I'm a member of the Baha'i Faith, which I joined when I was 24. As a Baha'i I believe that God speaks to mankind through Divine Teachers, such as Jesus or Buddha, and that the most recent of these is Baha'u'llah. I'd like to invite you to investigate His claims. As a Baha'i, I do not believe religious matters should simply be taken on faith, but should be studied carefully. I am also a former history instructor.
When did become common for police officers to surrender their weapon after a shooting?
It's for a novel set in 1949. I'm guessing it probably varies among department, but I just need a general idea. Thanks.
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police8 years agoHow does the release of officers from active service differ from the discharge of enlisted personnel?
I'm interested in the period following World War Two, but knowing how it works today would also be helpful.

3 AnswersWater Sports8 years agoHow long does it take for a head wound to bleed out?

I'm guessing not, but if it is, I need sources.
3 AnswersGovernment8 years agoWhat would President Obama have to do to get your vote?
This question is for those who are inclined to support President Obama but who are nonetheless dissatisfied with his record so far. Basically I want to compile a list of what changes we would like to see him make during his second term. I'm looking for constructive suggestions only. Anti-Obama rants will be ignored.

22 AnswersMovies9 years agoNow that Romney has won Florida, is the race for the GOP nomination essentially over?
With 4,969 of 6,796 precincts reporting, Romney leads Gingrich by 15% (47% to 32%).
I'm not asking if you like the results, but if the race is over. And if not, specifically why not. (Don't waste my time with 'It's not over till it's over.')
4 AnswersElections9 years agoBy what right is God displeased with humans?
Referencing Genesis 6, wherein 'God' sees man's wickedness and determines to destroy humanity. However, since God granted humans free will, how can God come back and be displeased with how we exercise that free will. It's like giving a six-year-old a dollar then complaining when she spends it on candy.
Of course, none of this is literally true, but it raises an interesting contradiction. If free will is not truly free, then what is it, really.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoAtheist, agnostic, or skeptic?
On the question of the existence an atheist believes there is no God, while the agnostic does not know. Is someone who believes the question is simply unanswerable also an agnostic, a skeptic, or does some other term apply?
This is a serious question meant to discover the proper word for a type of belief. Please don't preach to me.

2 AnswersBooks & Authors10 years agoAre there any scientific studies or reports that support the notion of 'sexual orientation'?
That 'homosexuality' is a matter of orientation rather than choice is rather widely accepted, but I'm wondering if this notion is supported by science. I have no interest in arguing for or against this idea, just want to know if it's backed by science, particularly by evidence other than the occurrence of homosexuality among animals.
Also, is the reason for it's occurrence understood?
4 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoTheists and atheists alike: Do you believe you can sway someone by insisting they are wrong?
Can you see that it is impossible for someone to 'un-believe' something? Wouldn't it make more sense to provide positive reasons for accepting a new position?
25 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan someone recommend a great ghost story/novel?
I'm specifically interested in ghosts, rather than general horror, preferably recent fiction. However, if you know of something older or supposedly true, that's cool as well.
4 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoAren't Fundamentalist Christians basically insecure in their belief?
Why else insist that we all believe as they do? Aren't they asking the rest of us to confirmation what they believe? If everyone believes it, it must be true, right? Or perhaps their faith is not sufficient to follow the Bible?
"If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave." Matthew 10:14
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs Glenn Beck part of a vast fascist conspiracy?
I'm not saying he is. I'm just asking a question. I'm just saying what better way to deflect attention away from his fascist by accusing everyone else of being a fascist. Hey, I'm just saying.
13 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhere in the Bible are Christians instructed to interpret the Bible literally?
Because 2 Corinthians 3:4-6 seems to say just the opposite: "And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf people who do evil are doing Satan’s bidding, why would Satan punish them?
There are some points related to the idea of hell that do not add up. According to people who believe in hell . . .
Hell is a ‘lake of fire’ where sinners (defined variously) are punished for all eternity after death.
Hell is ruled by Satan, allegedly the source of all evil in the world.
So, if people who do evil are doing Satan’s bidding, why would Satan punish them? Sorry, but that does not add up.
Note: I don’t believe in hell; I just want to understand this doctrinal contradiction.
