I've noticed she has white inside her ears and thought it was white hair but I thought I heard an announcer in the Apple Blossom say they are ear plugs. Does anyone know for sure & what are they for (if not hair of course)?

Which will prove most beneficial In the Apple Blossom: Rachael Alexandra's extended time off, not in race training since the Woodward (started training in the past month) or Zenyatta staying in training since the Breeders Cup Classic. The race will be April 9th.

I don't need books about betting. I like almost anything else, like true race track and horse stories, great breeders, old TBs, early history, current & old pedigree analysis, rare & obscure books. I prefer books you have actually have read & recommend. If it is a book someone highly recommended to you, please say so, that's OK. Please no recommendations based on reviews. I need some more books to get me through this winter!

He was a beautiful horse, a TB turf jumper. It is reported that he was the grandson of Man O War. I can't find him in the TB pedigree database. When the movie was over Elizabeth Taylor was given the horse. She also injured her back permanently in a fall from the horse in the movie. I also noticed how badly the person doing the jumps was - sitting up straight as the horse went up with their back whipping back over the horse's behind. I can't imagine it was her. She was only 12.

Mine That Bird's time was 23 & 3/5 seconds the last quarter mi. of the derby on a sloppy track. He was second to Secretariat's time of 23.0 on a dry track. I found that pretty exciting. I've been wondering what Rachael A's chances are and thought someone would know her best speed so we actually can compare the two.

I've read of good race horses being required to carry 130+ lbs against younger or less successful horses carrying much less. I thought it was to give a younger horse more of a chance but isn't a race about which horse is fastest? Why is a better horse penalized & how do they determine the weights?

I saw a horse today that was starving to death. I asked if they might sell it. I left my name & number. First I would have a vet check him out for a prognosis & what would be involved. I am no expert. I know I could probably buy a healthy horse for what this will cost. I need some good advice from some experienced horse people before I make a decision. Soon too, I don't know how much time is left.
