  • Microsoft Product Activation Key-- way to find if unused?

I have Microsoft WOrks Suite 2002 with its product key. I don't THINK I have used it, but am not sure. I now have a Mac and can't install it to check. Is there a way to find out if the key is unused before selling it?

  • Should I get an XBOX 360 on Black Friday?

$139 for Black Friday. Can I do better used? Is the next version of XBOX coming out soon and driving down the price further? Is it safe to buy refurbished instead?

  • What device for internet tv?

I want a device that will bring both netflix and hulu to my TV. I also want the ability to stream video from online (like ESPN3) if possible. What device should I get? I also have an iPad2 and a MacBook Pro, though unless the new mirroring features in iOS5 change things, AirPlay will not help me here if I want to use hulu.

ie, do they qualify for the Fair Use clause rather than violating copyright?

  • In the UK, are sub-lieutenants ever just called "lieutenant?"?

In the US, 2LTs are often called LTs... does the same apply in the UK?

  • Can an alternate font be used in a manuscript?

Specifically, using a font like courier (rest of text is times new roman) if a character is reading a sign or a computer display, etc. Putting it in all-caps is distracting, but I want a way to make it different while still being acceptable for a publisher.

  • Can I use first-name references in journalism?

I am writing a Profile story for a journalism class, and the subject's wife is a secondary source. To prevent confusion between the two, can my story refer to them by first names instead of last names, when attributing quotes?

  • is joining Mortar Board Honor Society worthwhile?

Is it just another "honorary" college group, or does it actually make an impact on a resume, either for employment or grad school?

  • What will future "space men" in the military be called?

E-1 in the Airforce is "Airman" and E-1 in the Navy is "Seaman."

"Spaceman" sounds really lame to me... either from an educated guess or your own preference of an alternative, what generic term could space-bound military forces be called by?

For the context... think along the lines of if Earth's version of Battlestar Gallactica somehow came to exist, and we needed a generic name for general space-bound military members.

  • Is an alternate font ok at times for a novel Manuscript?

For instance, if a character sees a sign, is it ok to use a different font when displaying the sign's text?

(From the perspective of not annoying a potential publisher or agent)

  • What language was spoken between Vikings and Byzantines and Arabs?

And what is the earliest interaction between the Vikings and either group of people?

  • Did the Vikings have any interaction with Africa or the Middle East?

Especially NW Africa, or any Islamic region, before the rest of Western Europe surpassed the Vikings in nautical or militaristic presence. I also need to know how they communicated (spoke a common language?) Please supply approximate dates if possible!

  • How can I do this Excel Formula?

I have listed in A19: =SUM(A15:A16) (it ends up being 3)

I have listed in D19: =SUM(D15:D16) (it ends up being 205)

    I have listed elsewhere: =SUM(A19-D19)

Rather than showing the sum of A19-D19-- minus 202-- it shows "######."

What I am trying to do is show the sum of two cells, when that sum is negative, but doing the above formula is only working for me when the sum is positive. What formula do I need to use?

  • What is it called when you "bend space"?

If you are at point A, and you want to go to point B, and somehow you bend space so that A and B overlap?

Also, is the idea of teleportation based off of this theory, or is that something entirely different?

  • which sci fi show has the best space travel from a physics point of view?

Only interested in shows that use space travel between different planetary systems... so sadly, no Firefly.

    Battlestar Gallactica-- "Jumping"

Star Trek-- Warp Speed- Bending space relative to your position

    StarWars-- Hyperspeed

    Stargate-- Wormholes

Babylon 5-- Going into Hyperspace (different dimension, uses wormhole-like gates to get in and out)

Any other good ones you know of

  • Are there charities/programs that can temporarily help a Veteran with rent issues?

I am on the GI Bill, but because of the ridiculous pace of the VA, am still waiting for the monthly payments (applied in September), and even with jobs and several thousand in savings originally, I only have $100 to use towards next month's rent.

I am not looking for some way to skate the system... I am just looking for an organization that can help me (even with a small-interest loan) until I start receiving my GI Payments.

  • If a space shuttle changes direction, will unharnessed astronauts move with it?

If the astronaut is unharnessed, and the space shuttle suddenly changes direction, do they move with the shuttle in the same way that an object floating in a car is carried forward by the car's movement?
