Martell
Hi! I worked as teacher (5 yrs) and therapist (21 yrs) with troubled adolescents in treatment facilities. Oh, also worked for the old NSA (Amed Forces Security Agency, in D.C. breaking low eschelon Viet Kong codes (in pre-computer days.) Great life! Now have a super Daugher, Son-in-law and three Darling Grandchldren! I attend "Seniors Active In Learning" and LOVE the writing classes--really love them all! Love to get together with friends, too.--Life is good! ---Oh! And I had lived in Japan for a year in l955. I learned to speak enough Japanese, and to read both Hiragana and Katakana, to travel over Kyushu by myself. LOVED the country and meeting the people!
What is the name of "Divine Winds" in Japanese?
in 1281 ?, Korean war ships were about to attack Japan at Hakata Bay. The monks prayed, and terrible typhoons struck and destroyed the fleet. They called it "Divine Winds" and WWII Japanese suicide pilots called themselves "_________", Divine Winds.

2 AnswersOther - Arts & Humanities1 decade agoHas anyone played "Rise table, Rise"?
I don't know what catagory this should be in--so put it here as it sure "played" with my mind! As a teenager, my family and freinds played this. Set up a light folding card table; four people stand around it, placing our hands softly, flat on the surface of the table. Then chant "Rise table, rise" over and over again. Suddenly it started raising up on two legs! No one was pushing down on any side, as we soon were able to move our hands on the "up" side and it still continued to tap out answers to our questions--one tap, yes; two taps, no. The answers were amazingly accurate and later, only one person could remain in contact with the table. This went on all evening, and as if it were tired, it finally started "tap-walking" it's way to the front door and STOPPED for the evening. We all were so spooked my folks never tried it again. I've never asked friends to try it, so I never have since that. If you've experienced this, please write--or if you have some educated guesses...
8 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoDo you think that the US will ever put citizens, both naturalized and by birth, in concentration camps again?
Such as Manzanar after Pearl Harbor when we arrested people of Japanese ancestry, citizens as well as those legally in the US, and put them in camps in the desert for years? Also illegally took their homes and property.----I don't know if they ever got resitution.
2 AnswersImmigration1 decade agoI LOVE dogs, but inherited a Siamese cat. Would he get along with a Greyhound? Vice vers?
I LOVE dogs! But I had to take my Grandson's Siamese neutered male--about 10 yrs old--(the CAT, that is!) because the new step-Dad is very allergic. My little poodle lived to be about 15 and I CRAVE a dog again!! I live in a 1-bd rm, but am very active. I'd walk and take him/her out with me EVERYWHERE! I LOVE their company. Plse don't tell me to get a husband--I'm 0-for-2 and not in for another one at 77! ")
I've had big dogs and little--loved a Weimaraner and German Shepard. I've heard that Greyhounds are "45 mph Couch Potatoes". That would work great in an apt.

1 AnswerHistory1 decade agoKyushu, Japan, has large hunter spiders the size of a hand. They usually live in houses. What do they eat?
These do not build webs, and seem non-aggressive to humans.
5 AnswersZoology1 decade agoHave you experienced what Jung calls an "archetypal" happening?
Many people ascribe these to being coincidences. F. David Peat's "Synchronicity--The Bridge Between Matter and Mind" says otherwise. I agree. How about you?

12 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoWhen was "kami kazi" first signifiant in world history?
This phrase is a familiar one to Americans, but the original "kami kazi" was not an attack, but a rescue. When was that and what was it?
4 AnswersHistory1 decade agoWas it Pres. McKinnley who "ordered" the slaughter of the buffalo to eliminate Indians' primary food source?
If so--it was poetic justice--as he was assassinated in Buffalo, NY, in 1901.
3 AnswersHistory1 decade agoCan't find Q re opposite of "succomb"?
Martell, here again. I answered it once, but lost the Q and I have some more: staunch, obstinant, defiant, struggle, stance, stand combat, steel, reinforce, overcome, create, win.
2 AnswersHistory1 decade agoI keep losing the Questioner before I can answer! Re "hill and toe". Do you mean "heel & toe"? Stick shift?
Stick shifts can stall--particularly when you're stopped at the top of a steep hill. Then you have "heel" the brake, while your toe regulates the gas peddle! I used to drive an MGTF around San Francisco and Berkeley in '55 & '56. I got pretty good at it--but it always scared me! I entered "The Ladies' Race" at Laguna Seca one yr--scared myself silly at the top of a steep winding climb with a sheer drop on the outside of the sharp turn down. But it was all GREAT FUN!!
(Disregard, if this isn't what you meant. I have no idea WHAT "hill & toe" is.
1 AnswerSafety1 decade agoHelp! I lost the Q re Japan on which techtonic plate! Got the answer, but can't find the Q again!!?
Someone asked what Techtonic Plate Japan was on. Hokkaido, and the northern part of Honshu are on the N. American Plate; the lower part of Honshu and Kyushu Island are on the Eurasian Plate!
Please help me find the Question re this so I can get my A in! ")
