it only current to within a day?

6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoAre there any DSL providers other than Comcast and AT&T in the Miami area?
Comcast added the bandwidth limit a while ago and now AT&T has followed suit... On the internet, I've found several websites that appear to provide DSL, but they all require that I call a number or submit an application--which seems a little fishy. Thanks for your help!

When I'm interested in a thing, anything, I really take my time exploring and learning as much about it as I can. I'm not really satisfied until I truly understand it. I know many people however, who satisfy their interests with a casual glance. Do these people have a name or a descriptive adjective?

It seems like it'd be a pretty small matter to have the program just stop... yet here it is taking up a bunch of memory and doing absolutely nothing.
