(On the basis that the Olympics gave Russia international credibility that makes it less likely other countries will act to treat it as a rogue state.)

1 AnswerBooks & Authors7 years agoGrowing fingernails for bass guitar?
My old guitar tutor (who plays normal guitar but was teaching me bass) had long fingernails on his plucking hand, which he'd grown to get a specific sound when he played (he was working on some folksy style).
My fingernails happen to be getting a bit on the long side, and I thought rather than cut them, I might see what effect it has on my bass-playing.
Are long finger nails used by bass guitarists ever / for any style of music, or would I just be a weirdo?

2 AnswersEtiquette8 years agoHow do hens express happiness / sadness?
We have recently acquired an injured chicken who we are coaxing back to health. In our efforts to be good owners, we'd like to recognise when the hen is happy and when it's unhappy.
How do hens typically express happiness / unhappiness?
What kind of things (other than food) would make her happy? She doesn't seem to like shows of affection but seems to be content being around us.
2 AnswersOther - Pets8 years agoWoodwork - Varnish first then glue, or glue first then varnish?
I'm doing the classic lazy man's DIY project, making a wooden spice rack.
I'm not sure whether to glue everything together then varnish it (so the surfaces glued together don't get varnished) or to varnish first then glue it, so the glue might not hold so tight.
Is there a right answer?
4 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)8 years agoLeg / hip strain - taking ages to recover?
2 weeks ago I hurt the front of my hip playing basketball (I think from a collision). I thought it would be a quick recovery, but for 2 weeks it's been sore and I've had a lot of pain in the muscle when lifting my foot up from the ground.
Any idea why it's taking so long to sort itself out?
2 AnswersInjuries8 years agoWuthering Heights: How do you feel about Heathcliffe?
Before I read the book, I had the impression that women saw Heathcliffe as a romantic hero / fantasy figure.
When I read the book he seemed like a total b*****d.
What do you women really think of him?
Was he just the first 'bad boy'?
3 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoPlaying low post with a height disadvantage?
I play on a short basketball team, and often have to fill in at the low post (I prefer small forward).
We usually come up against close zone defenses, so there are usually a couple of defenders around me.
I've been pretty ineffective playing low post and need to create space better and find decent shots more.
Any advice how?
2 AnswersBasketball8 years agoHow to play an effective low post game?
I've recently joined a (generally short-ish) basketball league.
I'm slightly taller than average always used to play small forward, but my team often want me to play low post (due to lack of height on our team).
Today I was pretty ineffective in offense, being at a height disadvantage, anxious about 3 second violations, and playing against a tight 2-3 zone that meant even if I beat my man I still ran into their center.
How do I go about playing a more effective low post offensive game?
1 AnswerBasketball8 years agoHow to clean my guitar up while the strings are off?
I'm cleaning my bass strings by soaking them in methylated spirits overnight.
While they're off, I'd like to clean up my fretboard and do any other maintenance that's easier with the strings off.
What should I be looking to do?
5 AnswersOther - Music8 years agoI've started comfort eating..?
I've never really done comfort-eating before and I don't like the idea.
But I've started recently, chocolate and ice-cream. I've been having a hard time and feeling a bit emo.
What can I do instead of comfort-eating?

I busted both my thumbs when I was younger and now when I give my girlfriend a shoulder massage (usually working out the muscle knots with my thumbs), they start to get very sore very quickly.

3 AnswersOther - Health & Beauty8 years agoHas Raheem Sterling been short changed?
He's signed for £30k a week, for 5 years.
Given his potential and his performances this season, and considering what his team mates are likely to be on, should he be getting more?
Or is £30k about right for him?
(Obviously most of us would be very happy with that wage, but lets think relative to other footballers.)
