    My ping is erratically fluctuating.

I've reset the router and plugged in an ethernet cable. This problem is occurring with multiple devices, and I'm only using one at a time. Internet browsing is extremely slow, it takes about 20 seconds to load a page and playing games is not even possible.

  • Board game for gift for intellectual person?

I'm having difficulty finding a gift for someone I don't know much about - he's extremely intelligent and working together with people to solve problems or accomplish goals. He's aspiring to be the "Steve Jobs" of genetic modification.

My budget is about 50 dollars. I'm thinking about a strategy based board game, and I'd appreciate any suggestions :)

Any other type of gift ideas are welcome. Thank you.

  • What's the best movie trilogy of all time?

    In the running are:

    -Original Star Wars Trilogy

    -Lord of the Rings Trilogy

    -The Godfather Trilogy

    -Toy Story Trilogy

    -Batman Trilogy

    -Back to the Future Trilogy

    -Indiana Jones Trilogy

    -The Matrix Trilogy

You can try to argue for a different trilogy, but be honest with yourself.

My vote goes for Lord of the Rings.

  • Why are Magazines allowed to blatantly lie?

Saw the front page on the magazine "Globe" and it said "Obama diagnosed with deadly disease! Forced into wheelchair! Lost all will to live!"

  • Could I accomplish my goals?

I have a very difficult path laid out for me on my quest for ultimate knowledge and achievement. Firstly, allow me to introduce my situation. I am the epitome of the "Does Not Work Up To Potential" student. Throughout my incredibly lazy years of high school and party-induced horrendous grades, it would not be an exaggeration to estimate that I have spent probably 2-3 hours completing homework at home and equal time studying. Nevertheless, I am a fantastic test-taker, contributed by my intelligence which guided me through my very mediocre grades. Apathy aside, I always liked to challenge myself concerning course selection. My junior and senior year were filled with AP chemistry, physics, calculus, and psychology courses. The material never challenged me, and my grades for these classes were relatively indifferent from my grades in literature and art classes. I received a 30 on my ACT from 20 minutes of studying.

I will wrap it up due to little characters left.

-I got 4.0 senior year, 4.0 first year in CC. 2.4 H.S. GPA.

-Scored 34 on the ACT after studying extensively senior year.

    -I am now very determined.

-I will do whatever is necessary for the best possible outcome.

-I want to go to the best school possible (for ChemE).

What are my best options? For 3 years it has been my ultimate goal to make it into MIT and achieve the best education possible. Would it even be possible to be accepted? What would be the best transfer sequence? I appreciate any feedback.

  • Questions concerning abnormal psychology (schizophrenia)?

Definitely a lot of information I want to clear up, I've tried researching these things on the internet so don't just copy and paste a wikipedia paragraph.

First of all, I know all of the basic concepts behind the symptoms, diagnosis, causes and behavioral effects from a basic AP psych unit in my high school; obviously not delved into extensively. In my quest for knowledge, I would like to know everything about the behavior and effects of dopamine, (I'm not interested in producing meth) partially because I just began ADD medication. It is in my understanding that with schizophrenia, dopamine receptor neurotransmitters are dysfunctional (due to the genetic code, I believe) and don't receive dopamine normally, leaving the dopamine trapped in the synaptic cleft, stimulating the cell. What is the relationship between dopamine-induced cell stimulation and the split-brain effect of schizophrenia? And correct me if I'm wrong, please.

In class, we only touched on the split-brain of schizophrenia patients. From my better-understanding of ADD (I tried to relate the two), I came to the conclusion that the stimulation of the cell causes distortion of the link separating the subconscious and the conscious, resulting of a mesh between subconscious thoughts and conscious perception; this would explain hallucinations and aberrant thoughts. In my understanding, if someone without schizophrenia imagined batman, a schizophrenic with a similar thought process would actually SEE batman. This is what I interpreted based on the information I was given, I'm probably wrong but it would be nice if someone could correct me and elaborate on this.

Thirdly, I haven't researched the causes and chemical behavior of ADD (I only know it's a chemical imbalance). Is ADD a loss or surplus of dopamine? If it is a loss, does this mean that dopamine receptors block dopamine from entering the receptors (I don't know about what the receptors do with the dopamine they receive, or any neurotransmitter really) so they don't receive enough dopamine, does it mean the receptors are too active and consume too much dopamine, or does it mean not enough dopamine is simply produced? If it is a surplus of dopamine, obviously just inverse the questions.

Fourthly, how does this relate to schizophrenia? Is ADD simply a much less prominent version of schizophrenia (metaphorically, liberalism is to ADD as communism is to Schizophrenia) are they inverses (ADD is a loss of dopamine and schizophrenia is a surplus, or vice versa), or are they completely unrelated?

And lastly, is schizophrenia a very concrete disorder, as in you have schizophrenia or you don't have schizophrenia, or is it possible to just have little bit of schizophrenia (much like ADD where people without the disorder are frequently diagnosed with it)? Is it like an on-off switch or something with everything inbetween?

^I only wonder this because my girlfriend exhibits certain traits that are common with schizophrenics. She doesn't hallucinate or speak gibberish, but she

    1) laughs uncontrollably in traumatic situations,

    2) believes in ghosts (I know this is common),

    3) believes meditation can have some ridiculous effects, like an incredible understanding of the world through peculiar meditation techniques involving chi energy and such, similar to the Shaolin Monks; and things like going through extreme mental challenges to reach a bridge leading to ultimate knowledge and understanding. The Shaolin Monks also believe this.

    4) Believes she has the ability of psychic mediums, and can read people's mind through a spiritual connection (I actually believe this one).

Obviously she's a very interesting person. She's also very intelligent, especially creatively. I'm not worried by any means, and I love her more than anything, but are these traits correlated to those with schizophrenia? Even if she did have schizophrenia, it wouldn't matter to me.

I know this is a lot of questions - I greatly appreciate anyone who can help me out, or can confirm any of my assumptions, which I'm pretty sure are all far-fetched. Thank you for any feedback.

A car was travelling on a flat circular track with a radius of 80m and a coefficient of friction of 0.4. You determined the maximum speed to be 13m/s. How much faster could he go if we banked the track to 35 degrees?

  • Would these tickets be worth going to court for?

So I was riding passenger in my friend's car. We live in Wisconsin. We're both 17 and still have our probationary license. Our three other friends were driving their car to come pick us up once we dropped off our car. We were driving along and we saw a cop on the side of the road, and he went out and pulled into the gas station to turn around. We knew he was coming after us so we turned the corner, then turned 3 more to get back on the road we were on - but he was waiting for us and pulled us over at 11:20. We said we were driving to his house to drop off his car and then catch a ride with a friend to go back to my house. He let us go with a warning so long as we go straight back to my house, as curfew was 11:00 despite trying to avoid getting pulled over. It was 11:50 by the time we got to leave. We got back to his house, he grabbed his stuff, and left by 12:10 with my friend's car pool. So we were driving and my friend overcorrected a turn, so we got pulled over again. By the same cop. This time, he gave my friend a ticket for having too many people in the car on his probationary license and the rest of us curfew tickets, despite him saying that we should go straight back to my house. My friends ticket was 500 dollars and the curfew tickets were 50 dollars. Is this worth to try and appeal it in court, what would the procedure be, and could I get the tickets lowered? Does it cost money to go to court for trafficking offenses?
