  • Moths flying in and around bird cage.?

So, we have a bird cage which has our two cockatiels inside. We've been noticing moths are flying in and around the cage all the time. How should we go about getting rid of the unwanted guests? I've heard that some moths come from the bird seed. How would we know if the seeds have moths? Any ideas on how to get rid of the moths and be safe for the birds would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Catching a pet rat that's on the loose?

I need some ideas on how to catch my pet rat. I posted earlier and she was in the couch. Come to find out, she can get to the floor. View my previous post for other details. I've used her favorite treats and she just keeps going back into the couch. Ideas on how to catch a rat on the loose?

  • Snowden is in the couch! Help?!?

The story is, I gave my mother my pet rat to watch while I changed out her cage. She was sitting on the couch, so I handed her Snowden. To make the story short, I came back to get her 5-10 minutes later and she was gone. She is in the couch. She popped her head out. I don't know how to go about getting her out of the couch. The cousions don't come off. Will she come out on her own?? I tried coaxing her out with cheese. She took it and now has disappeared again. Any suggestions on how to get Snowden out would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. If it matters, she is a grown rat, not a baby. She is 1 year and 2 months old.

    Thanks. :)

  • Can rats eat fried chicken?

I have three rats. Snowden, Sayda, and Slayton. There are all around 3-4 months. I'm trying to give them new foods and mix up their diet. We had fried chicken and I was wondering if they could have a little piece? Also, what are some other foods that they could eat? So far I've gave them carrot, celery, cabbage, lettuce, mango, apple, banana, small piece of cheese, and turkey. They like these foods. What else can I give them?

Thanks for any provided information! :)

    Sincerely,

    Kendra, Snowden, Sayda, and Slayton

  • Rat is possibly pregnant. How can I tell?

2 weeks or so ago, I ended up with another female rat (Snowden). She lives with my other three females (Selena, Sage, and Sega). I have no idea how old she is, possibly 3 weeks. Now, Snowden is a little bit pear shaped. Question is, how and when can I tell if she's pregnant? When can they become pregnant? How many babies can they have? How many days do they stay pregnant? Can she live with her cage mates or would they try and harm the babies? So, in other words what do I do? I've never had a pregnant rat before. Oh and if she is indeed pregnant, it didn't happen here. I'm guessing, if she is, it happened at the pet store. Anyways, any knowledge will help 'cause I have no idea.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. When would I separate the males from the females?

  • Can guinea pigs go outside?

I have two guinea pigs. Snickers and Layla. Snick is 4 years old and Layla is 1 1/2. The question is, can they go outside and be on the grass? Is it okay for them to eat the grass? Also, I have a wire play pen type thing for small animals, so they'd be in that and on the grass. Would this be okay? I've never had them outside before, they are strictly house pets. They strictly get floor time inside. And they would be supervised outside.

Just a little FYI, that is Snick in my display picture thing. =)

    Thanks.

P.S. If it matters, we live in Florida.

  • Why does my rabbit chew his cage bars? What can I do to stop it?

I have a 7 month old rabbit named Chester. The breeder said he's Dutch, but I don't know. Anyways, that's not the problem. Here recently, for the past 2 months or so, he has been chewing on the cage bars. Is this normal behavior? How do I stop it? The chewing gets very annoying and he keeps wetting his bedding from the water bottle. (He chews and the water drips out of the bottle.) He usually does it during the night or early in the morning.

I have two other rabbits (Charlie and Lexi) and they don't chew their cage bars.

He gets a lot of things to chew on and it doesn't seem to help.

Should I try to get him some new chews or what?

    What should I do?

    Thanks.

  • Why do rats sleep during the day and up all night?

I have three pet rats, Selena, Sage, and Sega. I've had them 5 months or so. I've noticed that they sleep most of the day. They keep me awake at night. They play fight and clean each other. I don't know if this is normal or not. I give them plenty of food and water and veggies and fruits. I don't think they are hungry. They also get out of the cage everyday. What can I do to make them sleep at night? And do all rats stay up at night?

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. These are my first rats and I've done research, but didn't find anything about their sleep habits.

  • Female betta with large stomach, may be dying?

I have a female betta, called Ziva. I've had her a good 5-6 months now. She is in a 10 gallon, heated, and filtered tank. She lives with a molly, Sport and another small female betta, Ruby and a algae eater, Rilo. Her stomach is large. I don't know why. Now she is swimming vertically up. I added salt to the tank in case she is stressed. What is wrong with Ziva?

    Thanks in advance.

  • What to do: dogs and rat poisoning?

My grandma has a rat problem. She has two large rats and their babies in her house. She has put down rat poisoning in the bathroom where the rats are. They chewed a hole threw the bottom of the door. My grandma thinks that the rats are coming out to drink the dogs water. So the question is, can the rats bring the poison into the dogs water? Or since they have eaten the poison, have they found their way out?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Can my rats eat green bell peppers?

I have three female rats, Selena, Sage, and Sega. They are a few months old. I was wondering if they can eat green bell peppers? I bought some today for my guinea pigs and I was just wondering if they can have a piece. Is it bad for them?

I looked it up on the internet and it didn't have anything about rats eating green bell peppers.

They like lettuce, carrot, cucumber, apple, banana, and celery.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Do you name your pet fish? If so, what are their names?

This is just a curious question. I just wanted to see who else names their pet fish.

I have pet fish. And everyone of them have names. And I think they all have their very own personalities. Do you think your fish have personalities and do you name them? If so, what are their names?

I'll tell you mine and what kind they are:

-Jethro, Captain, Alfonzo, and Rainy Dane (Male Betta fish)

-Zeva and Zelda (Female Betta fish)

    -Ding and Spok (Mollies)

-Evil Jack and Comet (Jack Dempsey fish)

    -Calypso and Grimm (Oscars)

-Pee Wee and Blitz (Blood Parrots)

    -Puffy (freshwater puffer fish)

    -And Cupid (Pleco (algae eater))

Those are my fishes! What are yours?

P.S. We have lots of tanks, so all the fish are not together.

  • Why is my female rabbit humping her sister?

So the story is, when I got them they were said to be boy and girl, so we separated them to prevent baby bunnies. Then it was told that they where both boys, so we never put them back together from fear of fighting. Now, my friends mom (who raises rabbits) told us that they are both girls. Anyways, they stayed in the cage together for a night and the bigger one started humping the smaller one. Why? Do female rabbits hump the smaller one to show dominance? If it matters they will be a year next month. What should I do about my humping machine? Also, they are separated again 'cause I don't know how to stop it.

    Thanks for any help.

P.S. They are now called Lexy and Charlie.

  • Introducing two male rabbits?

I have 2 male rabbits now. Leo and Levi are close to a year old now. They are in separate cages because at the beginning it was told to us that they where boy and girl, so we didn't want baby bunnies. Anyways, I now want to get a buddy for them. Of course it will be another male. So how hard is it to introduce none brother rabbits? Also, what should I do to introduce them? Is it anything like introducing guinea pigs?

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. If it matters, I believe the little rabbit is about 8 week or so and is eating pellets.

  • How to get rid of unwanted snails?

Hello. I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 female betta fish (Zeva and Zelda) and 2 Molly fish (Ding and Spock). The tank is heated and filtered. Just yesterday at their feed time I noticed about 10 or so snails in the tank. How do I get rid of them without harming my fish? Is there any kind of fish that would be compatible with the fish I already have and would get rid of the snails? Would a puffer fish be compatible with the bettas and mollies? My mom has 2 puffers in her huge tank and it's freshwater as well. Puffy and Duffy (yes the puffers) live with 2 oscars, 2 Jack Dempsey fish, 2 blood parrots, and a pleco. And they are fine with them, so would a puffer work for my snail problem?

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. I know the tank needs to be bigger, so don't tell me that. Thanks.

  • Hurt rat! What should I do to help her?

I have a 5 week old rat, named Selena. Her tail is swollen at the base of the tail and she is dragging her back foot. My dog tried to eat her when I wasn't home, but thankful she got away. The dog did kill her playmate though. (RIP Stanley) Don't call me a bad owner or tell me I shouldn't have a rat. Cause I'm not a bad owner, it was just a tragic case of the dog being bad. But what should I do about her foot and tail? We but neosporin on her tail. And there's no vets open. Plus, I don't even know if there's an exotic vet around here.

Thanks in advance and keep the negative comments to yourself.

P.S. I heard they need friend(s), so I got her a playmate yesterday, named Sage. Sage is bringing her out of the "dumps" or so it seems like. She seems to be doing better and moving around more.

  • Getting another ratty! I need some name ideas!?

The story is, I now have a ratty who is black and white, her name is Selena. Of course, I had her a friend, but he tragically died. (RIP Stanley) Now I want to get Selena a friend because I know that they like having friend(s). The new ratty is going to be either all tan or brown and white and a female.

I'm thinking of Sage, but I don't know. I also am thinking of Sabella or Sega. I just can't decide which to name her. Which name do you like best? If you have any S names (preferably) then feel free to add them. If you have any other cute ratty names then you can add them as well.

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. Don't add big long lists off of websites cause I don't want to read all of them. Thanks.

  • What human foods can rats eat?

I've asked a lot of questions in the past couple of days about my ratties. I just want them to have the best life as possible. Now, I need to know what human foods are okay for them to eat? I've heard that they can eat almost any human food that we eat, but I just need to know which kinds of food. They are a month old if that matters.

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. If you could provide a website of good and bad foods, that'd be greatly appreciated.

  • What should a month old rat eat? And other rat questions?

A few days ago, I got Stanley and Sheba. Yes, I know separate them. I don't need to be told again. I just have a few more questions that I didn't add to the other question that I posted.

What kind of veggies/fruits can they eat?

Is it really okay for them to eat meats?

If so how do I prepare that for them?

What sort of cage should I get? (please provide website or describe)

Why do they love sitting on my shoulder?

    Thanks in advance rat lovers.

  • Rat Questions? (New rat owner here! =))?

Yesterday I got Stanley and Selena! They are adorable. I never really like rats, but now I do. Since I'm new at this and going by what the pet store told me, I need some advice/answered questions from experienced rat people. Here it goes.

    1. What kind of foods should they be eating? (The pet store said they are a month old)

    2. Since they are a month, are they considered rats or mice?

    3. What kind of bedding? (I'm using Aspen at the moment.)

    4. Are hanging water bottles okay for them?

    5. What kind of cage should they be in? (They are in a 10 gallon tank at the moment.)

    6. Can they roll around in a hamster ball?

    7. Can they have a wheel in the cage for exercise?

    8. How often should they be handled?

    9. Can they eat cheese? (I've always seen the mice on t.v. eating cheese.)

    10. How long can rats live for in captivity? And how big will they get?

Thanks for all the help rat lovers!
