  • Question about polling centers?

The last time I voted I lived at a different address. (4 years ago).. I have since moved and had my address changed on my licence, which puts me in a different voting spot. Do i need to fill anything out to change my polling place? Or do I just go to my polling place for my new address? I am in Oklahoma if that helps.

    Thanks

  • What political party do you associate yourself with?

If none, which political ideologies? Have you taken any economics courses?

I would like to know what political party you associate yourself with (if you do) and whether or not you have ever taken an economics class. Just curious.

  • Hypothetical scenario....how do you feel about it?

    Scenario 1

You are walking down the street, when a beggar (Sam Slime) jumps out from behind some bushes and pulls out a gun. He demands: "Your money or your life!!!" you give them the $50 in your wallet. As he runs away , he turns a corner where a policeman captures Sam the mugger. He is charged with stealing, convicted at trial and sentenced to prison. Sam is clearly recognized as a criminal and you are the victim.

    Scenario 2

Now suppose Sam Slime changes tactics. He votes for a political candidate who promises to raise your taxes by $50 and transfer the money to Sam. The political candidate claims that because Sam is "disadvantaged" and "In need," he is entitled to the transfer of your income. Once elected, e candidate does raise your taxes by $50 to give to Sam Slime. You protest by refusing to pay your taxes. The IRS denounces you for denying Sam income that he is entitled to. The IRS declares you a criminal and you are charged with tax evasion, convicted at trial, and sentenced to prison. Now you are the criminal , and Sam Slims is your victim.

Do you think that the two scenarios are morally different? Or is Sam justified in his actions in the second scenario?

  • Overall, is the standard of living of the average American higher today than it was, say, 30 years ago?

I asked a set of questions not to long ago that contained this same question and i got some very surprising answers! I had a lot of No's. I cant believe that people really believe we have a lower standard of living than 30 yrs ago!

Here are a few answers that i did get from that question that i found ridiculous!

    1) -absolutely not. The percentage of Americans at poverty level or below has increased every decade in the past 30 years.

MY RESPONSE: I don't know if it actually has increased or not but think of the people in poverty 30 years ago, and then compare of the people in poverty today. Who do you think has it better? Poor Americans today have access to so many goods that poor people 30 years ago didn't like televisions, or cars. Poor people today are better housed, better fed. Try to tell me that is not true.

2)no 30 years ago the average mortgage was 15,000 for a 3 bedroom home

MY RESPONSE: Clearly this person is uneducated. 30 years ago everything was cheaper. Everyone also made less money. Not to mention inflation.

3)the standard of living is 40% lower for the average American than it was 30 years ago

MY RESPONSE: I need a source to back up this statistic.. I just don't believe it.

and another thing i could mention is the mobility of people in poverty. Being poor for most people is a life stage (young, unskilled and inexperienced) or temporary condition (you've lost a job or have gone through some type of emergency.). Except for someone with a major disability, most people are in poverty because of choices. Choices have consequences.

  • I am going to write a research paper in my Public Policy Analysis class...?

Im having a hard time coming up with an INTERESTING topic. Ive been writing my own paper on social security on my own time for a while, but its not that interesting, and i want something that will make my paper stand out. I can write fairly well. And im not asking anybody to do my homework for me, I am just wondering if you people out there have an interesting topic i might be able to use. And I have to make the topic kind of specific, so it cant just be "social security" because thats too broad.

any ideas or help would be lovely :)

My minor is in Economics, and i love it, so anything to do with economics is great.
