Oh, let's see ... I'm a cheerfully nerdy wanderer-type who is interested in a little bit of everything. Among some of my favorite things are are dogs, cartoons, travel, books, fireflies, words, drizzly days, and all things deeply geektastic. Most of the time when I am on here I should really be working on something else ... huzzah for procrastination =)

  • Would you ever say "have him to call" (emphasis on "to")?

Hello there! I know this may seem odd, but I'm looking for folks who use "have ... to" when they speak - for instance, "I'll have him to give you a call" or "I'll have him to clean up his room tonight." If you're reading those examples and they seem fine to you, I'd love to ask a few follow up questions! Specifically:

    - Is there a difference in meaning, to you, between things like "have him to call" and "have him call" (without the "to")? If there is, can you describe what that difference is? When might you use "have him TO" as opposed to just "have him"? Finally, if you don't mind, where are you from (no need for specifics, if you're in the US, a state or general region would be great)

Again, I realize this may seem odd - sorry about that - but for a project I'm working on I'm trying to nail down just how this type of construction is used. I'm pestering everyone I can find but thought I'd cast my net over here as well just to see what arises. Thanks to anyone who can help!

  • Do you have words or phrases that "belong" to you?

Not necessarily words that you made up or that you alone ever use, but ones that you use more often than most people - words that, if someone were to mimic the way you talk, they would definitely use? I suppose we all do to some extent but are you aware of yours? What are they?

  • Please help me remember the name of this book!?

I had this coffee table-style book a few years ago that was so very neat: basically it consisted of photographs of objects the author had found (or that other people had sent in to him) - the one thing that sticks out in my mind the most was a part of a -thumb- someone had found near a bridge in ... hmm, Germany, I believe?

Anyway, if anybody recognizes this book I would LOVE to hear from you (I lost my copy when I moved and am completely blanking on its title or author) - if it helps, I believe it came out in 2004 or maybe early 2005, and while I could be wrong about this I THINK the author had either dedicated it to a friend who had died of AIDS, or was donating a portion of the proceeds from the book to AIDS research ... does this ring a bell with anybody?
