What are the white things in Zenyatta's ears?
I've noticed she has white inside her ears and thought it was white hair but I thought I heard an announcer in the Apple Blossom say they are ear plugs. Does anyone know for sure & what are they for (if not hair of course)?
I am hearing from the answers that you think these are ear plugs. Does anyone know for a FACT that they are? Has anyone read or heard the trainer or someone in the know say this? I'm curious.
This picture slide show of Zenyatta at the Apple Blossom is where I saw the white in her ears. It looks like cotton in the close ups. You can see them in her ears getting off of the airplane in Arkansas. You can see them when she has her bath. Could it be to keep the water out of her ears? But you can also seem them in pic #13 at the race.

Ear plugs
Some horses are upset or distracted by the noise. it is very noisy on the track with all the people screaming and the loud speakers and such so to combat this nervous energy many trainers use ear plugs of some sort on the horses.
We used to race a mare who we used cotton in her ears. So she looked like she had white air in her ears if she did not have a hood on.

They're probably ear plugs. Sometimes trainers put ear plugs in the horses' ears to help them deal with the noise on the racetrack. Some horses can get very upset and distressed when faced with the roars of a big crowd at the races. Putting ear plugs in her ears muffles the noise and may help to keep her clam so she doesn't get frightened.

Agreeing with Who Dat and who ever the other person was that said that it was Ear plugs. they are used to help mute the noise around the horse or she could be afraid of the sound of the gate. who knows what i could be for except the Jockey and the Trainer. but they are ear plugs.

Did you ever find out, if they ARE ear-plugs (which I kinda doubt, personally) I think that magical mare LOVES her crowd, every single roar of it...I mean, that dance/prance of hers brings TEARS to my eyes...!!! I will ask around, and keep checking answers here...and in the MEANTIME, look again at many pics I have of her, never noticed it, before!! LOVE that mare to death, tho...if she wears a space helmet, she is the best!!!
