insurance fraud on home purchase from previous buyer?
We are in the process of purchasing a short sale. We have suspecion that the current owner committed insurance fraud. Our agent said they had a claim and their was roof damage that was never fixed. I contacted and checked for permits for that year and nothing was pulled.
question Since we are buying the property as is and aware of the problem can we contact the insurance company to see what the claim was for. If it was for the roof repair that wasn't done and they pocketed the money. Can we get compensated at all if the insurance company files charges against them?
Or any other method to file suit against them.
We know we are buying the property as is and aware of the damage. However since they maybe got paid by the insurance company to fix it any way to get reimbursed for the costs we have to fix the problem?

We just recently changed most of our light bulbs to CFL. Now we have great concern over the mercury contained in the light bulb if they break. We have a young child so we removed any of them in any lamps. What is the risks if one breaks? Should people be using them or not?
