  • Hard-boiled eggs safety?

My husband prepares hard-boiled eggs and leaves them sitting out on the counter when he's done. He will eat them for days, having never refrigerated them. Is this safe?

  • Multivitamin with minerals?

Can you suggest a web site to order the best multivitamin on the market for women. I'm nearly thirty years old. I have taken Nature Made for years, but my acupuncturist recently told me that it's crap, yet offered no alternatives. I know I need D and calcium. I take probiotics every day and get enough Omega 3's in my diet.

  • Essential oils for seniors?

I just read that rosemary, peppermint, and basil are good essential oils for people suffering from dementia. I also have read that lemon aromatherapy is good for memory function as well. I would really like to give my father-in-law (blind, vascular dementia, diabetic) these things for Christmas. But, I don't know where to start as far as purchasing them, and am not sure how to tell him to use them. Any help?

  • Good gift for blind father-in-law?

My father-in-law is *mostly* blind and in poor health from Diabetes complications. They live in Florida. We got him a couple of CD's already for Christmas, and he, of course, has an ipod, etc. Any ideas on what would be a great gift for him? I always feel badly for him because he seems to receive so little, as it is difficult to find things that are appropriate for him.

  • Kitten "wet the bed" again?

I posted a question last week about little Shortie "wetting the bed":

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aiz_t...

As I stated, the vet and vet techs could not find anything wrong with her and told me just to monitor her. She still uses her litter box and has not eliminated randomly throughout the house, near the litter box, etc. However, twice last night, she peed again in her sleep -- once while napping on the couch, and once while sleeping with me and hubby. I am increasingly concerned. :( She does not have a fever. We are going to see the vet again this afternoon. I am just wondering if anyone else knows what might be going on and what I should ask for and expect at the vet.

  • Kitten "wet the bed" last night . . .?

This was not a case of her jumping up on the bed and peeing though, as in improper elimination.

I was not feeling well last night, so I camped out on the couch to not keep hubby awake. Shortie, of course, joined me out there, and fell fast asleep on my stomach. I woke up at one point to shift position, and she had peed on the blanket which was on me. She was still lying there as though she had actually peed in her sleep.

We have had not one single litter box problem with her. She's five months old. Anyone have any experience with this? Could it be just a random incident? She seems fine today, and we are going to the vet tomorrow . . . I was just curious if anyone has some insight into the situation.

  • Wellness canned food in bulk?

For those who feed Wellness, do you purchase it from a web site? No stores near here sell it. I'd like to be able to purchase it on-line if possible without getting gouged on shipping. Any links or tips would be appreciated!

  • How did your cat(s) become yours?

So many of the questions in the Cats section here are from people who have found a cat or kitten and need to know how to proceed. Many of them are kind-hearted folks who perhaps have never had cats before and don't know how to care for them, but want to give them homes and a good life. Back in February, I was one of those people.

Gypsy was semi-feral and pregnant when she came to us. I got some questionable guidance from vets and some great guidance here. Gypsy has been through a lot in her very short little life (the vets estimate that she is only a year and two months old), but we have done right by her (spayed now, shots, lots of Love). Baccala and Mini (her two remaining kittens) are well and becoming more and more people-friendly. Shortie -- our five month old tortie -- showed up in our backyard two months ago. She was sick and compromised, being attacked by two feral toms. I rescued her from them (have the scars to prove it!), got her well (she was near death, and it took awhile), and she is now a wonderful little pet and friend.

I'm wondering how common this is. Did your cats find you, or did you adopt or purchase them, etc.?

  • Cat coat color linked to temperament/personality?

When people find out I have a tortie, some offer me condolences! When I first rescued her from feral toms attacking her in my backyard, I rushed her to the vet, where the tech was warning me about tortie personality. I even found a web site dedicated to "tortietude." I've had my kitten almost two months now (making her four months old), and she has been nothing but an absolute dream - sweet, affectionate, playful, so Loving.

So, I found this article today: http://www.petpeoplesplace.com/resources/articles/... All about coat color link to personality. So, who puts stock in this theory? I understand that coat color is genetic, and that genetics, to some extent, form human personality. But cats?

Black cat owners, are your pets laid back and easy? Ginger owners, are your cats feisty and temperamental? Tortie owners, do I have the exception to this rule in my home?

**I understand the purebreeds issue here, and that they are bred specifically for personality and such. This question is not about them, as all of that has been documented, etc.**

  • Looking for a gift web site?

I found it a few weeks ago, but it's no longer in my history. Seems like the site began with an "S." It is a gift site with very unique products. It is not: uncommon goods, wishing fish, or red envelope. I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any ideas?

  • World's Best Litter question?

Since so many cat owners sing its praises, I would like to switch over to World's Best Cat Litter (using Arm and Hammer now). After researching litter issues, I'm a bit concerned that so many cats exhibit problems when a litter box change is made. Any tips on transitioning cats/kittens to different litter?

  • Does this happen to you with your pets?

My kitten, Shortie the Tortie, is so sugary sweet in the morning with me, and it's such a perfect way to start the day. She is such an awesome snuggler and muffin maker. She will need on me and the blanket (she also drools while doing this . . . LOL) for 30 minutes sometimes before she tucks herself into a ball between my chin and shoulder. But my husband always misses it because he's asleep!

Whenever one makes a new sound or a funny expression, or looks up at me with gratitude for rescuing them, I wish I could just freeze time and grab the camera. Anyone who says that animals do not feel or express emotions have either never been around animals or simply have no emotion themselves.

Sometimes I just wish that I had a camera constantly running to capture those special, sweet things that our cats and dog do so I could share them with everyone. :) Don't you Love those special moments with your pets?

  • Attention cat rescue groups in Georgia?

For the past few months, I have been TNR-ing a feral colony in my backyard. My husband and I were even able to transition one of the kittens to being our indoor pet. The others have been fine, just lounging on my porch, until recently when some new cats showed up. I honestly believe they were dumped.

Anyway, last night, we trapped a beautiful tortie. She is extremely sweet -- not "feral" -- that is a part of the new ones that we've just seen in the past few days. I do not want to TNR this cat. She deserves to be someone's pet. She rubbed against me and purred like crazy, jumped in my lap, and took treats from my hand. If any rescue orgs out there can give this girl a chance, she is incredibly deserving.

I have talked to four rescue orgs already that told me immediately they have no room for her. :( Please help.

  • Cooking safety - baked chicken?

I placed some raw chicken breasts in a glass pan last night covered in green (tomatillo) salsa to pop in the oven for dinner. But, my husband got take-out instead. The chicken in the sauce has been in the fridge ever since. Is it okay to bake it now?

  • About liquids on an airplane?

I haven't flown in awhile, and I need to know if I can take sunscreen, shampoo, etc. with me when I do? I understand I can't take it in my carry-on, but can I put it in my bag and check it? Do the containers have to be a certain kind -- like plastic, see-through, etc.?

  • The stray saga continues . . .?

I asked a question recently about the adoption of a stray cat: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Av9tX...

We named her Gypsy. :) She's around every day for her meals, some brushing, and some lovin'. The past few days, she has rarely left the house -- she either hangs out on the back patio or inside. And, she does NOT want to go outside at night. Night before last, she stayed in the house and slept on the floor next to our bed. Last night, hubby put her in the garage with . . . wait for it . . . another stray cat that has found it in his heart to Love us.

We call him Fernando. He's a solid white, golden-eyed Love. He started coming around when she first did. He was very vocal and a problem for my husband, since the cat sprayed around the perimeter of the house. He has stopped spraying and just wants to be held and fed -- then held some more.

He's not neutered. Ugh. She may be pregnant - I still don't know. Double ugh. We have vowed that they will both go to the vet this weekend. I'm now attached to them both and suppose they'll be sticking around. The thing is, I have to transition them into being indoor kitties. When they're outside, I worry about them, especially at night (it impacts my sleep). Am I in over my head? Will this be a nightmarish transition?

  • A stray cat has adopted us . . .?

. . . and she's a quirky little thing. She started coming around our house when she was obviously in heat (always being trailed by at least one male cat), as though she was seeking asylum. Husband started feeding her, and we made her a box with a blanket in it, etc. She is an outdoor cat -- I have seen her capture and consume mice on three occasions now -- and comes inside randomly. She has even started scratching on the windows and meowing to come inside. She can be affectionate, of course on her own terms, and seems to trust us, but she is still quite skiddish.

Problems: I've never had a cat before. I don't know what to expect, and I don't know how to handle her quirks. There are lots of strays in our neighborhood, and I know we should get her fixed, plus get her shots, etc. But, I have no idea how to GET her to a vet. She will not allow us to pick her up.

Any suggestions, jewels of wisdom, things I absolutely need to know? I'm not even sure we are feeding her appropriately (dry Meow Mix in the morning, and wet poultry flavors Friskies in the evening). There's so much conflicting info on the web, and I am clueless -- especially until I can get her to the vet.

  • Know where I can find picture frames shaped like a puzzle piece?

I know I've seen them before, but I can't seem to find any now. All my web searches are bringing up tons of puzzle sites, and I am getting frustrated wading through everything. :(

I need them for my wedding and would like to be able to find several of them.
