I live in Western Penna. With my husband, and 2 cats. We just had to euthanize our 16 year old male, Mike, who had CRF. We miss him very much, but just adopted a stray female that I fed all winter. She had a litter of kittens, and was pregnant again when I had her spayed. I intended to release her back out into the area after she was spayed, but decided to keep her inside instead. I really couldn't stand to think about her being outside this winter. She is trying to be a companion to my 5 year old female. She is also trying to be the dominant one right now, and that is not going well with Dessi. All in all , things are not too bad, and hopefully they will become good friends.Right now, Jan 2009 things are pretty good with the 2 cats.... Dessi is great with Boots, and Boots is coming around. I think eventually they will be great companions.January 2010 finds us with yet another cat. She had been outside,as a stray, & Dec 1st had her spayed, & she is enjoying the inside with our other 2 cats

  • Have a female cat, approx 3yrs of age with bladder frequency?

I had her to the vet Feb 8, where he did an x-ray to rule out kidney stones. He put her on clavamox 2 times a day till the med was gone, approx 13 days. After this she started to have frequency again, and blood in her urine. I took her back again today, and he feels she is just forming crystals. He put her on cefa drops 1 time a day, and suggested prescription food, which I will be trying, wet and dry. I am concerned as I see there is corn meal in the dry food. I have been feeding Eagle Pack Holistic Select, as the dry food and Fancy Feast as the wet food. Is there anything else that i could be feeding her for this condition? If she doesn't improve, he suggested a sonogram, and a uranalisis where they sedate her, and go into the bladder. Any other ideas anyone might have would be appreciated. She is eating, and does not seem to be in any pain.

  • I had a stray cat spayed Dec. 1st. They said she had ear mites.?

They suggested an application of Revolution, which would kill fleas and ear mites. Would only one application of this kill the ear mites, or should she have another application. I am sure that she didn't have any fleas. Is there anything better that I could have used for the mites?

  • Just had an outdoor stray cat spayed on Tuesday?

They said she also had ear mites, and suggested treating her with Revolution (which they did) This would also take care of any fleas also. Is this a good treatment for ear mites? Is there any followup that i must do,other than clean her ears with a Q-tip? I also noticed that her breasts are a little full, she did have a litter of kittens about 6 months ago.

  • How many hours before spaying should I withhold food and water?

I'm having a stray, outdoor cat spayed in the AM. How long should she be fasting? Is there any certain length of time I must keep her indoors after the spaying? They told me 24 hrs. Is this long enough?

  • Does anyone know if you can buy insulin for a cat online?

It is PZI vet insulin. My Sister has a diabetic cat that gets insulin 2x a day. It has been going up in price, and today when she picked it up at the vets office it was $95. This is getting a little out of hand considering she must buy the syringes(2 a day) She is from Western Penna area

  • I have taken in a stray female about 1-2 yrs of age. I also have a 5 year old female. ?

Problem being that the new one is trying to take over. There are no major spats, just the normal ones. However my older cat is taking a back seat, and I don't want this to happen. I have been using Bach's Rescue Remedy. I put about a drop or so in the water, and also put a drop between the ears of the aggressive cat. Can I put this on any other part of her body, such as on her nose or paw? I thought it could absorb into her more readily. Any help would be greatly appreciated.I did everything the right way when introducing them(took my time, left them see each other through a screen door, etc) This new cat had a litter and was pregnant when I had her spayed on July 11.

  • Is it allright to give a cat Miralax?

Does anyone know if Miralax is OK to give a cat that has problems with hair balls? I know it is ok to give CRF cats for constipation. This cat will not take the laxatone, even when you put it on her paw. How much Miralax would be alright to put on her food? I hear that it does not have any taste to it. Is this also true? Any help would be appreciated.

  • I have adopted a stray female that I had been feeding for quit a while.?

I have had her spayed (she had a litter of kittens, and was pregnant when I had her spayed) I also had her rabies shot, and she tested neg. for feline leukemia, and neg. for worms. The vet where she was spayed said she was about 2 yrs old. I think she is not that old. I have not had her to my vet as of yet. I hear so much controversy about giving the shots lately, and don't know what to do. She will be staying inside, and will only be going on our enclosed back porch.Does she need the other immunizations?

  • Pregnant stray?

Is there any risk of having a pregnant cat spayed? She has already had a litter, and I feel she is already pregnant. I am having her spayed in a few days. They say she can be spayed , and they will abort the kittens (if she is pregnant) I feel really bad about this, but there are too many unwanted kittens, cats, that no one wants, and all the shelters are filled to capacity. Just wondering about the risks???

  • I am hoping to get a stray (?) cat spayed.?

The problem is I never know when she is going to be around. I have been feeding her for a while and she has made up with me, so she is quite friendly. I have a lady that takes cats to have them spayed-neutered. Right now she takes them 2x a week, but can only take 2 females at a time. If I get her the evening before, I can put her in my indoor garage( in a pet cage)but sometimes lately she doesn't come around for a few days ( someone else must also be feeding her). Also I am curious to know how long I must keep her inside after the surgery? I don't have the option of keeping her permanently, as I already have 2 cats, one being a CRF cat. She will be going back outside, and I will continue to feed her.I guess my main concern is how long she needs to stay in after she is spayed.
