  • Teachers, help with middle school math interactive journals! All tips and ideas welcome.?

I teach 7th grade math, and I want to use an interactive journal as my method of instruction this year. Basically, we will do warm-ups, notes, some guided practice in the journals. Of course, homework and quizzes/tests will be separate. I've also seen how to incorporate Dinah Zike's foldables into the journal. Do any of you teachers out there have experience with something like this? Any tips or ideas?

  • Teachers: What have you done or will you do to "pump you up" for the new year?

I had a one-hour massage and got a hair cut yesterday. I'm planning to get a pedicure next week. And I was wondering what other teachers were doing to (or have already done) as part of their back-to-school motivational techniques.

  • Teachers: I'm looking for back-to-school skit ideas to present to other teachers as a morale booster.?

As the question says, I'm looking for ideas for a short skit that a small group of teachers will present to other teachers during our staff development days before the first day of school. My goal is to increase staff morale, so I figured anything that makes fun of ourselves would be cool, but I am open to all suggestions.

  • Anybody have a staples coupon codes sent to them by email?

I have been getting emails all summer for $30.00 off orders over $150, and I must have inadverdently thrown them out of my inbox. Now that it's time to make a big order, I can't find those emails. Has anybody else been getting those emails too?

  • Trying to figure out the name of a song/band?

The song is more on the heavy side, but still played on the radio quite a bit in the Spring of this year. The beginning has the singer speaking (not rapping) about something then he says something to the effect of

"I push my fingers into my...Eyes

it's the only way that slowly (not sure here),

and it's made of all the things I have to say(?),

Jesus it never ends, the voices way inside,

if the pain goes on, I'm NOT GONNA MAKE IT!!!

    It has a great bass/guitar line,,really rocks...

Please help me if you know this song

  • Middle school teachers and administrators: what are some of your campus-wide procedures/logistics?

The middle school campus I work for is revising some of its campus-wide procedures to reduce behavior problems and increase efficiency. We are mainly looking at before- and after-school procedures, lunchroom procedures, hallway procedures, bathroom procedures, and assembly procedures.

We are aware that many procedures are based upon school floor plans, the master schedule, and other things that vary among schools, but we can surely modify good ideas to meet our needs.

We would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

  • House on market for two weeks with no interest; realtor wants to drop price, should I?

I listed my house for sale only two weeks ago. Then it took another few days before all the pictures and virtual tours were posted on the agency's website, so basically only about a week and a half.

My realtor called me yesterday to say that she thinks we should drop our asking price because there's been no showings of our home.

I didn't expect people to start beating down the door the first day. And with the way the housing market and economy is right now, I didn't think my house would sell in ten days.

    Should I drop my price?

  • My husband is considering changing careers-what education is needed for computer network administration jobs?

My husband has both a bachelors and a master in music education and has 8 years experience as a band director. He's considering changing careers and wants to work with computers. He's very knowledgable about computers and troubleshooting. He thinks he would like to work as a network administrator, but other computer-type jobs might be considered. What kind of qualifications would he need (mind you he has no experience, so education type of qualifications)? And what kind of salaries are normal for a job like this?

  • Anybody having problems with Evenflo Elan line bottles? If so, what kind and what are you doing about it?

I've started transitioning my daughter to the bottle in preparation for my return to work. I bought several of the Evenflo Elan line bottles - I like the variety of colors (keeps me straight on my breastmilk freshness) and I like the wide mouth bottles (shaped more like my breasts). But I've been having some troubles. First, the bottom screws on, and I've noticed some leaking from where it screws on. I've been really screwing it on tight. Then when I warmed the bottle in a bottle warmer (one of those that you add a little water to, and the burner heats the water up and warms the bottle), the milk is not getting warm enough based on the guidelines provided by the bottle warmer. So I'm using way more water than the instructions say. I have a feeling it's because of this screw on bottom. And then last night, in the warmer, the bottom completely popped off - all the milk leaked out of the bottle and into the warmer! What a mess. Anybody else having these troubles?

  • Breastfeeding moms: how can I stimulate milk production in one breast but not the other?

My daughter is now 7 weeks old, and I'm heading back to work in another week. So I've started pumping and transitioning her to the bottle to get ready for my return to work and her going to daycare. I've been pumping almost twice as much milk from my right breast than out of my left. With my 1st child, I did have more production in my right than in my left, but not like this.

Do you have any ideas that would stimulate production in just one breast and not the other?

  • Describe your school's ESL program including the various services that are provided (America only)?

I am the ESL program coordinator for an intermediate school (5th and 6th grade) in Texas. I've been running the program a specific way for the past two years, but I have found that there are some flaws. I would like to have some ideas about different things I could do to present to my new principal within the next few weeks. Also, the population I serve can vary from year-to-year. For example, my 1st year, I had several beginning-level ESL students, so I primarily concentrated on helping them. Then my 2nd year, I had none, so I spent more time helping advanced-level students.

Like I said, if you have an ESL program at your school, please describe the services it provides and how it implements these services.

  • Breastfeeding moms, what's the best nursing bra out there?

I'm going back to work in a few weeks, so I'm looking to purchase some nursing bras so that I can pump 2-3 times at work during the day and feed my child easily. Don't know if this matters, but I have really huge breasts (usually about a DD, but now with my milk, I'm at least an F) and I have fairly flat nipples. I would prefer one with an underwire and possilby a racerback for more support. Thanks so much!!!

  • ESL teachers, what is your best strategy or teaching tip for intermediate and advanced students?

I am the ESL coordinator for an intermediate school in Texas. We serve 5th and 6th graders. Most of our ESL students have reached an advanced level of proficiency, so they are mainstreamed in regular classes. I teach the beginners and some intermediate students. I like to send out strategies and tips to the mainstream teachers, usually about once a week, to help them with their advanced level students. Please tell me your tips, strategies, suggestions, etc. They could be content specific or just some general. Thank you so much!!! Also, if you'd like to be added to my email list, add you address here.

  • Private school tells someone that they need to homeschool their child.?

My cousin has a son that has been attending a private school. He has a medical condition that requires him to have a special diet. He sometimes misses school due to just being too ill to go to school. The private school has told my cousin that she needs to homeschool him. Big questions! Is this legal for a private school to tell her this? Should she enroll him at a public school? What information should she obtain from the private school concerning his education thus far to take to the public school? What can she expect from the public school once he is enrolled? Any other advice?

  • I don't speak Spanish! How do I support my child in a bilingual preschool program?

I had previously posted this question, then closed it too early not knowing what I was doing. I'm placing my child in a preschool program that will teach him in Spanish for half the day. I don't speak Spanish. How can I support what he learns at school at home?
