  • Hot Tub just shut off and won't turn back on?

We just moved into our new home which had a hot tub on the back patio. It had the jets running off a timer I guess a couple times a day I guess to circulate the water.

Last night we decided to use it for our first time, I have never owned or operated a hot tub before, so we just flipped some switches turned some dials and then it was running and bubbling.

*I turned the dial a bunch, I guess I thought it adjusted the heater or something....

*Inside the equipment area there is an outlet so I plugged in mini fridge and a lamp... We were all having a great time and an hour later it all came to a stop when the light, and the fridge and the spa just shut off.

Today with a clearer head I realize I shouldn't have plugged all that stuff into one circuit.

    Hot Tub info:

1.) I have no idea how old it is, nor even how to determine the age of the spa.

2.) It is plugged into a regular 110v outdoor outlet. -NO GFCI on the outdoor outlet.

3.) The electrical section in the manual states:

    110 Volt, 20 Amp, 60 Hz, 3 Wire.

1 Hots. #12 AWG (No clue what that means.)

    1 Neutral. #12 AWG

    1 Ground. #12 AWG

    #8 Bonding required.

    Troubleshooting thus far:

1.) It is plugged in. I have unplugged it and plugged it back in and heard a CLICK when I plugged back in.

2.) The breaker isn't tripped, because the little pool filter continues to run off that line, and I checked the breaker box, and we used the same outlet to unscrew some panels off the tub poking around looking for hints. So, it isn't that.

3.) If there is it's own GFCI it is completely hidden somewhere? (The reason we took off the panels.)

4.) Pushed the reset high limit button a few times.

5.) Pushed the GFCI on that interior outlet behind the panel that I stupidly plugged in all the crap into.

That is 5 of the 7 suggested troubleshoot tips.

    The last two say:

System fuse blown (Located inside of controller.) Of course we opened that, seen wires and 12 or so fuses but have no clue... Did not observe a breaker or GFCI inside there either.

    &

Controller not plugged in. Plugged into what, how would it unplug?

I went to the parts guy at the pool store and he said to go directly to Spa Manufacturers, Inc, because it is their machine and that they are great and all that jazz, not that he wanted to refer me to someone else he just thought since they are close bye and they are good at what they do to go there first.

I did go but the parts guy was gone for the day.

    So, any thoughts?

  • Apartment building 2 water heaters in parallel?

A few weeks ago I was addressing some plumbing issues in my apartment. I had to shut off the hot and cold for my unit while doing so.

New tenants moved in upstairs and apparently they too were addressing some plumbing issues last week and they turned off our water during this time.

The other day I was in the basement and noted the work that they had done, ran some red tube off the hot water line.

Laying in bed that night I remembered shutting off that line while doing my own work and got to thinking they may have routed my hot water into their bathroom.

So, I went downstairs this morning to take a look around and follow the pipes and noticed that their hot water line out of the water heater joins with ours via a T like intersection, photo research online indicates the heaters are running in parallel.

I understand the pros of doing such in a single family home but this being a 2 family apartment leads me to believe that we are somehow splitting the gas cost on the usage of hot water if running in parallel in which I do not think is fair since they have more occupants.

Do you plumbers have reason to believe this is parallel setup, would you ever consider doing this in a two family? Am I gonna end up flipping the bill for the excess usage?

  • Refinishing Walnut Furniture Country/Antique Style?

I recently inherited some dark walnut furniture that had belonged to my grandfather ages ago.

There is a cabinet with hutch top, dinning room table with "club like" feet, they aren't claws more like paws with mittens on them. The chairs have spindles on the backs and then some gold hand painted pine cones or something on them that is just awful.

Anyhow, I want to go light/medium country blue with them. I was thinking of doing the legs of the table and leaving the top walnut, same thing with the cabinet, I was thinking of leaving the top walnut and the visible inside/back of the hutch top walnut.

But the catch is, the walnut is rather dark and would probably clash pretty bad. Is there a way of lightening up the walnut a bit? Otherwise I fear only a country black look will work and I really don't want dark furniture, I am not opposed to another color but have no interest in white.

    What are your thoughts?

  • Broken steel pipe behind the wall, Help!?

This is a very old house.

I found this morning the old plastic supply line under the bathroom sink was leaking. Upon further inspection it appeared the drain too had a leak and looked like it had been puttied 50 times, and of course the faucet itself had a little drip going on for the past week or so.

So, I headed out, bought a new vanity and sink combo on the cheap, and a new faucet.

Now here is the problem, in unscrewing the old water supply line tube in order to replace it, the old nasty steel pipe broke just behind the wall.

The vanity is in, the sink is siliconed on.

Now exactly what am I supposed to do?

Can I use some sort of coupler?

  • Florida Vacation Pay Laws?

Due to family reasons I was forced to relocate, in doing so I had to resign from my position.

I had been with the company for 2 1/2 years the office itself for 5 total, and was considered their best employee. I knew they would be at a loss so as soon as I knew of the relocation I gave them nearly 6 weeks notice.

I resigned. I wasn't terminated, if terminated unpaid vacation needs to be paid.

I inquired three times on paying me on my final sales and remaining vacation. They blew me off.

I cannot seem to find if there is a law that protects me here. If I wasn't struggling I would let if go. If only they had shown me the same respect as I did them.

  • Can I make Pate A Choux Paste In the Microwave?

I make it on the stove top. Melt butter, add water, salt and then mix in flour until globby and cool add eggs in order to make paste. This is standard.

But why the stove top? What is that doing?

Somewhat cooking the flour I guess, but only somewhat.

So, I just about used all my butter in cookies last night and will not be running out to buy some "just to see" right this second.

But can you see any reason as to why it cannot be made in the microwave? I guess to melt butter and heat water in the microwave, then adding flour until absorbed. And as usual cool then add eggs.

-I ask for a reason, it is not that I am lazy.

A bakery I may be working at does not have a stove top and cannot get one unless they install a $5,000 sprinkler system.

But who doesn't love eclairs and cream puffs at a bakery?

  • 220 Outlet not working...?

I just moved into a new apartment and went to plug in my drier and get nothing.

I used the little volt reader to determine there was nothing happening in the plug. It is a cheap little thing, it doesn't read the volts it just lights up and beeps when it hits a hot line.

I follow the outlet to a wacky old mad scientist looking fuse box that holds only 2 shell casing looking fuses. Actually, its one box with wires taped into it and then they run into the next little box that has a arm on the side which disengages the prongs from fuses. I replaced these expensive little fuses and lifted the lever back up and still nothing.

You can follow the line to the back of the breaker boxes and see nothing more, however I have determined that this line runs off the other apartments breaker box by finding the word DRIER in their box and not my own. Nothing in their box nothing is tripped and just in case all has been flipped.

-I have to figure this out because my landlord is a flake who makes empty promises, is always broke until I pay my rent and just had an auto accident therefore will not be going into the basement for a long while. I don't have the $ to pay an electrician right now or I would and deduct it from my rent.

So, in the meantime I have been using this other drier I found in the corner of the basement that runs on a regular line but takes all day to dry anything, and I am sure will leave me with a nice electric bill next month.

I really need some advice here as what to do, try, or fix next.

If anyone knows anything about 220 electrical, mad scientist fuse boxes with shell casing fuses that lead into breaker boxes please advise what steps to follow next.

  • What should be a cut and dry filing of custody, isn't. Any advice?

    From the top.

My little 14 yr old sister in law was removed from her mother 5 years ago by the State of Tennessee, and all the mothers rights were terminated. The father is "unknown".

She remained in foster care until their aunt and uncle were granted full custody by the State of Tenn while they resided in Florida.

They have full custody and have since relocated to Michigan.

Now, their aunt has fallen quite ill and neither are working. It is no longer possible for two unemployed, unhealthy, 50 some odd year olds to financially support nor keep up with a 14 year old girl at this time.

They have notarized statements that full custody is to due to us and she is now living with us in our home. We went to the court house as instructed by family and were basically told no can do, good luck and try the guardianship route.

All parties are in agreement, including the 14 year old, and it is clearly what is in best interest of the child.

Family court clerk will not get us a court date for 6 months since she is not from NY State. Guardianship clerk said that we will likely have to go to court and may get denied, but on what basis?

These court clerks keep suggesting an attorney, how and why makes this so difficult? Multi-States?

I understand they need proof that the mothers rights were legally terminated. But other than that and some background checks what is the big deal?

    Why and attorney?

We need to get her enrolled in school which starts in 1 month and get her medical switched over as she is on daily meds.

    Any advice?

  • Cell phones and wifi?

Is there a way to connect to the internet with your phone at a wifi hotspot without having to pay for the data through your cell phone carrier? There has to be, why would someone pay for data usage or bulky plans when they could just use a wireless connection when available? Like at home, the office, or any other hotspot.

  • Red Ear Slider Laying Eggs?

This morning I watched a huge red ear slider climb out of the pond behind my office, dig a hole and laid eggs, buried them and left.-it wasn't as quick as it sounds she was there for a couple hours.

Was great to watch but one problem, the lawn mower man drives a giant 400lb super mower and I am sure he will be here tomorrow to crush them into oblivion. So, they have to be taken out and incubated. I read all about it how to pick them up, put a dot on the top and feel confident. Shoot I already have a home for these eggs, people who will release them people who will keep them.

But my question is this, what are the odds they are fertile?

  • Extreme menstrual cramping any time, all the time?

I don't get it, I need help here. Chime in with whatever you may know.

For about 9 months I have been going through this extreme cramping and upset stomach (irregular and always diarrhea). The cramps just come on out of nowhere, like the worst menstrual cramping ever but whenever they want. (I don’t typically get menstrual cramps during my period either.) It will start in the lower front abdomen, then it move up to the back to the ovaries and around the side by the kidneys, and wraps up to the upper abdomen until I am moaning in pain, 12-15 minutes later they are gone, they come during stress, excitement (good, bad, and sexual) now nightly.

I thought it was my kidneys, so I went to the Dr, no blood in stool yada yada yada he thought it was my ovaries, so he sent me to the obgyn, everything seemed normal, yada yada yada, she sent me to the gastroenterologist, they did two ultrasounds, I have a little cyst on my ovary, and my lower GI looked ok, so no biggy I guess, they never said anything else about it. She sends me to do a colonoscopy this Monday, I do the worst prep in my life, then they come out and say, little polyp, no biggy but they sent it for testing and whatever.

I just hurt now after that evil prep, I have no appetite, I can't BM (sh*) and my upper and lower abdomen aches and feels like it has pins and needles in it, my lower back is numb to my hips, I keep getting dizzy like my body is fighting an infection, I am tired, groggy, in pain and growing pizzed off. I just called the Dr for advice as to what I should do at this very moment, and they should call me back within 2 hours.

So which Dr have I missed? Should I get a CT Scan next or what? (I am going broke on this)

I have had my blood drawn maybe 5 times in 2 months they never say anything about anything!

Test test test, nothing nothing nothing it’s either a mystery or not real.

  • Tennessee Insurance Prelicensing Question?

I am to be moving to Tennessee within a few months. My current license in Florida doesn't seem to hold water in TN. Its a CPSR not P&C.

I was thinking I should just get the prelicensing out of the way now before leaving, to better my odds of landing a job, then I could just sign up to do promisor testing, finger prints etc once I arrive.

    Question:

Does anyone know if I need to be a TN Resident in order to begin the TN prelicensing online?

  • Extreme Stomach Cramping/Diarrhea/Backache?

    Anybody ever have this?

Extreme stomach cramping after any excitement, but not always stressful situations. (Sitting in traffic, getting stressed at work, also seeing old friends, "exciting dreams" or even shopping.)

This has been going on for 6 months, and more painful than menstrual cramping lasting 5-30 minutes almost daily now, doubled over.

Also, lower backaches when I first get out of bed in the AM, new bed and comfy so doubtful it's the bed. This back pain eases within the first 1 hour of being awake after BMs.

Diarrhea, my only BMs are in the morning during Extreme back pain. This has been going on for 4 years or so, 4 years of diarrhea even on high fiber diets.

I have been obviously miss-diagnosed 100 times over and now in the past few months its growing worse.

I have 2 ultrasounds in a week, one to visit the female organs the other gall blatter, liver etc.

The Doc recommends an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, so a upper and lower scopes but it's all going to cost upwards to $1,000 which I don't have.

Have you ever had Extreme cramping following excitement, with a common back and lower gi link?

Liver? Spleen? Uh, I can't find anything online with common symptoms.

Female, 29, no chance of pregnancy, yes, big drinker.

Oh, the stomach issues started which ibuprofen miss use for the backache, of course washed down by...beer. (now i know....duh)

  • welding question making metal hot dog sticks?

so I trying to make metal hot dog sticks, wood handle, metal rod. I am going to bend the tip like a U shape then I have to adhere the U to the rod. I am pretty sure it has to be welded on doesn't it? I don't have the tools, and I am afraid I if solder it then when its used it will melt and fall apart after putting it into a 1,000* bonfire flame.

I have seen a soldering gun that is 100-140 watts I think with the right sold it may be able to handle 800*

  • Credit Card Terminating Card Program/Adverse Effect?

Visa Aspire; as you may or may not know is closing up shop after The Federal Trade Commission took them down on behalf of New Yorkers for the sum of $11,000,000.

Now they cancel all the cardholders accounts, effectively cancelling the agreement between company and cardholder if you ask me.

What are we to do since...

They will close our longest running account which will appear adversely on our FICO or credit score, though the reason the majority of the cardholders even opened an account with them was because they advertised it would establish, repair or increase your credit rating, and now with closing our accounts STILL with balances it will do the opposite!

They will lower the credit limit every time we make a payment while they do this it will reflect a maxed out card.

They have already charged the 2009 yearly account fees, they will continue to charge the monthly and periodic fees and in most cases if they haven't done it already they will soon increase the interest rate to the maximum allowable by the state law so they can continue collecting hand over fist all the while we consumers are stuck with a lowered credit rating due to the account closure and the maxed out appearance.

Do we just pay it off ASAP and watch our score lower as it reflects a closed account?

Do we make the minimum and wait for the class action suit so that our credit rating is not lowered due to this, maybe our fees will be renegotiated in the suit, why pay fees on a cancelled account?

which says that the replacement screen for sale is compatible with the Dell Inspiron E1505 15.4" WXGA (WXGA 1280X800)

  • Do you know what a Lute is? How much do you know? Maybe its not a lute..?

I have this instrument, it is four stringed, pear shaped body, large head huge tuning pegs and extreme raised frets, like a lute, but just four strings and rather small around 24 inches tall and 8 inches at its widest. About the size of a mandolin, but clearly asian.

Its obviously handmade and it feels like the paint is more like a clay and beautifully decorated with glass like sequins. The man I bought it from a few years ago said it came back from the Korean War, but no luck looking under Korean stringed instruments.

Any ideas? I can't identify this from any available images.

Just throw out some ideas for me to research.

    Thanks!

  • NY Insurance Agents & Brokers-Licensing Questions

I hold a 440 (CSR) in Florida, eligible to test for my 220 (Agent) at this time. But I am planning this move to NY and I just cant wrap my head around your state licensing.

Ok, There is an Agent, a Broker, and an Agent/Broker.

    Tests 10-53, 10-56, & 10-54. What is the difference?

Do all require a 90 hr course prior to testing? If I am an out of state agent, assuming I go forward with my testing does that hold any water in NY? I am sure you would need to hold it in FL for 1 yr or more, so its probably a waste of money to even test for the FL license.

    Any info is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
