My friend has been on SSI for a long time. Some time back they required her to apply for SS benefits when she turned 62. So she now gets SS benefits. We expected SSI to reduce benefits so that the total of SSI and SS would be equal to what she was getting on SSI alone. But her first payment has arrived and no reduction. She can't get any useful info online. A visit to the SS office has not been helpful and she needs to nail this down because she is moving to an apartment and they need to confirm income. So.... can anyone clear this up for us? Or at least point us to a website that we can confirm things with?

I sold a house in Michigan via land contract. The buyer, a close friend of mine, was able to afford the place only with the help of her son.

So the son has had a meltdown, quit his job and is not fulfilling his obligations. My friend will soon be in violation of the terms of the land contract.

Her son did not sign a lease with her so he is an at-will tenant. His rent was due on the first, and after some deliberation she has issued a 7 day eviction notice to him.

One way or another he will be gone, with his cooperation or without it. But in the meantime, if she gives the house back to me before she is in full default I am wondering how this affects the tenants. Since she would no longer have ownership of the house and can no longer be a landlord, would it then fall on me to evict an undesired tenant? Would I have to start from scratch and then give him 30 days notice?

OR, would I be able to immediately expel him? I mean, what rights does he have to stay there when the person with whom he had an agreement is gone suddenly? He has no agreement with me.

He is not MY tenant!

Watching episode 1 tonight and I was taken with the music sound track from the first few minutes of the first episode. It's clearly a big band era piece, but I don't recognize it. Don't know if it is something freshly written in that style OR an obscure piece that never got the attention it deserved.

I try to log on to Tumblr. But I'm not sure I have the right password and the gotcha thing is driving me insane. I'm pretty much giving up on ever getting onto Tumblr again.

But what I DO notice is that as I start to try to log in, Mozilla has this permission bar that drops down telling me that Tumblr is trying to run Silverlight. OK. So I look up what on earth Silverlight is and it seems legit.

So. I allow it. I allow it permanently. I allow it for just this one time. It DOESN'T MATTER because I'm stuck in a do loop of giving silverlight permission, but instead of moving on, it just triggers the same permission BS over and over again.

I'm guessing that there is no way for me to log on to Tumblr, but I kind of liked it so I'm open to the possibility that some kind genius internet PC guru actually has seen this and knows the answer and can give me helpful advice.

But I'm not counting on it, so it's ok if nobody can help.

There used to be a way to log into my yahoo email and then choose NOT to be available on messenger. I can't figure out how to do them now. A year ago, you could sign out or be invisible, but those options seem to have disappeared.

This is creating all kinds of trouble for me, making me visible unknowingly and then friends send me messages. I didn't log into messenger and am not expecting the IM's so suddenly my friends are thinking that I'm ignoring them on purpose.

When I log into my email, I want to read my emails, draft emails and so on. If I want to be available to chat I would log onto messenger. I don't understand why they force this on us!

Yahoo keeps making things worse! It makes no sense to me.

OK, here's the deal. We have a Linksys16634 router in our attic. Our son's room is the furthest spot from that router and he had connectivity problems, so we put a Dlink router in his bedroom and wired it to the Linksys. He then hardwired between the Dlink and his several devices. Worked out fine for him.

All other PC's and devices run on the Linksys.

Two days ago, I'm online and suddenly my laptop reports that it is no longer connected to the internet. After some research I find that the other pc's and devices are still connected to the Linksys and doing fine. But every time I try to connect to the Linksys on MY laptop I get a message saying it won't hook up. I have used the helper to try to resolve problems, but it has been fruitless. To get online now, I need to connect to the Dlink. But then I lose access to printers not to mention being able to transfer files between my pc and other PC's on the Linksys network.

My laptop runs windows 7 FWIW. Two of the other pc's using the Linksys are Windows 8 systems, I'm sorry to say.

Does anyone have any idea why my hardware is working properly, but I can't connect to our main router and I CAN connect to a router hard wired to the main router?

My son and I have been planning on going to the casino for the day for a couple weeks. It will be the last chance to do this before his surgery on Wednesday. But now, temperatures are really low and it is windy creating really bad wind chill levels. Should I scrap our plans?

I have made several attempts this morning to access my yahoo email. Yahoo reports that the website can't be found. When I use another browser either Chrome or Comodo Dragon, I have no trouble at all.

The thing is, I don't like Chrome or Comodo Dragon, and I DO like Firefox...... when it's working.

Seems like they are having a lot of trouble these days and constantly 'upgrading' or revising their product. Every time they do that, I start having problems I didn't have before.

Any help?

I've been appointed as the personal representative for an estate. I'm under the gun to complete an inventory of all estate assets with fair value and report this to the probate court so that they can determine how much inventory tax to assess on the estate.

The keys and titles to two vehicles are being held by one of the decedent's children, as well as several other items including some firearms and keys to a lakefront home.

I have been asking for these items as well as some minor documentation and small stuff for over a week now and have been told that this person is too sick to deal with it. Now it may be true that she is ill, but how much effort is involved in answering the phone or door and letting me pick up the keys, titles, paperwork and the firearms?

I don't want to be rude or pushy, but I only have 91 days to complete my tasks and she has surgery coming up in a couple weeks so I want to get this handled before then.

Does anybody know how I can legally ensure compliance? Do I need to hire an attorney to make the case? Do I need to get the local police involved? According to statute, as personal representative, I have absolute control over these assets as if I were the deceased person.

Please don't guess at an answer if you don't really know it. That won't be helpful. If I don't get good ideas from this forum, I'll just be contacting the Probate court anyway. Just getting tired of the runaround.

Firefox has been my favorite browser for a LONG time, until they rolled out #24. Now I largely find it's unusable. People can send me files, but when I download them, they disappear. I can't open PDF files from trusted online sources.

I did not intentionally update to Firefox 24, that decision was made by someone outside of my home and I'm extremely disenchanted.

Has anybody found a way to make it work? I have uninstalled Firefox, but now have nothing I like to replace it with.

My sister-in-law 'Mabel' bought a house and financed it with a conventional mortgage eleven years ago. Last year she decided she wanted to refinance, but had inadequate income, and so had her mother 'Betty' sign on as co-owner via quitclaim deed, and as co-borrower on the mortgage.

Since then, she has persuaded or tricked Betty to pay the entire costs of the mortgage. Betty is now in her 80's and in failing health due to old age. We do not expect her to live much longer, could be weeks, could be a year, probably less.

So, I'm pretty clear that the house will pass on to Mabel as sole owner upon Betty's death.

Mabel seems to think that Betty's estate will be obliged to make house payments, essentially resulting in Mabel getting a 'free' house.

I think that since Mabel is a co-owner and a co-borrower, that she becomes responsible for all mortgage payments and house expenses and the estate should not be impinged upon.

Further, I think that if Betty's estate is responsible to pay the mortgage off, then her estate should remit equal amounts to each of Mabel's siblings.

I'm pretty sure I'm right, but I'm not getting a clear definitive answer by researching online. Anybody out there who knows the real answer? Opinions are nice and I have one, but I want more than just opinions.

What are they doing? Well, I've had accounts with them for about 15 years. I've never had an issue with them until today.

Suddenly, my account view no longer tells me how many shares I have in each company, the dates of my purchases, whether my position is a profit or a loss, the value of my total investment. All it tells me now is whether that stock is up or down on today's trading and the percentage of that move..... almost totally useless info.

So, my question is, is this happening to other people? Is this an Etrade programming glitch? Or is it a poorly thought out 'upgrade' that is really a downgrade?

Before you tell me to contact customer support.... I have. I got one response so far and it is an idiot response obviously assuming I've never used Etrade before and don't know what I'm doing. It's also obvious that they didn't check out my claim.

I've even taken a photograph of what my account looks like. I don't mind sharing it publicly because the information is SO useless that sharing it publicly poses no threat to me.

I was playing euchre at yahoo games. But suddenly, when I opened up a table, it would open up a pop-up window for the game table, but it was blank. Yesterday, it was FINE. Today, pure rubbish. I've experimented turning pop-up blockers off, then on, and so on, adding games.yahoo.com to the exceptions to the pop-up blockers removing it and adding again. Nothing I do fixes it. But I get to watch some commercials! And STILL I don't get to play cards!

I am SO frustrated. I bought three kits, for myself, my wife and my daughter.

First I registered MY kit. All went well and I spent a LOT of time filling out surveys despite the periodic SLOW site times. Then I registered my daughter's kit. Fine, only it never seemed to ask for HER email address. I thought it was weird and kept waiting to be asked... I was never asked. But HER kit got registered successfully.

I am NOW being asked to register MY kit. Only when I try, I'm told that my kit number has already been entered. But when I try to access it on my account I am AGAIN told that I need to register my kit.

So, I seem to be both registered and NOT registered and there is NO WAY I'm going to submit my saliva sample until this is resolved.

WHAT can I do NOW?

PS - I asked this question earlier, when I was more agitated and must have said things in such a way as to violate the community guidelines. No way of knowing for sure since the only way I can ask is to appeal the decision and then face penalties if denied, and possible expulsion from yahoo answers and maybe even my email. So.... if anything above is offensive I'd sure like someone to clue me in so that I can be prepared.

When my iPad did not survive the fall from the roof of my car to the parking lot, I opted to buy a tablet rather than another pricey iPad. It has worked out just fine until this last week in which my tablet decided to 'upgrade' to the next operating system.

Starting to seriously hate Google. Apparently they have taken over Android, and have 'upgraded' my tablet. Now it is slower, I've lost my GPS app, my favorite, which I rely on constantly. Alternatives to my old app, such as Mapquest, suck big time. I just want something that will find my location when I speak it and will verbally give me directions as I'm travelling so I can drive without looking at the damn tablet.

Other apps now run more slowly, apparently because they now all have advertising scrolling somewhere on it, wanting me to download more crappy apps.

Thank you Google for ruining a great product. I didn't miss my iPad when I got my tablet a year ago, but I sure do now.

If someone can find an app for me that will do the GPS thing like my old app, I will be very happy. What I need is one that will understand verbal input for locations, and show me the route, and where I am at on it, plus talk to me and tell me when to turn. That's what I had before. And no, I don't recall the name of the app that Google took off of my tablet.

I'm ready to sell my tablet and buy another iPad.

I want my wife and I to contribute the max to our Roth IRA's this calendar year. We are both over 50. My wife is on SSD and unable to work for the last 10 years. We have taken out a partial payment from our deferred compensation packages, but are not planning on spending the money for living expenses. We are living on my pension, her disability pension plus her SSD payments. None of these streams are considered to be earned income for purposes of IRA contributions, I believe.

Rather, we plan on investing and would like to put as much of it into our Roth IRA accounts as possible.

I know that normally we would not have been able to contribute since neither of us is receiving wages. But now that we have withdrawn some 457 plan money, are we able to send $6500 each to our respective Roth IRA's?

Logically it seems that would be legit, so I am seeking assurance from a reliable source that can be confirmed for its accuracy.

Since my wife is disabled she can't work, but this is money for which we have not yet been taxed for income taxes.

It was fine last week. But yesterday it refused to start. There is gas in the tank, it rolls over just fine and if you spray starter fluid in the carburetor it starts then immediately dies.

What can be wrong other than a block in the fuel line or a plugged fuel filter?

This is a Whirlpool model GR450LXLQ0. I've had this nice oven for a few years and no trouble until recently. First, the convection bake and broil stopped working, but baking the old style was fine. Today I tried to put it on convection and it would run for awhile and then stop. Then it totally stopped. Now the panel in the back is totally black and unresponsive.

So, is it dead or what?

Bought this laptop new last December as a Christmas gift. My wife has been complaining about the new laptop ever since. So I have been checking into it lately. We have three laptops and two desktops connected to our home network. Windows 8 came on the laptop and I upgraded my desktop to Windows 8 from XP.

Now, I run speedtest.net on these pc's and find that we are getting a really nice speed on ALL pc's except the Toshiba laptop. Doesn't matter what browser I use, the speed hovers around 25 Mbps on all the pcs except for the laptop with Windows 8 and that one runs about 17Mbps.

The desktop which is hardwired into the router does not have this slowness.

Any clues?

My friend is always correcting my grammar over the use of 'me' vs 'I.' Her rationale sounds convincing but it still sounds weird to my ear. So I'm asking the YA community which version is correct.

Sentence 1 - She happens to share the same birthday as I.

Sentence 2 - She happens to share the same birthday as me.

But just announcing one or the other as correct isn't enough for me. I need to know why your choice is correct.

I do know that 'I' is used when it is the subject and 'me' is used when it is the object of a sentence. So the real question is whether the reference in the sentences above to oneself is the subject of a sentence or the object of a sentence.

Her rule is to add the word 'am' after 'I' or 'me' and if 'I am' sounds right then it is and if 'me am' sounds right then 'me' is the right word. Well, 'me am' NEVER sounds right. So using her 'rule' you would never use 'me' and always 'am.'

So any help would be 'helpful.'
