  • Self funding a charity shop and the taxman!?

    Hi

Hopefully someone can give me some advise on this unusual question.

I am researching the possibility of opening a charity shop initially funded by myself to kickstart the project. It will mean personally investing over £10,000 and I will have to give up my current job to manage and run the business. For the first few weeks I will not take a wage and then I will pay myself the minimum wage. I will only start to recoup the initial £10,000 investment when funds allow [happy to wait two years]. I will be keeping a record of all transactions and will hire an accountant to manage the books. I want to keep the option of switching charities in the future. I have a local Cancer charity in mind and will approach them when I am cleared up any potential issues.

    My question is:

Will the tax man consider the business to be a charity and hence I will get preferential business rates and be able to ask customers to gift aid?

I have a simple video cable splitter which works fine outputting from a PC computer to a CRT monitor and a school projector. When I connect an LCD screen to replace the older CRT display[need the space] it will only display on the projector. I have to disconnect the projector connection to get the LCD screen to work. I have changed screen resolutions and frequency rates to no avail! Anyone any ideas how I can get a display on the projector and the LCD?

  • Win XP Video display issue - currently on 4-bit colours?

I have an XP system with a Galaxy fx5500 AGP video card. Recently it has dropped to displaying only a 4-bit colour display, which is awful. Windows Device Manager reports that the card is working properly, yet Display Properties will not allow be to change the settings. Anyone any ideas why?

  • Front door barrel lock problem?

When the door is open, I can engage the levers and turn the key. When I try the same with the door closed, the levers engage OK but the key does not turn. I have replaced the lock and checked that nothing on the door frame is blocking the lock but still no joy. Anyone any ideas on what could be wrong?

  • Flexible hose tap connectors?

I have been checking through a ScrewFix catalogue to buy flexible hose tap connectors for a sink and bath. The catalogue states a Dia of 15mm[which I think is the copper pipe diameter] a BSP of half or three quarter inch and a bore of 10 or 13 mm[ which I guess is the internal diameter of the hose]. What is the BSP and which do I choose?

  • Disabling car alarm on Nissan Primera?

I want to open and close the car manually as the electronic press and open key function is badly worn. If I open the door with the key in the lock the alarm kicks off. Can the alarm be easily switched off or this particular function reset?

  • Can anyone help with how to remove the parking light bulb from an X reg Nissan Primera?

I managed to replace a copule of other bulbs OK, but am at a loss to know how to get this fitment out. It has the two wires going into the back of a white nylon fitment which slots inside a black fitment.

  • Who are the worst 'blockers' and should Y!A withdraw this option?

I have just been blocked by 'little weed' and as a search for questions: under 'little weed' shows others have had issues. If people cannot stand criticism, why are they on this site? The whole point is to debate views, not exclude.
