  • Unlimited day trading for academic interest?

I'm considering an experiment involving high-frequency trading in a real stock market. I won't go into the details of the experiment under consideration but it would involve a large volume of automated trades. It also has no particular profit motive, being academic in nature. I would like to minimize the initial cash balance to something on the order of $1000 if possible, but this is quite flexible.

What I need to find out here is primarily how to get the largest number of trades for a fixed (preferably low) price (e.g. 100 trades for $5 or unlimited trades for a day for $500, though I'm not sure what constitutes a realistic rate). I want to be able to give my program a specific trade fee budget.

This would all take place in a cash account as opposed to one on margin, if that was in question.

I would also appreciate some elucidation on the relevant US laws and regulations with regards to this kind of trading.

    Thanks for your help.

  • I have some muscle pain in one arm?

One muscle of my left forearm (I suspect one of the superficial flexors) seems to be strained. A few particular motions cause a fair amount of pain up a section of my forearm if done with much force, and there will remain a dull pain there for a while after such an exertion. It has persisted for about a week, and is impeding my ability to do certain exercises and tasks.

Do you have any advice for recovery? How can I identify the specific type of injury and avoid it in the future?

If it's relevant, I'm 17 and in good health

    Thanks

  • My tourmaline seems to be hollow...?

I went to a gem mine the other day and collected some tourmaline samples. One specimen had a fair number of small and mid-sized crystals (<8 mm). While I was cleaning some clay off of it with a pin, I found that some of the crystals seemed almost to be watermelon (pink inside of green), but the pink was completely opaque, so I checked it with the pin and it left like any clay. As far as I dug into one crystal in particular, however, I still found pink clay such that I could eventually stick the pin through its length (~1.5 cm). The color (atypical among the minerals in the pegmatite), and the hollowness of at least one of the crystals made me suspicious that this might somehow be dissolved pink tourmaline. Is this possible while leaving a shell of green tourmaline?

  • Increase pull-up strength?

I'm looking to improve the quality and quantity of my pull-ups. I can typically only perform 3 in a set with any kind of form, and I've been stuck around that for a while.

If you could outline a weekly plan to help me with this I'd be appreciative.

    Notes:

-I'm not doing this in an extensive gym, I have adjustable dumbbells, a barbell, and a door-frame pull-up bar with chin-up/close, medium, wide, and perpendicular grips.

    -I'm 6'1", 165 lbs (185cm, 75kg).

  • A good place to learn Java graphics?

Does anyone know a good website, video series, free pdf, etc. from which to learn Java graphics?

I'm already familiar with Java's fundamentals (through the level of an AP Computer Science, Java programming course), so it need not teach me other basics; it's fine if there are some lessons not on graphics that I'm already familiar with, but I'd prefer a graphics-exclusive lesson plan.

    Thanks!

  • What happened in 1725 to make the 's'-word peak in literature?

According to google ngrams, http://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=****&... the s-word

(I would spell it out here, but it would be made into asterisks) had an anomalous peak in literary usage in 1725 amid virtually none. In all seriousness, what could have caused this peak?
