Our daughter s wedding is in April and the invites have begun hitting the mailboxes. Not even 24 hours later, there are major issues...

My wife and I are funding the entire wedding. I opened our invite and immediately noticed the groom s parents were not on the invite. My daughter designed the invitation package and we never saw a preview of it and honestly forgot to ask for it. I feel horrible and wondering if that is reasonable concern. Would I be wrong to have the invite page reprinted with their names and sent out?

Next, we gave our daughter a guest list with family and close friends. We decided that for our friends, we would not invite their children. One of my close friends passed away in July. (My daughter knew him and the family well.) She decided to extend the invitation to the wife (Martha, not real name) and her kids. Other than family, these are the only kids that were invited.

Another good friend of ours, who is also friends with Martha s family, said they was hurt and offended that we didn t invite her kids (17 & 19) but did invite Martha s kids, and says something dubious is going on. I tried to explain that Martha was an exception (due to the circumstances) but that none of the other friends kids are coming. Didn t matter.

My stomach is in knots and haven t been able to eat all day. I feel terrible that she feels that way, but I don t think we are wrong here. No matter how much I tried to explain, she wouldn t hear it.

What to do?

My son-in-law for some reason likes to have his 1yr old daughter sleep completely underneath his shirt against his body. I've told him that's dangerous (and to me a little weird) but he continues to do it. I believe that exposes the child to too much CO - is this true?

She got two left turn red light violations within days of each other in the first week of October. I took away her license and she didn't drive until Jan 1. We went to court last week and the tickets will total about $900. She'll go to traffic school for one of them. She'll pay/work off some of that but she doesn't work because she's a full-time student.

She got a speeding ticket Monday for doing 60 in a 45. She swears she was only doing between 50 and 55 but acknowledges that was still speeding.

She goes to two high schools (one is a medical magnet school) then goes to the ER for medical work experience. She has a 3.9gpa and turns 18 in Feb.

I'm not going to let her drive until we go to court on this ticket (March) and then figure out what to do at that time. It's a burden on us to drive her to all three locations each day but we'll do it. My wife wants to get rid of the car (a new spare car) and not ever let her drive our cars again. (Seriously, she's like that.) I think that's too harsh and other than making her pay for her own insurance, not sure what else should be done.

Any suggestions?

I would like to get the case information (all facts presented by both sides) for a criminal case in LA County, CA. I have the case number, date, defendant's names, dob, etc. I'd like to know what evidence the state presented against the accused. Can I get this info? (Yes, I'm willing to pay a small fee for it.)

I just had an engineer draw up plans for my patio cover/deck and he calls out the use of simpson pc66 on 6x6 posts with 6x knee bracing. The bracing will really kill the trim work I have planned for it. So, can the PC66 hardware be replaced with CC66 hardware to eliminate the need for the bracing?

(Of course, I'd have to ask the engineer to redraw using that hardware, just wanted to know if it's possible.) I've asked him if we can eliminate the bracing, but he said not without using steel posts. I get the feeling the engineer just wanted to get the work done quickly and doesn't want to calculate the values with the new hardware.

This is a SoCal property so earthquake codes must be met.

I've got a program that can be linked either statically or dynamically. Dynamic linking reduces the executable module size to about 1mb where statically linked it is about 13mb.

The system is an HP-UX 11i UNIX box and has 12gb ram. There could be about 200 concurrent users of the program, but typically less than 75.

In some preliminary testing, the runtimes of static and dynamic linking ar about the same with the static module having a slightly better time (< 0.5 seconds).

So given the large amount of system RAM and the caching of frequently used files, does it really matter that the load module is 13mb vs. 1mb?

What would you do?

I have a small 12 foot alum fishing boat with a small sonar and a 38# thrust trolling motor. I also have a 1yr old car battery (from a totalled car) available for use.

I know the car battery isn't a marine battery and that there's a reason to use marine over auto batteries for boats, but I won't hurt anything by using the car battery in the boat, will I? (Other than shortening the eventual life of the car battery.)

I've got Cisco VPN v.4.6.04 and a D-Link DI-525 wireless router. The router is working fine and has been for over a year. My Cisco connection also has been working fine for quite some time.

Yesterday, after doing some tweeking with DRTCP, really just changing th MTU to 1500, every time I start the Cisco VPN my router would reboot about a minute afterwards. I change the MTU settings back but that doesn't seem to change anything - the router still reboots.

I've turned on logging on the router but it doesn't show anything special.

I reinstalled Cisco today and will try the connection later tonight, but has anyone else encountered something similar? Is there some other place (log file) I can see what's going on?

my dad is having problems with pogo.com after installing ie7.com. I think he was "forced" to install it from msn, but don't know for sure.

What happens is that once he gets into pogo, and goes to a bridge table, he's missing the bottom portion of the game page. Since it's a java app, he can't change the size of the window. I've had him change his resolution but that doesn't help - just makes it harder for him to read. We've made sure he's using the latest java as well.

He's in another state so I can't go over and see for myself. Anyone have a clue on how to fix? I don't want to uninstall IE7 unless there are no other options.

My son threw a rock at our front door and it made a hole through the exterior metal. (The hole doesn't go through the door, just to the inside material.) I need to fill the hole and then paint the door. What is the best material to fill/patch the hole with and then how should I treat the door and paint it?
